Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 511 through 520.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on August 14th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, :vaarsuvius: 505 ...Or We Will All Stick Separately (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0505.html) sat down and hashed out its differences with the other contestants like reasonable, mature, adults. This was so shocking to see that the judges simply had to hand the award to it. Pity that they were able to nip this problem in the bud though. Might have made for some interesting drama down the road had they let it fester.

...

Eh, probably not. Best to get it out of the way now, right? :smallwink:

Now that this batch of entrants have solved their budding angst forever and ever, it's now time to see how our other entrants are doing. So sit back, crack open whatever refreshing beverage of choice one might like, and stare into the scrying pool so we can decide which of the following strips deserves to move on in.....

.THE STICK AWARDS II: 0511 - 0520

More introductory strips. Oh well, it should start getting good soon. In this round, I like the ending of 518 and I also like Tsukiko talking with her wights, but I think I like the joke in #515 the best.

Not much to choose from. Throwing a cat in someone's face looks fun, though, so 520

The series of small jokes in 511 make this easy. "I'm pretty sure we should be more worried about who gave them weapons." "Resisting someone OTHER than me?!?!"

Looks like I'll be voting for 514 Elan Would Be So Proud, this time 'round.

Elan WOULD be so proud.

Tempted to vote #518 simply because of the recent SUPER CONTROVERSIAL strip, but I do enjoy angry housecats being thrown at soft and defenceless faces.

For once I'm voting for a Belkar comic. 520 is just funny. Although 513 was close, because I like antagonists being competent.

While 520 is excellent, I'm going with 511: Guerillas in Their Midst. Great humor AND great world-building in one strip? Beats nine out of ten action strips in my book. And the other nine out of ten are the ones in this round, soooo...

These are of fairly even quality. I like Tsukiko knocking Haley out of the panel in 518.

I also like the fact that the phrase "bird-hussy" is hyphenated.

Killer Angel

I think I'll go for 518.
But 512 deserves an honorable mention, for the trick with Dancing Lights.

520 for sure.

520 - The Power of Immediate Gratification

Mr. Scruffy and Belkar are just a too awesome combination :smallcool:

Nothing really stands out. 520 gets my vote. He totally premeditated!

511, though 520 was a close second.

Because Soft and Unprotected Faces need angry housecats.

I think I'll go with 511, but mainly cause this isn't a very good individual bunch, I feel.

Hmm, fairly uniform batch (not that any of them are bad, its just that none really stick out). 511 has some decent dialogue, so I guess I'll go with that.

This batch isn't as strong as the last few. However, I really like 520, and none of the others are great. Easy.

#517 for the first panel gag. 520 is probably the overall best, but it looks like that already has it in the bag.

520 looks best. 518 gets credit for any tiebreak that might happen.

I'll go with :belkar: - 520 is it.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s160/Tolkien_Freak/hobgob.gif: I'm pretty sure we should be more worried about who gave them weapons.

It's these little exchanges which make a good deal of OotS charm for me. #511.

I, uh, hmm. I vote for 520 I guess.

518 for the non-traditional panel layout :smallcool:

518 for setting up the celia summon later and a nice little action piece with the non-core spell.

520. Gotta love Mr. Scruffy.

There's a lot of stuff to like here, even if none of the strips are outstanding classics. I'll go for 511, because surely you have to vote for things which remind you of Monty Python films? Also I like the Hobgoblin banter. Honourable mentions for Mr. Scruffy in 520 and Haley being blasted out of the page in 518.

Another set of introductory strips, but I like these better than the sea ones overall. Plus I'm a sucker for resistance stories. All in all, a lot of good ones that make it hard to choose. But I think I will go for 511. Nice juxtaposition of 'making fun of the newbie' along with showing Haley finding out that Roy sighed all the time for a very good reason.

And with that....

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

:belkar: 520 The Power of Immediate Gratification (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0520.html) is the winner this week. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
