Starcraft classic resolution issues

Hey, I'm not sure if this is really the place to ask for help about this, but i can't get the battle.net forums to let me post. I recently installed Starcraft on my new to me laptop, and it played fine, with black bars on the sides of the screen, so that the image wasn't stretched. the other day i installed the patch from the blizzard website. now the game stretches across the entire screen and looks terrible. i've also had to fiddle with the resolution a couple of times for another game since installing the patch, but before playing starcraft again, so i can't be 100% sure it's the fault of the patch. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the black bars back so my game doesn't look terrible?

In fact, i just remembered that i ran the game with no issues just after installing the patch, so i figure that the issue must be somewhere in my resolution settings.

EDIT: But this doesn't solve the problem for me, I still don't know what settings to tweak to fix this. Help please?
