View Full Version : Are there any races that are valid as a familiar, but can also take class levels?

To clarify, the class levels don't necessarily go to the familiars themselves; I just want a kingdom composed almost entirely of wizards and their familiars, that is also mostly unispecies. Fluff-wise, the kingdom's culture considers "familiar" to be somewhere between "lab assistant" and "spourse." Mechanically, they will be normal familiars.

EDIT: Homebrew is acceptable, but not preferred.

If Improved Familiars are an option, there's tons.

Imps, Elementals, Psuedodragons, etc.

If not, then not to my knowledge. All of the familiars have Int 2.

Anything with Int higher than 3. However, with the exception of a deities ability to make anything it desires (including the PC's) to be its familiar, there is nothing allowing a familiar from having Class Levels.

A Beguiler is a Cohort only race, and I'm not sure if it's available as a familiar.

It's available as an Improved Familiar. I played a Beguiler Beguiler as a PC, it was awesome.

Nobody mentioned Tressym? It's a tiny, flying, talking cat. How do you not want to play one of those?

Note that Tressym doesn't actually have race stats, but they can be extrapolated.

Tibbits are descended from Wizard familiars.

Max Charisma, Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information etc so it's a Beguiling Beguiler Beguiler?
