I'm curious. What kinds of music do you guys see used while you adventure in the worlds of Dungeons and Dragons? I myself use a mix of Drakengard 3 and Nier. Spiced up with some Path of Exile and Ys.

One of my GMs uses the Heroes of Might and Magic IV soundtrack. It's great.

Another one, in a frostfell campaign started the night we watched Frozen, uses the Frozen soundtrack. Our Bard/War Chanter's Inspire Courage is Frozen Heart.

Soundtracks from Conan the Barbarian, any D&D crpg, a lot of Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, Mediæval Bæbes, A Minstrel's Music, various Irish stuff from people like Karen Casey and Lasairfhíona, some Dubliners, a smattering of other stuff.

Mask of the Betrayer Soundtrack.

Two Steps From Hell occasionally, for boss fights or climactic battles.

It is a mystery (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fj7Vklv5nDk).

I just leave it running. Either that or woah-oh (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EfhAFA2yFE).

I use Two Steps for boss battles, a lot of star wars music for anything Star Wars I run (no brainer there I know) and occasionally things like the shadows of the empire soundtrack for other games.
Hans Zimmer is good, Nox Arcana has some excellent stuff, and videogame soundtracks if I find ones that fit (Chronotrigger and the Golden Sun games both have excellent music [although Golden Sun is a bit cheesy at times] )

Pretty much just Two Steps from Hell. We've made a playlist called "One Step Closer" of all our favorite stuff, and we play that. Different parts of it for different things of course, some of the slower, more instrumental things might be during talking, or riding, while the more epic stuff is for fights.

my DM doesnt really use music.

but we usually as a classic thing sing the beginning of morning mood by greig every time we wake up.

when we skip travel through cities and stuff (or safe areas) we usually say/sing/utter the batman TV show time skip theme.

and when we used to role play with my friend Zak, and he always used to play a character called cedric taylor (actually cooler and more funny then most who play the same name. they all had different classes and personalities and were one of the millions of offspring and offsprings offspring of the original, and the original owes everybody in the world something, but i digress) we used to play the music from pirates of the Caribbean. since we do a lot of sea fearing campaigns.

I pull a lot of my music from various videogames (preferably those my players haven't played). Right now a lot of my music comes from Witcher 2 and Diablo 2 (dungeons and darker, grittier parts of the campaign), Morrowind (for general exploration), Medieval 2: Total War (for combat, esp if my chaos muppets decide they want to take on that order of Paladins . . .), and a couple songs from Journey (campaign intro and outro themes). There are a few pieces from Dragon Age: Origins that I can incorporate now that my DA player has dropped.

Get a few albums by Midnight Syndicate. All they are is mood/background music with no lyrics.

The even made an official Dungeons & Dragons Soundtrack.

I use all sorts of videogame music for my games, mostly. Suikoden series (I draw the most from this), Xenoblade Chronicles, Radiant Historia, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Final Fantasy series, Legend of Dragoon, and more RPGs. Occasionally use stuff from Zelda and the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors series, too.

Current DM I play under doesn't use music, previous one sometimes used atmospheric background music, not sure where from.

I use Dragon Rider for the boss fights and Friendship to the Last for post-boss-fight summations.

I often run very intense encounters...

It's usually Two Steps From Hell.

I frequently use a combination of Nox and Baldur's Gate soundtracks to help set the mood. For instance, in a tense infiltration mission, I set this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDkkgf2omLQ) on a loop in the background.

Thats funny, for tense infiltration missions I usually use this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnHmskwqCCQ) or this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxopViU98Xo).
Because thats almost always what it ends up becoming due to my players...unique talents for stealth :smalltongue:

I like using various songs by Beats Antique they have a unique sound that fits the dark/funky kind of world that I built for my players to muck about in.

I loved the music one of my previous GM's used during our combats (we were playing a PF conversion of Red Hand of Doom at the time). I complemented his choice and asked him where he was getting this music, and it turned out that he would simply search "epic music" on Youtube and pick what looked interesting. Simple but effective.

My current GM went through a phase when he would play Soulja Boy's "Crank That" at every opportunity just to mess with us. :smallmad: Fortunately he eventually stopped.

Also, anime music is awesome because it is awesome.
Since none of my players understand any languages but english it makes for a nice exotic feeling since they hear lyrics but can't understand them.
Also, a lot of the OSTs out there are just incredible for battles and such (thinking Fairy Tale has a lot of that), Madoka Magica (or anything by Kalafina).

Our other DMs at our local gathering don't use music really anymore, but I stick to things ranging from a large selection of video games, anime, and orchestrated pieces from movies, oh and instrumentals of more contemporary music, such as metal. I adamantly believe that music helps bring out the emotion in the game and in the character, for example during a fight with the main antagonist one of the players was struck down on the first blow due to a failure in his massive damage save.

After that I changed the music to Price of Freedom from Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7, to emphasis a more sad and sombre battle since the rest of the fight was a downhill battle and it was meant to emphasis a hopeless encounter. That this was their last fight and last thing to overcome, and they were losing.

I also think music helps determine the momentum of the situation in some cases.

This.
Attack on Titan, Kill La Kill, Blue Exorcist, and Darker Than Black all have soundtracks that can be converted for a campaign.
I don't remember much about the Fairy Tale soundtrack but I always felt like the group dynamic in that show was very similar to our player dynamic. Two heavily optimized characters who can kick ass in combat but generally fail at anything else, and the rest of the normal people in the group trying to keep them on a leash.

Also the "Soundtrack for a Great Adventure" album is, believe it or not, very good for adventuring.
