View Full Version : Specific Magic Items and/or Enhancement for Nets?

Hey all. I've been working on a build for a Net and Trident user and a large concern I have for it is, Net and Trident means using a net. And let's be real, nets are garbage.

Does anyone know any good magic nets or enhancements that are good on nets? Something to quicken the refolding time would be awesome.

Just carry extra nets. Don't bother with expensive magical nets.:smalltongue:

Alternatively, ghost touch might help?

To add to Snowbluff's suggestion, buy a whole case of ghost salt (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/goods-and-services/herbs-oils-other-substances#TOC-Weapon-Blanch) for 20gp a dose and treat all your nets ahead of time. It will remain active indefinitely until you successfully attack with the net.

For the cost of a single +1 ghost-touch net you can treat ~200 mundane nets instead.

This wouldn't happen to be a Net & Trident Style + Swift Hunter build, would it?

Aurorum(sp) nets can be fixed after they're broken. Riverine, if possible, just wouldn't be breakable through most means.

Spell-storing nets deliver a spell with a touch attack along with all the other netty goodness. I suppose there's strong-arm bracers for wielding larger nets to deal with larger foes.

Unseens Servants can retrieve and refold your nets for you. Collar of Perpetual Attendance (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fools/20030401c)would be one option.

You'll probably be interested in the Living Net (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=12431005&postcount=14) from Arms and Equipment Guide, since that does speed up the refolding.

Here's a couple of Old (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?309498-Ways-to-optimize-a-net)threads (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?226774-Nettin-Goin-on-Here).

In terms of specific magical nets, there's the Force Web, Gray Snare and Living Net all in Arms & Equipment Guide, and the Ghost net in the MIC.

Technically, a net is a weapon. Can you apply things like Flaming or Thundering to it?

Probably not. Or rather, you could enchant a net with those properties, but since it never does any damage, they never get added or triggered. The damage entry on the weapons table for net reads "--". If it were zero, then you could argue 0 + 1d6 = 1d6. However, an emdash usually means "not applicable".

A Crystal of Phoenix Ash Threat should work, as the crystal (not the net) does damage on the round after the weapon hits and doesn't care if the weapon did any damage.

Stygian Ice (Frostburn) might work because it does 1d6 cold damage per round of contact, and anything hit with a net is going to be in contact with it at least for a round. However, I have no idea if you can make a net out of it (same hardness/flexibility as ice, so that's probably a "no".)

I forget how it is in 3.5, but in Pathfinder at least, Flaming et al. say "on a successful hit." This implies they would do damage even if the net itself did not.

See, that's what I was thinking. And since the net hits on a touch attack rather than a normal one, that would be an easy way to sneak in elemental damage and debuff effects without spells.

In a campaign of mine, many guards carry dispelling nets. They can be pretty nasty for flying casters if they get hit.

Oh awesome! I didn't think the A&EG had any but that was a silly thing of me to assume from a few google searches. Oh god the ghost net. I saw that already and it just about broke my spirit with how bad it was.

That it is. Working with the Halfling Monk sub for Skirmish as well as being able to use Sparring Dummy of the Master. Could probably also just use the Martial Monk bonus feat to pick up Net and Trident without the pile of prereqs. Though they're not as bad as they could be I suppose.
