View Full Version : [3.5] Material Disappearing from WotC?

Hey,

I just went to go to the WotC "Consolidated Lists Archive" to search for a monster. I used this link within the last week or so and it worked fine, but tonight I get a 404 error.

Anyone else noticed any 3.x material disappearing from the site recently?

Cheers - T

Clicking on the links in the "Guide to Free D&D" in my sig, looks like a lot of 3.5 stuff has recently been purged. :smallfrown:

I guess it was inevitable, but still makes me a little sad...

This doesn't really surprise me, as some stuff had already begun disappearing over the last few years. I'm honestly a little surprised that so much has stayed available for this long. Now that 5th Edition is coming out, I'd expect more older articles to be removed.

Yep, looks like a large scale purge of older articles.

Like I said, I literally used these links within the last week or so.

SOMEBODY must have archived all that stuff, but whether or not it's made available online is anyone's guess.

It's all at archive.wizards.com now, but the rest of the url should be unchanged:
http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/dnd

I think you can find most of the stuff by replacing www in the URL with archive(example: http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/monsters).

There is archive.org.

This thread should be merged with that one (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?364374-TRAGEDY-HAS-STRUCK!-%28Possibly-%29).

Google seems to have many of the articles cached for now. If there are any D&D 3.5 articles you want to see, just google the WotC page and go to the cached (http://pad2.whstatic.com/images/thumb/2/2e/Bypass-Registration-on-Websites-using-the-Google-Cache-Step-2-Version-2.jpg/670px-Bypass-Registration-on-Websites-using-the-Google-Cache-Step-2-Version-2.jpg) version.

It really sucks when stuff like this happens and you literally had just looked it up the other day.
Thank Vecna for the Wayback Machine.

edit: Seems it still *is* in an archive site. You just can't get there through google searching atm.

Over on the "TRAGEDY HAS STRUCK (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?364374-TRAGEDY-HAS-STRUCK!-(Possibly-))" thread there is an effort to save everything on the WoTC site that was made public.

Y'know, Wizards, this really looks like you think nobody will want to play the new edition unless they have no choice in the matter. Which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in that new edition.

What do you mean, "new edition?" There is only one D&D. We've always been at war with Eastasia.
