Enveloping Pit Use

This isn't a rules question as it applies to a specific item, but please let me know if I should move this anyway.

How exactly does an enveloping pit work without the ability to use the relic power? This is specifically for a NE Dread Necromancer, obviously for minion transport.

It works the same way as a portable hole, except that it doesn't have the clause about interacting with a bag of holding and its inner dimensions are bigger.

The relic power is an additional thing, allowing it to be opened and closed quickly and from a distance, so it can be used as a pit trap.
