A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away
It is a period of great unrest in the galaxy. In the core, the galactic government THE REPUBLIC smolders in conflict between the planet ALSAKAN and CORUSCANT over the right to claim the right as capital of the galactic senate. While open conflict has been avoided, war lurks in the shadows and the mighty REPUBLIC NAVY maintains an intense vigil among the coreward worlds.

In the Expansion Region and Outer Rim the galaxy suffers another conflict, between the warlords and kingpins seeking to establish control among the forgotten frontier. Meanwhile, remnants from the invasion and repulsion of the SITH EMPIRE remain a threat to the lives of those who struggle to get by in the unforgiving Rim.

The threats in the Outer Rim are not all so ancient, nor originating within the REPUBLIC. The mighty HUTT EMPIRE and the MANDALORIAN CRUSADERS, long forgotten by galactic civilization outside their territories have begun to expand into what was once REPUBLIC space.

On a recently acquired Hutt world a strange band of travelers and misfits are gathered by crime boss KRADDA THE HUTT for a job that promises a great payday and reward, but in this galaxy nothing is certain, and danger lurks around every corner…

You all arrive in the “Palace” of the esteemed Hutt Prince Kradda the Hutt. In actuality the building is more reminiscent of a retrofitted warehouse than a palace, but, the meager setting does not preclude the usual indulgences common among the Hutts. Twi’lek girls dance seductively throughout the cavernous meeting place and rich rugs and tapestries hang from the walls and cover the floors. Lounging in the center of the affair, heaped upon thick pillows is your potential employer, Kradda the Hutt.

Sitting beside the Hutt is a beat up and battered protocol droid torso, its design looks quite old and judging by its missing limbs the droid has seen better days. Flanking the walls immediately inside the room are four armed Rodians standing with blaster rifles hanging ready in front of them.

The great Hutt boss, or ‘Prince’, as he was introduced to you is mostly brown in color, large and voluptuous as the Hutts are known to be. Sitting beside him is an ornate hookah pipe, a single hose hangs lazily out of the corner of his mouth and his eyes appear glazed though upon your entrance he seems to take notice and sit forward some. Laying in front of the gargantuan Hutt are two Kath Hounds, each chained to an unseen palette upon which the Hutt rests.

It is apparent from the ornate hookah’s design and sigil that it signifies Kradda as a Kajidic Lorda, or Huttese clan head, an equivalent to a Prince in many ways. It is a high crime in Hutt law to claim Lorda status illegitimately.

Upon your arrival, the Zeltron who escorted you in bows to the Hutt, speaking in Huttese,

<Great master Hutt, Prince of Nal Dumma, this one now presents the mercenaries your honorable grace has requested>

After speaking the Zeltron leaves through the entrance you came through leaving you to face the Hutt.

<Greetings offworlders, welcome to Nar Kreeta, the newest jewel of the mighty Hutt Empire. As always it pleases me to meet new assets looking for work. As you were no doubt informed, the job I offer pays well, 5,000 Republic Credits or their equivalent per head that succeeds in accomplishing the task I wish completed.
That you are here expresses interest, what I offer is this, take a simple package I have in need of delivery to the planet Alsakan in the Core and deliver it to the proper recipient. Then, take whatever the client on Alsakan has and return it to me here. You are not under any circumstances to surrender this or the return package to the Republic or any other agency, nor are you to seek to discover the nature of either package for yourself. To do so will lead to immediate termination of both the deal and yourselves. Do you accept these terms? >

As the Hutt pauses between sentences the droid head and torso speaks in Galactic Basic.

“Unnecessary Flattery: You stand before the great and mighty Prince Kradda the Hutt, it is your honor and privilege to look upon his visage."

“Statement: The mighty Kradda bids you welcome and expresses platitudes at finding more organics to employ.”

“Redundant Explanation: The mighty Kradda wishes to remind those present that the job pays 5,000 Republic Credits or their equivalency per head that accept and completes the objective set forth by his eminence.”

“Explanation: The job is a simple courier job, to the planet Alsakan in Republic space and a return delivery from Alsakan. To accept will mean accepting responsibility for both package arriving securely and untampered with to both their destinations and with no interference by the Republic or another organization.”

“Query: Do you organics accept his emminence’s most kind and generous offer, or does a simple delivery pose too much of a stumbling block for your simple organic minds?”

Given the effort put into traveling here, Lemuel takes the initiative and steps forward after mumbling to his compatriots in basic, 'We didn't come all this way for nothing.'. He traces a deep bow before speaking in Huttese to the great slug, 'Good prince, I and my team humbly thank you for granting us an audience. It would be an honor to carry out your wishes and accept such a task. Are there any further stipulations for this mission, your excellency?'

Logan nudges Lemuel, whispering into his ear.
Could you ask what we are supposed to be carrying here, or to who we are going to deliver this thing to? I have a bad history with Republic officials.
The ex-SpecForce operative's face is mostly covered by a dark glass-like material. What you can see is a scowl that hasn't left Logan's face since the group had entered the place.(OOC:think Judge Dread)

The Hutt adjusts himself slightly upon his lounge, appraising the Ryn who spoke Huttese a moment before responding in kind.

<None beyond what has been stated. Shall you accept then? If so I shall have Danaxa inform you of the more pertinent details and give over care of the package to your team as courier. Be aware Ryn, you and yours will be held responsible in entirety for anything that happens on this delivery. You shall not be free from obligation to me and the Hutts until you stand before me again with the return package from Alsakan. If you fail to do so, you shall bring my ire upon your heads. And you do not desire such, I promise you little Ryn.>

The Ryn straightens up, a broad, cold smile spreads across his face as he continues in Huttese, 'I assure you, Lorda Kadda, the only thing I and mine will be responsible for is the safe and secure delivery of this package. Our prompt return with the secondary package will confirm as much. We accept this job.'

<Good, good, this is what I like to hear from those I employ. I hope your confidence matches you skill>

The Hutt shifts slightly, allowing him to press an unseen button and the Zeltron who escorted you in reappears from behind you.

"You have accepted his excellencies offer, this is good, please, follow me I shall inform you of the details, but first, I need your names and a brief list of qualifications. Previous work, skills, that sort of thing. You understand of course, it is good to know the names of those whom you employ."

As he talked the pink skinned Zeltron led the group back out the entrance hall they had entered through, but instead of heading outside, he took them down a side hall that branched off from the main corridor.

Not for the first time, Ev wished she hadn't grown up quite so cut off from the rest of the galaxy. Also that she were better at languages. While Vimreon and the Hutt spoke in what she assumed must be Hutt-speak, Ev tried hard not to stare at the bizarre slug-like monstrosity lounging at the head of the room. She'd heard they were very proud, and though he wasn't the first one she'd seen, she might not be able to keep an expression of slight revulsion from crossing her face.

Instead, she ogled one of the Twi'lek dancing girls, but had to look away on feeling a sudden rush of poignancy for the lover she left behind. Then, thankfully, the half-a-droid began to speak Basic and gave her something to look at.

With the exchange over, she realised she had been volunteered for a job without being asked. Her independent streak felt mildly put out, but being honest with herself she knew she would have said yes anyway. They needed the credits.

As the bright pink near-human led them out of the Hutt's audience chamber, she cast her eyes and her mind around for anything untoward. She wasn't sure she trusted him. She would have to think carefully about what to reveal in the "background checks".

At the same time, she whispered to Vimreon, That emblem on the Hutt's hookah: doesn't that mean he's someone important? Bit odd that he's operating out of a place like this.

You notice what you'd expect in a place like this, cameras monitor your movements, and you get the feeling there's more than just the four armed Rodians in the main room and as you enter the hall your hair stands up slightly as if you're being looked at but you don't seem to be in any danger at the moment. A typical hive of scum and villainy if ever there was one.

You sense a three lifeforms behind you as you walk down the corridor. They don't seem to be aggressive, but they also seem ready should a fight break out. Based purely on your senses you'd wager they were keeping an eye on you but not actively planning to attack you without provocation or authorization.

You sense three armed guards behind you and two walking parallel to you within the walls as you walk down the hall. They seem only to be monitoring you and don't seem to hold any aggressive intent towards you at the moment. With the awareness of the lives within the wall you notice small, inconspicuous plates along the wall, at about hip height which you would wager are in actuality murderholes through which a blaster or slugthrower could fire with ease.

A flash of anger in her eyes, Ev snaps at Logan in a harsh whisper. Call me a f***ing Jedi one more time and I'll shove a laser sword so far up your a***hole you'll be brushing your back teeth with it when I turn it on.

Still, she has to admit Logan has good instincts. With effort, she lets the anger flow away, calms her mind, and searches her feelings the way her mother and father taught her. If they were walking into a trap, the Force should give her enough warning.

If I can find a HoloNet page with plenty of pictures, that is. Short version: Jedi are treacherous, child-stealing b*****ds that left us to rot on a forsaken rock. So we don't like 'em. You know what? I have to agree that I don't like the Jedi Order, though not for the same reasons. They are too pacifistic for my tastes. Also, from what I understand, they do that so those children don't hurt themselves or others with their own power, though again, I'm not defending themselves.

"Danaxa Gres, I am sworn to his eminence the Prince Kadda and have served him for years. For now that is all you need to know," the Zeltron answered, "So a pilot-"

With the interruption of the Zeison Sha the Zeltron stood quietly by as the argument erupted between the members. He seems unperturbed by the events unfolding, no doubt owing to his aforementioned years of service to a Hutt who often hired some of the more volatile personalities in the galaxy for various jobs.

"A pilot, a 'Zesion Sha' mystic, what of you others?" Those paying attention to the surroundings notice the Zeltron seems to have stopped attempting to usher you onward and is standing in front of the control panel that would seemingly access a door in the hallway that seems to be your destination.

Success on the telepathy.

Following the Zeltron seems to be safe, at least, as safe as walking around in a Hutt hideout on a Hutt planet can be, though there is a danger present as you were already aware. This danger does not seem to be waiting in ambush, but it isn't fading.

The Zeltron continues to log the details being told into his datapad, seeming unperturbed nor suspicious of any of the information being told to him.

"And you two?" he asked, gesturing towards Kenth and Roararwa.

With introductions and names logged on his datapad the Zeltron turns and pushes the door release button prompting the door to slide up and away revealing the room beyond. The room itself is rather large, looking for all intents and purposes like a sectioned off portion of a warehouse loading dock, the only notable object is a rather large durasteel crate, approximately 2X2X2 Meters.

The Zeltron enters and gestures for you to follow him.

"This is the package you are being entrusted with," he said gesturing towards the durasteel crate, "I can upload the specifications of the shipment's parameters to your ship and prepare to have it loaded up while I brief you further on the job."

"This shipment is going to Alsakan, you will dock at the Frost Mynock docking platform and meet with a man by the name of 'Pazwa' at the local Cantina right outside the docks. Do not unload the cargo until Pazwa has given you a return package, one that will be much smaller than this one. Only then can you allow the shipment to be unloaded. You are not to open or scan either package prior to delivery, though I don't imagine that needs mentioning, and if you dump this cargo Kradda promises you shall not live to see a standard galactic week. Do not allow officials to scan the contents of the packages either, what is being transported is highly sensitive and if either delivery does not operate as intended upon arrival the blame shall rest squarely upon your shoulders."

"Do you have any questions?" the Zeltron said as simple lifting droids began to move towards the package to prepare it for loading onto the Spanner.

"Yes. Should assume that someone will be looking to take this package in particular from us? Obviously, security like that never hurts, but if we really need to be careful, delivery time might be increased." Kenth wasn't really particularly concerned, but something like this demanded a certain amount of caution. Knowing how much of their pre-mission rhetoric was simply Hutt bluster would certainly help matters.

"Any faction in particular? Not one that can be squarely identified, no. Certain factions in the Republic would certainly intervene if they knew of the delivery, but if they know and how they might choose to interfere, with commandeering the Navy or hiring mercs, that is unpredictable. Your priority is to make sure it gets there safely, if that takes longer, so be it, but neither the client nor Kradda wishes to wait overly long and Kradda is known to reward smart and fast couriers handsomely for jobs done well and done quickly."

I got a question. How do we make sure Pazwa is Pazwa? If any of these "factions within the Republic" do get inside intel, what's to stop one of theirs showing up at the spaceport, saying "Hi, I'm Pazwa" and giving us a box of moon rocks? It's not like we can open it to check it's whatever you're expecting. Can we at least have a holo to identify him by?

The Force binds together all living things together, it is an energy field touching all sentient and non-sentient beings. You sense no life within the crate. For all intents and purposes this appears to be a solid block of durasteel.

With schematics and details uploaded to the Spanner and the crate transferred into the ship's cargo bay by lifter robots the Zeltron sees you off and before long the ship you arrived in on is lifting up from the Hutt's port, preparing to move on to somewhere new.

What you want to do is up to the crew. Now that you're out of the Hutt's den perhaps you wish to discuss the job and/or look at the shipping schematics, perhaps the two Force sensitives wish to discuss their discovery, or maybe you want to discuss whether you want to attempt and pick up some more work on Nar Kreeta or head right out, or perhaps something completely different, I leave it up to you all but here's a map for plotting a course to Alsakan.

Roar stands tall in the background behind the other members of their little band. He had learned the reputation of the Hutts and was only willing to work for them only as long as necessary. His long experience hunting the lethal creatures of his homeworld made his instincts sharp and he couldn’t dismiss the Hutt from being a potential threat despite his apparent immobility. Besides this being commanded others, that is formidable in its own right.
He allows the others to do the talking for him, he was never very good with people, preferring the wilds to civilization. When prompted; he barked out his name and occupation as “scout”.

Once back on the Spanner Roar finds a seat and barks an agreement with Logan, he could use the chance to be close to his home world to send a message to his father.

Ev decided to leave the route planning to those who knew their way around the Galaxy better than she did. Education in galactography had never been a high priority on remote Yanibar. She did, however, offer one suggestion.

Whatever route we take, we should have a good excuse for being there. It could be trouble if it's obvious we are sneaking around on back roads. Maybe Vimreon could even call some contacts and ask for genuine jobs on some of the planets along the way, as a cover for taking an indirect route?

Dimensions: 8 M^3 (2X2X2 Meters)
Weight: 700 kg
Contents: <blank>
Shipper: <blank>
Destination: Alsakan
Origin: <blank>

Accompanying this "information" is a holo of Pazwa, he appears to be a gruff middle aged humanoid with light hair at his temples and a noticeable mole above his left eyebrow. No information beyond the name 'Pazwa' accompanies him.

Upon examining the manifest you note that the document is not 'locked' as is typical of such documents to prevent tampering by crew or raiders who might attempt to steal a ship's cargo and pass it along without it coming up as stolen on the holonet. It would be pretty straightforward, you think, to get someone to slice the manifest and seal it properly to make it authentic. Whether this was intended by Kradda is unclear, but it is a clear option.

Logan and Roar prepare the ship for hyperspace, plotting a course along the most direct and prominent hyperspace lane, the Pabol Slehyron, which will take the Spanner out of Hutt Space and into the border planets of the midrim Republic.

Chalacta, the database informs you, is a peaceful world built on the mystic teachings of the Temple of Illumination and its students, the Chalactan Adepts. Recent HoloNet reports indicate the Jedi have had an increased presence on the planet in the recent weeks and speculation ranges from an attempt by the Jedi to incorporate the Adepts into the Order to rumors that the Adepts have been infiltrated by Sith and the Jedi are seeking to purge the suspected Sith from the organization.

In a spot of good news for the crew of the Spanner the bulk of the Republic's Mid Rim Fleet has been called to Thustra as Mandalorian raids within that area of the Expansion region have become more notable of late. This should mean a lighter presence throughout the Mid Rim and less likelihood of being accosted by overcurious Republic inspectors.

As the hyperdrive spools up the computer informs you the estimated travel time, 7.5 Galactic Standard Days. As soon as the ship reaches lightspeed you'll have about a week on the ship to do as you please until arriving at Chalacta.

Kenth flicks through the news feed as the ship enters hyperspace, pausing briefly as he comes over a few articles relating to Chalacta. "Ah damn. You've got to be kidding me. After finishing his rather disappointing meal, the big wookiee leans back in his chair, laces his fingers behind his head and rests one leg over his knee. He lets out a long series of woofs, barks, growls and howls.

To anyone who speaks wookiee, Roar retells the tail of the Katarn he hunted as part of his Hrrtayyk ceremony. He claims that was his most honorable kill. He and his father used to hunt Trakkrrn and Factryn for their meat when he lived on Kashyyyk. Off world he has had the chance to hunt wild massifs on Geonosis and a wild Varactyl on Utapu as well.

He opens the document on his bracer computer and proceeds to lock it as per standard procedure in shipping. Taking breaks to force down some bitter caf and keep up the pace, 'Unfortunate we don't have a caf latte machine on board. On Tatooine, they have the best espresso caf with steamed blue milk. Simply outstanding quality.'

The documents look passable, intense scrutiny might reveal they've been altered, but a cursory examination would see them approved. What they now say may or may not help with any inspections...

Satisfied that Roar could keep the Spanner in hyperspace, Logan wonders the ship. Pacing from the cockpit, past the quarters, to the engines, then back to the cockpit. Logan is usually following this route when he isn't flying the ship. As he walks, he will occasionally whistle a tune or tap a quiet beat on the side of his leg. Very rarely, he will go to his private datapad and jot down a few things. His datapad is mostly unprotected, showing records of his time in the Republic. However, there is one folder marked Private. Nobody in the crew knows what is in that folder. It is very well protected.

The folder is the one that contains a record of Logan's court martial. There is also a partly written song. It is protected by Republic security codes that Logan had access to when he fled Tatooine. Also, there is another folder inside this one that contains some Republic military secrets that Logan keeps around as collateral in case he is captured. It was the last night of the hyperspace jump to Chalacta, and Ev couldn't sleep. She got up and paced the deck, barefoot to avoid waking the others, whizzing her discblade around her head. She gradually sped up its orbit, then slowed it to a crawl, then sped it up again. The telekinetic exercise calmed her.

As she walked, she passed the all-important two-metre cube they were travelling all this way to deliver. She stopped and looked at it, deep in thought. Curiosity had been building within her over the last few days, and in the dead of night with no distractions, it was almost too much.

She wasn't stupid enough to try and open it. Even if whatever was inside didn't kill them all, she would lose the trust of her shipmates. Being left stranded in the middle of nowhere was not an attractive prospect. But what if...?

She closed her eyes and focused on possible futures. She saw them laid out before her, like bright silver lines, snaking away from her and getting fuzzier until they all merged into a grey mist, only ten minutes or so from the present. Too many variables.

She found the one where she let her curiosity get the better of her and opened the crate. She wasn't skilled enough to see it clearly, but she could at least get a sense of whether immediate disaster would befall.

After a week's travel through hyperspace the ship drops out of the star streaking route and drops into real space just inside the gravity well of the planet Chalacta. The planet itself is as beautiful as any terrestrial planet unbesmirched by pollution or excessive building is, with vast oceans and landmasses covered in a swirling cloud pattern all across the marble's surface. To any seasoned space traveler it's just one of many such planets, nothing remarkable to be noted from so far above the surface, but after a week crammed in the Spanner there's no denying a certain twinge of interest in actual land.

Around the planet other ships float through the emptiness, drifting to and from the surface and the moderately sized space station orbiting the planet itself. You notice a distinct lack of Republic ships, in fact, from this vantage point you don't see any bearing the red and white coloration synonymous with the Navy, but there does appear to be a planetary defense force running some amount of security and keeping things in check. Their ships are yellow with an orange symbol that resembles a stair step pyramid.

As you move deeper into the grav well, to move out of the way for other incoming ships you are hailed, though it appears to ab an automated message.

"Greetings cargo ship [Celestial Spanner] and welcome to the world of Chalacta. If you have come for pilgrimage to the Temple of Illumination please approach docking station green of the Orbital station Enlighten. If you are here to deliver cargo, please approach docking station orange. If you are in need of fuel or other supplies please approach docking station blue."

As the metallic voice intones its instructions an image of the space station appears alongside it and the various areas highlight as mentioned.

"Addendum: If you are a representative of the Jedi Council, please hail the station directly for further assistance. Thank you."

With that the transmission cuts and you are left to decide what you wish to do.

She sounds as though she was about to call them something else, but only just managed to bite her tongue. If the authorities are expecting some bigshot with a laser sword to show up any moment, and it's urgent enough for them to put it on the METOSP, something big is going on that I don't want any part in. Quick in-and-out, I say.

As you make your final preparations the Spanner is piloted in towards Docking Station Blue, it's a rather large hangar area, with multiple landing pads stacked vertically, open to the vacuum but for a forcefield containing the atmosphere inside. As you bring her in to land you are hailed and run through the protocols and station rules, the basic laws in Republic space mostly, and are instructed to visit the Checking Booth to get temporary Station Visas so that you can venture into the market portion of the Station to procure supplies. Before the sense even fully hits you you realize someone is trying to probe your mind with the Force. You quickly begin setting up mental barriers, hopefully it's enough to keep the presence out.

Despite realizing later you manage to keep your thoughts locked away and the other Force presence fades away from your mind defeated.

Despite your alacrity in preparing your mind to defend itself the other Force using entity manages to break down your mental defenses. You hear two words come from the invading presence.

"Jedi!" "Danger!"

The words continue to echo and repeat but fade after a few moments.

Three guesses and the first two don't count as to what the cylinder is. The ID card similarly validates his membership in the Order.

:smallwink:

Ev holsters Trudy and strides towards the ramp. Let's be movin' then. The Jedi aren't going to go away matter how long we hang around. She heads out towards the docking platform and peers around cautiously, looking for threats.

I would specifically like to know about Force users with a nonzero Dark Side score, as well as Force users generally.

Other Force Users: You sense approximately 12 Force Users of varying strengths inside the greater market area connected to the bay you're docked in.

There appears to be no direct threats directly outside the ship in the bay.

As the group moves to approach the Checking Booth to receive their Station Visas in the hallway beyond the bay area the door leading further into the facility suddenly hisses open and a bedraggled looking human* male in dusky orange robes** stands in the doorway looking shocked and half crazed.

"The Jedi! They came to brainwash us all! You must run!"

The robot attending the Checking Booth makes no response but before anything more can happen a Twi'Lek dressed in simple brown and tan robes and another human* dressed similarly to the first rush to the side of the shouting man and grab onto his shoulders, attempting to grapple a hold of him.

"You need to calm down Badoo! the Jedi are here to help us!" The other human* says trying to calm the fellow.

"You must help!" The pinned man shouts at your group, "They will destroy us from within!"

Based on the skin tone, eye color, height, and facial structure this appears to be a Chalactan not a human.

Based on his clothing this man appears to be a member of the Chalactan Adepts

"Brother Jion, there's no need to get security down here, their ship is locked and Master Kion is already going to have my head for this, we don't need to make it worse than it is."

"You see, your friend likely did hear a cry for help from Brother Badoo, he had been, well, he was attempting to- Um, perhaps Brother Jion could explain it better."

At that the human spoke up, "Yes, you see Brother Badoo has long been one of our foremost instructors in mind locking techniques but his most recent attempt led him to block off parts of his mind from himself that led him to the state he is now in. We sent requests to the Jedi to aid and were making progress when Brother Badoo escaped and began running amok in the Station. "If you don't mind me asking Brother Jion, I've never heard of the Chalactan Adepts before. What are their practices?" Something about these two really got Ev on edge. If the force did not see fit to reveal what, then a little old fashioned conversation might do the trick.

Taro Bantari

Taro walked quietly with Vimreon and the Jedi. He knew when to keep his mouth shut, plus he was looking for a place that served some decent food.

At the mention of replenishing their rations, he decided to inject himself into the conversation, seeing as Vimreon was distracted by requesting the refuelling.

"So you're both Jedi?" he asked, "big on the whole pacifist thing, I guess. Like I said before, I might have started shooting. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you didn't start... shooting, or slicing, or whatever. But how do you know when it's time to observe and when it's time to act?"

"A pleasure Mr. Clu," the Twi'Lek said taking his hand, "I'm glad you were there to keep things from getting out of hand."

While 'Vimreon" dealt with the refueling station (350 credits refueling charge for a "full tank") the two men addressed the others with them.

"As your friend noted, I am not a Jedi but a Chalactan Adept, a follower of the Illuminated Way," Jion answered the young gun Taro, "We are a society built on defense of the mind and strengthening of the entire planetary populace through union in Illumination. We prefer defending to attacking, it is a stronger and more sustainable position. Your friend may have been against us, but we sensed none of the Dark Side within her and the Station will not allow her to leave with Brother Badoo."

"You see, Chalactan Adepts are all connected," the Twi'Lek Jedi explained, "They're excellent at blocking out attempts to use the Force or really any means to invade their minds but they are able to do so because their minds remain open to one another," the Twi'Lek caught Jion casting a hard stare at him.

"If you wanted to know more you'd have to talk to my Master, Kion," the Twi'Lek cut himself off quickly looking somewhat embarrassed.

Thank you Badoo. Please call me Ev; everyone who's my friend does. I'm not going to ask how you know my name...

Inside the ship, Ev shows Badoo to a seat. Would you like a cup of tea or caf?

Now, please, tell me who I rescued you from and what those accursed Jedi are doing to your people? We're meant to just be passing through for supplies on our way to urgent business elsewhere, but if there's anything I can do to help while we're here...

To improve his attitude, if it's not already at Helpful.
[roll0]

"Do you have any Gav? No, I don't suppose you do Ev, no matter."

Badoo took the seat offered to him, folding his legs up and sitting cross legged.

"Jedi. Sent from the Core to break the Adepts. Disrupt the Illumination. I tried to fight them, keep them out of the Illumination. Keep them from sullying it. I haven't stopped them yet, only delayed them. If they break into this mind," he pointed at his own head, "They'll figure it all out and they'll come in and take us all with them. I need help. The Jedi must be stopped. You know this as well, no?"

Ugh, typical Jedi meddling. I'm afraid I know very little about the Adepts of this planet, but I assure you I'm no friend of the Jedi and their interfering ways. I don't know if you'll have heard of the Zeison Sha? Ev tells Badoo enough of her people's history to understand her opinion of the Jedi.

What have the Jedi been doing here, exactly? Why are they focusing on this planet, so far from the Core – have they run out of Force traditions to assimilate closer to home? And, if it's not impertinent to ask, why is your own mind in particular so important to them?

Looking for signs of either deception or delusion. While Ev is predisposed to believe any bad word spoken about the Jedi, she can't help noticing this guy seems a few Ugnaughts short of a Tibanna gas mine. No doubt this is the Jedi's fault for treating him so cruelly...

"Jedi schutta want to link the Adepts to themselves. They want our techniques and our secrets. They want me because I'm keeping them out. They want me gone or turned. Jedi! Jedi! Jedi!" Badoo slammed his hands on his knees with each exclamation, "I don't want to speak of the Jedi anymore Ev. Let us leave this Station. We shall go to the planet, visit the Temple. Woo! Our first nat 20!

Badoo is definitely not "all there" that's pretty clear and he definitely seems somewhat delusional, however he doesn't seem to be attempting to lie or deceive you and seems to in all honesty believe what he's saying. How accurate it is, or how close to the truth, impossible to say for sure, but something does strike you as ringing truthful and you do wonder why he would be so overtly concerned with the Jedi if they were truly trying to help him.

"We of the Brotherhood do not often venture out into the greater Station," Jion said, "But I hear good things regarding a 'Magranma Aktah', it is a Chalactan restaurant, true cooked with fresh ingredients from the surface. I could take you and your friends there if you wish?"

"We were once many, shrouded in darkness" Badoo begins almost in a chant that speaks of an ingrained story, "Then First Brother came and brought the light. The light bound us all together, touched every mind, some stronger than others, some weaker, but it missed no man, woman, or child with its magnificence. All were bound in the soft glow and there was peace, but then, a shadow fell upon the land. The black sky rained down heavy with those still cowering in the dark and First Brother steeled the light, binding us together tighter still and pushing back the shadows and now we live as the First taught us. We abide His laws and follow His teachings. But these Jedi!"

Badoo is definitely a bit disturbed and hard to follow, but he doesn't seem at all forgetful. I'll ask him about this "memory locking" stuff but I'm inclined to take it with a pinch of salt.

Listen, Badoo wants to go down to the surface to see someone called "The Illuminated One". Do you think we could give him a lift? It's not like we need the Jedi to buy us fuel, right? I know we should really be getting a move on, but I don't feel comfortable just handing someone back to captivity. He says they're trying to break into his mind and steal the secrets and techniques of his order. Do you really want to subject him to that?

All that aside, I'm not too happy about accepting anything from a Jedi. Surely we already had enough credits to get us to Alsakan?

Haven't you been listening? The Jedi that was trying to kidnap Badoo has had our ship locked down here until we give him back. As though he were some kind of fugitive criminal, Ev spat in disgust. Vimreon said something about security crawling all over us as well. And you know we don't want that. Ev glanced nervously towards where their cargo was stowed. I figure the only way out is if he makes a break for it. Once they know he's not here, they'll have no reason to hold us any more, or to poke around in the hold.

Okay... The Jedi wanted us to send Badoo back to him, right? So what if we give him instructions to go back to them but he ignores us? We'll have fulfilled our part of the deal and we could leave but he is still a free man.

Until they catch up with him. And I doubt they'll see us as having fulfilled "our part of the deal", but at least if they know he's not here they'll have no reason to detain or search us. That's why I want to know if he can get straight into a shuttle and be off before they realise it.

"Yes, if the Jedi and my Brothers aren't there I can reach a shuttle. Badoo has access codes to reach the planet, come along!" Badoo grabs Ev and Logan's sleeves, seeming to have forgotten neither planned to go with him.

Taro Bantari

"Yeah, of course we're coming with him," Taro said, stepping up.

The situation had gone from screwed to very interesting, as Kenth pulled a fast one on the Jedi. Now the young gun was interested to see where he was going with all this.

Jion looked displeased, "Very well."

Your group is led through the marketplace of the stations, Section Blue, and to a securely locked turbolift. Brother Jion inputs a code* into the console and the doors unlock and slide open allowing you all to cram into the small space. With the Wookie it's a tight fit but you all manage.

After a ride that likely seemed longer than it actually was the lift stops and opens onto a different part of the station. This section is much different than the public area, lit with soft orange lights, tapestries hang on the walls, their fringe scraping the magnificent rugs that cover the durasteel flooring. In all it seems more homelike than the rest of the station and more befitting of a luxury liner or private cruiser than your stock standard space station.

Silently Jion, with Tar'ko trailing a step behind, leads you down the corridor and to an archway that opens to a mostly empty room. Sitting cross legged on the floor is a Bothan dressed in simple brown robes and seemingly meditating, his eyes closed as you enter the room.

"Tar'ko, Brother Jion, where is Badoo? Who have you brought here instead?" the Bothan asked, not moving but his mouth, his eyes remaining closed. **

"Master Kion. It is a pleasure." kenth sinks easily into a cross-legged sitting position before the Jedi. "I am Kenth Daruss. Technically I am still a Padawan, but I lost my master almost two years ago in the Outer Rim. When I was able to regain contact with the Temple, I was given some measure of autonomy, under the guarantee that I would continue to carry out my duties in the rim."

Kenth pauses briefly before continuing. "A member of the crew I am traveling with may have caused and incident with your apprentice and Badoo. She has some ideological differences with the Jedi, and is disinclined to trust our efforts, however well meaning. Unfortunately, Badoo is with her now. If I can be given some information about what precisely is going on here, I might be able to insure that Badoo is returned to the Enclaves care, and she leaves the system without causing any more trouble. That may sound like black mail, but I suspect that unless I can take these steps, she will attempt to aid in Badoo's escape. In return, I am willing to offer my services now or later, if there is some matter I can help with. I cannot guarantee the assistance of my companions, but that may be possible as well."

I am purposefully failing the Use the Force check. No need to give him a reason to disbelieve me.

I suppose I should roll Persuasion for this, given my woeful modifier, I'd prefer to just have an IC discussion if that works.

RPing it out is an option for a potentially significant bonus to the roll but since rolls have to made for other skills I will require a roll. Although having their ship locked down was not good and forced them deeper into the situation than he would like.

What if they hadn't spotted Badoo running for the planet? What if they decided to search our ship looking for him? We could have gotten locked up for a very long time."

He leaned against the wall and crossed his arms.

"Luckily for us, it all worked out, and I got a decent meal out of it," he continued, "so can we just get the job done... please? The sooner we get that thing out of our hold and get paid, the better."

I did bring us into it by stopping those Adepts. I may or may not be partially responsible for that. But as Ev said, it looked like some sort of kidnapping.

"It's great to be heroic and all, but it wasn't just your life and freedom on the line," Taro replied, "when we're on a job, it's all of us on the line."

And everyone who depends on us.

"Look, I don't want to make a big thing about it," he said.

Too late

"And if it came down to fighting, Jedi or not, I woulda blown their heads off, or tried, because we're a team," he said, "All I'm saying is the job should be the top priority. Next time, think twice before you put the job, and the rest of us, at risk."

Noted, I'll clear that stuff with the crew first.

The ryn strokes his short beard as he listens to the crew talk, or shout at each other, rather. Conversation turns to personal ethics against mission objective and the general good of the crew.

Taro seems to be a good man
Against all I've thought thus far, his duty to his job, and undoubtedly his paycheck, is solid

Lemuel nods in approval, 'Taro is right. The job is the first priority. Anything that compromises that, compromises all of us and assuredly lands a bounty on all of our heads. Please think of this in the future, and allow cooler heads to prevail.'

Agreed, but if someone's life is on the line one of us may have to act immediately and not be able to check.

Lemuel looks at Logan and gives no emotion but a quick flick of his tail. 'To save one of the crew, if necessary. We don't need to get involved in politics of worlds we are not part of.'

Logan thinks on this and his smile thins, considering the weight of the statement.

The Celestial Spanner lifts free from the docking bay, exiting the Chalactan Station fueled and stocked up on oxygen and food supplies to last a week. Moving to the edge of the Chalactan Grav Well and using the updated coordinates and lane information transmitted by Chalacta the Spanner makes a succesful jump into hyperspace on its way to the next stopover planet of Randon. The computer estimates a day and a half journey time, attributed to all manner of celestial happenings lining up just right for this specific jump. Perhaps the hours on Chalacta were ultimately beneficial to the journey.

****Interim Day and a Half****

The Spanner dropsout of hyperspace approximately 34 hours after leaving Chalacta and immediately proximity alerts ping on the computer. Readouts scroll quickly by and out the viewport a small but growing space battle can be seen erupting in the void between the Spanner and the industrial planet of Randon.

It's hard to get an exact handle on the situation but Republic Navy white-red ships seem to be swarming a small fleet of unmarked cargo ships, though the laser fire returning from the cargo ships suggests more advance capabilities than a stock freighter. The battle is taking place only a few hundred yards ahead and above the Spanner and the computer indicates more ships are swarming to the attack.

Though closed the open broadcast system blinks with a message being transmitted on all frequencies.

Lemuel looks out the viewport at the scene in front of the Spanner. Upon seeing an indication of a transmission being broadcast, he looks about the cabin with an eyebrow lifted. Driven more by his curiosity and less by what the crew wishes, he plays the broadcasted transmission.
