I'm new to clerics, or full spellcasters in general, and the amount of spells is kinda ridiculous. I'm looking to narrow down the list to a few books that have the best/most useful spells so I'm not constantly flipping through books and I can become more familiar with the spells if there's not so many. So far I've heard the PHB and Spell Compendium are the two with the highest number of good spells. Would you recommend a third book, preferably from the Complete series, and why? Would you instead recommend a few select spells from several books to add to the list, and what makes them good?

This might be of help to you, and it has sources for the recommended spells, plus feats and build ideas and things you might like.

That's what I looked at before I even started building my cleric, and one of the reasons I'm considering only using the PHB and SC for spells.

BoED is nice because you can spontaneously cast all Sanctified Spells. Luminous Armor is a good one.

Anyway, I find it easier to remember specific spells that might be useful, like Lessor Vigor or Substitute Domain, and go with PHB for the bread and butter. But that's mainly because there isn't a handy list of good Cleric spells across all sources compiled.
