View Full Version : Pathfinder Advice for an Atomie PC?

So, my pathfinder group is planning a small side-campaign, with the main conceit being that we'll all be playing appropriately-balanced monster races (for example, a Centaur druid and a Yaun-Ti cleric). For myself, I've decided I want to try and play an Atomie, because "Dealing With Fey BS" has been a running gag in our games since day one and I love their "Like pups standing up to a full-grown cur" fluff.

I'm not sure what to pick for a class, though. Something that fits the flavour of them and synergises nicely with their strengths. I'm also not sure how to generally go about playing/balancing a diminutive, flying PC, either. Any tips or pointers?

It looks like an Atomie gets high dex and charisma. What are the racial abilities going to be? Will you be getting the 1d6 sneak attack or the spell like abilities?

I think (not positive, never messed with early entry stuff) if you get sneak attack, you could go Ninja 1/Sorcerer 3/Arcane Trickster X. You'd only lose the 1 casting level for it, only be behind on sneak attack by 1 level, and the stats and flavor definitely match up with the race. A sneaky, elusive magic user that stings ridiculously strong for its size.

For that "fighting the big folk" vibe, maybe Titan Mauler (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/barbarian/archetypes/paizo---barbarian-archetypes/titan-mauler) Barbarian or Underfoot Adept (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/core-races/halfling/underfoot-adept-monk-halfling) Monk (assuming your GM would okay the use of a halfling racial archetype)?

If some of the other class features don't suit you, you could take swap out Rage or some miscellaneous monk abilities for a different archetype package, (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/super-genius-games/adept-godling/archetypes/super-genius-games---adept-godling-archetypes/cloakfighter#TOC-Inquisitor) such as those listed in the column on the right there. I'd recommend either the Rogue's Sneak package or maybe one of the Bard's packages, just off the cuff.

Never, ever, EVER go Titan Mauler Barbarian with any character. It sucks.

As for the OP, Rogue is obvious...maybe too obvious. Also, Pathfinder kind of made them less awesome.

Sorcerer could be interesting, especially if you go gish via Polymorph or similar.

Oracle would be cool.

You could be a Bard! That'd be great! Go archer bard.

Rogue is the obvious choice, yeah, and may be the one I end up going with. Perhaps one of its archetypes - Rake, Swashbuckler and Acrobat all fit thematically.

I hadn't known about archetype packages before now, thanks for pointing them out, Griffo. I'll have to see what my GM thinks about mix-and-matching some of those. I'm something of a newbie still, so I have little experience with (or need for, TBH) hardcore minmaxing.

Happy to help! And I'm not really into minmaxing either (if I was, apparently I wouldn't suggest Titan Mauler :smallcool:), but archetype packages are a nice way to build something that suits your flavor. Pathfinder in general is very supportive of flavor-tweaking, which is one of the nice things about it.

And Rogue is a very solid choice. Archetypes aside, Rogue Talents give you a lot of fun choices to play around with.
