Help building and optimizing and Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil

So this is my first chance getting to play a wizard in a new campaign that I'm in (I've played druids, a cleric, and an artificer, but never a wizard, go figure). We're starting at level one, and going all the way to 20, possibly into epic levels. I've been looking at wizard PrC's and Iot7V looked really interesting to me and I've seen it pop up every once and while on other people's builds, I'm just having a little trouble figuring out how to start the character off and how to progress. Which races would be best (Is it better to go with something like human for the extra feat? or something like sun elf and get bonus int and whatnot). Should I specialize in a school, and if so, which schools should I give up? I was thinking possibly go with a human and specialize in abjuration? also, advice on feats or items that are must haves (Not counting prereq's).

Maybe something like Abjurer3>Master Specialist 10>Iot7V 7? idk any advice would be very helpful.

Human Abjurer 3/Master Specialist 10/IotSV 7 is pretty much your standard entry, and a quite good one.

Abjurerer 3/ MS 10/ IotSFV 6/Archmage 1 make monstrously good counterspellers if you want to play that way, but it means in most fights where there is a spell caster you spend it readying actions to counter their spellcasts.

Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil (Iot7V) is an incredibly powerful PrC. Once you get levels in it, you're golden. The important thing is going to be deciding what to do to get there.

Specializing is a good idea. If you decide to do so, first ban evocation (because it's terrible) and then either enchantment or necromancy (I'd advise enchantment). You can't ban illusion, because then you lose access to shadow evocation. Focus on battlefield control- web and grease are great spells. Abjuration is a good school, and although strictly speaking conjuration and transmutation are stronger, you will always be able to use an extra abjuration spell. Beyond that, stay alive at lower levels until you can fly and end encounters with one well placed debuff.
