Wu Jen works wonders with Jade Phoenix Mage. If you can get 9th-level spells, you can use Transcend Mortality (http://dndtools.eu/spells/complete-mage--58/transcend-mortality--885/), then the JPM's emerald immolation ability to kill yourself before the spell does, allowing you to use the spell effectively for free. (Because normally it kills you.)

Pick up Elemental Mastery as 6th level feat, you can now cast Spontaneously and Prepared, qualifying for UM, which stacks for a CL of 24 without other buffs. Arcane Strike lets you burn spell slots for boosts to damage - but this isn't for you, it's for your clones from Body Outside Body. Catalogues of Enlightenment (War Domain) for Divine Power giving your clones full BAB which lets them Arcane Strike. Archmage lets the clones (who cannot cast) use chosen spell as an SLA - such as Wish, or some other 9th level spell, like say Transcend Mortality. Arcane Disciple (Luck) in conjunction with Craft Contingent spell for Contingent Miracles to Revivify you.

I like this build, but maybe trying to fit in another Archmage level so that your clones have Body Outside Body as an SLA as well as Transcend Mortality.

Magical Training (Sorcerer) should do that for you, letting you do Wu Jen 5/UM 10/Incantatrix 3/Archmage 2. And pick up Miracle from Arcane Disciple (Luck). It turns 1 day spell into a 2/day SLA, as no XP cost, and can use Level 7 spells (Giant Size, Body Outside Body), as well as Cleric. Can't ban Evocation though.

Shtick starts working as early as level 3 and is at full swing at level 9. You need some Empowered Spellshards keyed to the Fire Shuriken spell and some Lesser Metamagic Rods of Maximize. Cast Empowered (via spellshard) Maximized (via rod) Blistering Fell Drain Fire Shuriken in downtime, for a set of weapons that deal 24+0.5*(3d6)+Str fire damage and a negative level on impact. Then you throw them in combat. As you increase in power, you can Heighten the shuriken, dealing an additional 3 damage via Blistering Spell. Usually Blistering Spell only adds 2 per spell level, but the skuriken are Empowered. Note that 24+0.5*(3d6)+Str fire damage is for an unheightened shuriken.

Also get a rod of Energy Substitution, because not everything dies when you hit it with fire. You won't be able to Maximize, but weaker attacks are better than useless attacks.

For a more high-powered version at very high levels, try finagling in a level of Wizard, the Tattoo Focus feat, and the Red Wizard PrC into those later levels. You could then Heighten your shuriken to level 20, for an extra +60 damage.

Wu Jen lacks many of the necessary buffs to be a proper gish, particularly (Draconic) Polymorph and Wraithstrike. Buffs are the reason a gish even works at all, if you give a character spellcasting and BAB but none of the right buffs, it's not a gish, it's just a spellcaster with BAB.

Wu Jen lacks many of the necessary buffs to be a proper gish, particularly (Draconic) Polymorph and Wraithstrike. Buffs are the reason a gish even works at all, if you give a character spellcasting and BAB but none of the right buffs, it's not a gish, it's just a spellcaster with BAB.

There is a lot of buffs in Wu Jen spell list, some even uniqe (and awesome) like Giant Size. Look it up :)

Polymorph is, in fact, on their list (opening the door to Minor Shapeshift as well), and Lightning Blade can do the Power-Attack-touch-attack thing at the same level as Wraithstrike. They also have access to Greater Luminous Armor and several of the Sorcerer/Wizard gish spells in core--just going off my Gish Handbook list, there's Haste, Greater Invisibility, and Greater Magic Weapon among the core spells I bothered to check.
