Has anybody run a game which takes place on a Dead Magic Plane? What are the main difficulties facing an adventuring party who have no access to magical, psionic or supernatural abilities? Would it be different if the party was level 1 than if they were level 20?

This applies equally to both 3.5e and Pathfinder.

No full-caster classes would be viable, that I can think of. Partial-casters are nerfed, though might be salvaged with ACFs or variants. Mundanes have the easiest time. CRs for non-casting monsters should be adjusted up, since they will still have access to exotic and powerful combat options, even without spells. CRs for monsters that would normally use SAs or Spell-likes should be cut dramatically.

Poison use becomes a more powerful option. Survivalism, rationing, and other general nitty-gritty realism becomes more of a main feature of the game. Teamwork, strategy, and good old-fashioned Running Away become necessary for combat. Travel, and the encounters that come along with it, becomes more treacherous. Natural obstacles, diseases, weather and such become actual threats rather than background flavor. Even high-level mundanes don't have answers to some decidedly not-epic situations.

It's altogether a different game. Are there any specifics you're wondering about?

Well, I assume Tome of Battle and Path of War becomes incredibly powerful.

Healing will be slow. Ridiculously slow. Forget four encounters per day, any party will be lucky to survive two per week.

Get three levels of Cleric with the feat Initiate of Mystra from PGtF. You can still cast spells in dead magic areas if you make a caster level check at a DC 20 + spell level, and you can put this on any spellcasting build. Magic items still don't function, but if you've got magic and nobody else does that probably won't even matter. Note that this only affects spells you cast, supernatural abilities such as domain powers and most class features of prestige classes still won't function, including divine feats.

If you are playing in a no magic game, getting Iron Heart Surge would be incredibly useful.
