Kinda last minute but I want to mess with my players tonight by handing them a meaningless rhyme/riddle. Ideally one about death would be nice but it doesn't matter what it is in the end. I'd prefer it not to be a "What am I?" kind of riddle though as that's all I can seem to find over the net.

Any ideas would be wonderful.

There's one I'm fond of from The Phantom Tollbooth...

I'm as generous as can be, and as greedy as can be.

I'm as strong as can be, and as weak as can be.

I'm as brave as can be, and as cowardly as can be.

I'm as tall as can be, and as short as can be.

Naturally, he must be Can Be.

There's also one from... I believe Through the Looking Glass: "How is a raven like a writing desk?" (A raven is nothing like a writing desk/Because there is a B in "both" and an N in "neither"/Both are nevar put with the wrong end in front/Poe wrote on both)

Neither really has much to do with death, though...

You are being too hard on yourself. Anything that has to do with Poe is easily associated to death.

A classic:

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

I realised I was asking about the wrong kind of thing, tho those suggestions are not bad and I will probably use them anyway. What I am looking for is more like a rhyme that sounds like a riddle. Something like "Beware as you venture here for fools only ever look downward." but a lot more detailed. As before a death kind of theme would be nice but any is good.

If you venture forth, you should beware.
For from the abyss, they stare.
On every corner, it is death you'll find.
Be careful not to lose your mind.

If you decide to turn back.
They'll hunt you as a pack.
Turn left and they will die.
Go right and you will cry.

Death is all around.
It's everywhere you go.
Your soul's destiny is to be bound.
Come on further, and let death show.

With no beginning, nor an end.
There's only one thing on which you can depend.
