Trying to make an ettercap druid npc. I want flavor over power in the spells, so I'm looking for as many creepy-crawly spells as possible, everything from butterflies to web variants to good old swarms. The more unexpected the better. Any suggestions?

Refluff. This will already solve most of the spells.

Also, Eberron has some neat druid support (Child of Winter feat line). You are probably losing power by taking them, but then you said you didn't care about that a lot. And you're still a druid.

Verdant Lord PrC (Master of the Wild) and it's bastard stepson Vermin Lord (Book of Vile Darkness) would be good starting points

I'd probably start with Spell Thematics (PGtF). This gives you an excuse to throw a few headscrews at the PCs, and makes using Spellcraft to identify the spell slightly tougher.

As far as specific spells:

Lesser Spider Form (DotU, Sor/Wiz 1). Polymorph into a medium fiendish spider. Not all that impressive, but combine it with Skull Talisman (Frostburn) or Glyph Seal (Magic Item Compendium) and you could turn a PC into a spider, which could be kinda interesting for several rounds.

Spider Hand (BoVD, Clr/Dru 1). Creepy, and also the easiest way to allow a druid to get their hands on a web-like effect (pun intended). Also a good way to spy on the PCs for the first few encounters without forcing the druid to show his hand too early (I can stop at any time... really.) However, ettercaps already have a Web (Ex) attack.

Blinding Spittle (Spell Compendium, Dru 2). Spiders don't really spit acid, but refluff this as Blinding Silk-Spit (that... uh... also burns like acid, maybe?), and it's still a fantastic debuff spell. Might be kinda d-baggish to use it against PCs, but it doesn't do any damage or kill them directly, so smart PCs will of course withdra-- okay, no, they won't do that, but it will probably seriously freak them out the first time they get hit with it (no save).

Kelpstrand (Spell Compendium, Dru 2). Refluff as "Silkstrand". Swap "within 300 feet of the ocean shore" to "within 300 feet of a web".

Spider Legs (BoVD, Clr 2). Not quite as good as spider climb (shorter duration, slower climb speed), but it leaves both hands free for weapons/spellcasting. More importantly, it does not require a live spider as a material component. Not technically available to druids, but I can't imagine anyone would complain if you swapped this into the Druid spell list.

Tojanida Sight (Stormwrack, Dru 2). Refluff as "Spider Sight".

Arms of Plenty (Lords of Darkness, Sor/Wiz 3). This spell isn't as good as girallon's blessing (shorter duration), but it can be stacked with girallon's blessing to give a creature six claw attacks. Not on the Druid list, but if girallon's blessing is already there, why can't this one be as well?

Girallon's Blessing (Spell Compendium, Clr/Dru/Sor/Wiz 3). Updated from Savage Species, easier to use. Refluff as "Arachne's Blessing".

Spider Form (DotU, Sor/Wiz 3). Still not that impressive, but could allow the caster to blend in with a bunch of other large fiendish spiders.

Greater Spider Form (DotU, Sor/Wiz 5). Cold/fire resistance 10 finally kicks in, but DR and other abilities are still weak for a 5th level spell. Up against a 9th level caster, this isn't a strong spell, but on a lower-level druid who has access to this spell via a scroll or spell-storing item, and it could make for an interesting boss battle.

Enveloping Cocoon (Spell Compendium, Dru 6). Treehugger version of forcecage, although this only works if the target fails a Ref save. If it does work, you can follow up the next round with infestation of maggots and the victim isn't allowed a saving throw.

While you're perusing Drow of the Underdark, check out "Sudden Swarm" on page 63. This is a lesser invocation for Warlocks, but consider kitbashing some Warlock/Eldritch Disciple levels into a Druid build just to get this one invocation: if you kill anything with your invocations, a swarm of spiders bursts out of the corpse and fights under your command. Too bad you can only control one swarm at a time... but still, should be good for a "Depends" moment or two.

Is Pathfinder allowed? Two nice feats for this are Vermin Heart (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/vermin-heart) (wild empathy on vermin, can target vermin with "animal" spells) and Coaxing Spell (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/metamagic-feats/coaxing-spell-metamagic) (metamagic, can affect vermin with mind-affecting spells.)
