Can someone tell me how this works, what type of action it takes, and how to use it? I plan on going into RKV and need help.

By RAW it's a standard action to use, so it's pretty niche in use. Ask your DM if it can be a free action instead, since that's what a lot of people believe was probably the intent. If that's the case, feel free to use it in conjunction with DMM: Quicken Spell, or to utilize multiple boosts in a single round or whatever you can think of.

By RAW, it's a standard action, as it doesn't specify which action it is. The best answer is to ask your DM. Many rule it to be a free action 1/round.

Edit: Unless the game is extremely high-OP, I'd never let a player use it as a free action unlimited times per round, as that's leads to all kinds of broken shananigans.

Is it still worth doing RKV if my DM goes off the standard action part?

Sure, RKV is a solid class. It's not as powerful as a straight cleric, though.

Can't imagine why your DM would rule it a standard action though since the example text pretty clearly intends it to be a free action.

Because he likes going by the book. That is why I suspect he won't allow it.

If he's going by the book that strictly, you might want to invest in drown healing.

Though really, strict RAW is a myth. Everything has to be interpreted to some extent.

The ToB doesnt even say. It's because of this that DI _defaults_ to a Standard Action. The sane way to handle it would be "once per round as a Free Action".

If you can't get this, DI is not really worth losing another Caster Level. Might take 5 levels of RKV anyway.

My DM ruled it as a... swift action. Idk if it is even worth taking it at this point. I think I will just take 5 levels. Are there any other decent PrCs for the cleric/crusader?

How does that even work? You spend you Swift Action and a Turn Attempt to get back the Swift Action you just spent?

Wait wait... he ruled that the ability that gives you a swift action costs a swift action to activate? Does he understand that such a reading essentially turns the class feature into "you may waste as many turn undead attempts per round as you would like"?

Edit: Vindicator'd!
