can't seem to find the rules for outdoor lighting in various scenarios, such as full moon in the open plains, vs new moon in the middle of the forest (basically pitch black so that's easy but its an example) as well as its interactions with low-light vision. Could even throw in extra things like meteor showers, cloud cover, and star light.

Is there something on this in black and white anywhere? Book and page number would be great, thanks for the help.

There is the control light power: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/controlLight.htm which has a bit about the effect of light levels on visual acuity. Otherwise I think it's mainly listed with each race as to whether they have low light vision or dark vision and how far it works out to.

3.5 or Pathfinder? This is one of the rules that changed drastically between editions so it's important, particularly once you put magical darkness in the mix.

My advice though is that you use the Pathfinder lighting rules regardless - they don't have silliness like casting a Darkness spell actually making the room brighter.

Either, I just need locations for both.

3.5: Vision and Light (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/exploration.htm#visionAndLight)

There are 3 categories: bright light, shadowy illumination, and darkness. Full moon isn't explicitly stated (that I could find, anyway) but most likely counts as the middle one.

Pathfinder: Vision and Light (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/vision-and-light)

There are 5 categories: bright light, normal light, dim light, darkness, supernatural darkness.

Full moon/bright startlight = dim light
No moon/cloudy night = darkness

There's more differences (particularly related to magic) but I'll hold off and see if this helps.
