The world we will be playing in is called Nara. It is home to a variety of races and kingdoms, all of which center around a vast hole in the earth, which was created by an asteroid millenia ago. The hole is considered evil, and in general, no one ever goes near it, save for four massive towers built in the name of the four most worshiped gods of good: Pelor, Avandra, Bahamut, and Moradin. Each of these towers were built before memory to guard Nara from the crater, which no one is allowed to enter (and quite frankly, no one wants to). The religions of these four gods are widely respected by most of the populous, and each of the towers boasts three Judges. These Judges answer to no earthly beings, and travel the world to pass their verdict on those they see fit to judge in the name of their gods.

Our adventure starts in the southeastern portion of the continent, far away from the bottomless crater...

Your characters will be starting in the village of Mudhaven. Mudhaven is essentially a slum outside the gates of a great city, named Purea. Purea is one of the free six city-states of the Halfharthen Valley, which lies between two great rivers, the Mhun, and the Thrun. Purea is situated directly on the banks of the western river, the Mhun. These six city-states are known for their wealth and trade, as the rivers allow travel to the Southern Sea. Most races and professions are common within the Halfhearthen Valley, since these cities are hubs for the nearby trade routes.

In past history, the six city-states of the Halfharthen Valley had lived relatively in peace, a peace strengthened by a treaty which long held the city-states together. The treaty ensured that if one city was attacked, the others would come to its aid. This treaty was essential for defense, as two great nations lie on either side of the valley, poised to snatch a rich prize. To the west, past the Mhun river, and closest to Purea, lies the Empire of the Three. To the east, over the Thrun river, lies the Kingdom of Fina.

Within the past decade, Purea began to weaken from raids from the goblin tribes of the Usan Mountains, just north of Purea's territory. As the raids were quick and unexpected, the six cities could not send a traditional army to defend against the excursions. Believing that the goblins were being bribed by the Empire, or the Kingdom of Fina, Purea's Lord Protectorate, sent word to the Four Towers, in hopes that they would send a Judge. For some reason, no such help came. Seeing that Purea was no longer able to defend itself, the other six city-states decided to broker a new treaty. However, this treaty would only include five. Without the protection from its old allies, Purea was soon a warzone between the Empire of the Three and the Kingdom of Fina. Ten long years past and, defeated, the Kingdom of Fina withdrew its claim over Purea, leaving the city to the Empire.

Nowadays, the occupation of the Empire is in full swing. Few people are allowed into or out of the city, thus several makeshift communities have appeared around the walls, including Mudhaven. The goblin raids have stopped, but the oppression of the occupiers has forced the city into poverty. Disease, famine, and despair are widespread. But, where such sadness exists, there is opportunity. Your characters are seizing on this opportunity. Missionaries from the great sects of the Gods have come to aid the people. Mercenaries have come to make coin fighting the remaining goblin hideouts. Performers and traders have come to exploit and weasel money out of the unfortunate. Even some naturalists have come to help with the poor harvests. You find yourself in Mudhaven…

The Dragonborn Clans north of Usan Mountains (Xevar):
North of the Usan Mountains lie a long, thin stretch of foothills occupied by dragonborn clans. These Kord worshippers have long been a strong front, constantly in battle with the goblins from the Usan. In recent history, the region has seen relative peace, with the goblins focusing on their southern neighbors, the city-state of Puria.
Xevar’s Background (Dragonborn Paladin):
His clan is curious about the tentative calm of the goblins to the south, so Xevar takes it upon himself to investigate. He quickly discovers that the goblins aren't being docile at all, but they have just turned their attentions elsewhere. With the desire to prove his worth, young Xevar travels to Puria to lend his sword against the goblin onslaught.

The ever wandering Shifters (Vorrg):
The shifter community has long wandered the roads of Nara. Selling their wares to local communities, they travel from village to village. After they are done collecting gold for their herbs and natural remedies, they are most often no longer welcome in one place. Seen as nomads, they have fierce warriors to protect their caravans as they move about. It is not uncommon to see an individual shifter break off from the trade business and apply their adventuring experience elsewhere. Many mercenary groups would pay well for a shifter guide, shaman, druid, or warden.
Vorrg’s Background (Wild Warden Longtooth Shifter):
Background not given.

The Playful Gnomes (Raz and Ella):
While it is not known during current times where the gnomes came from, they have spread to every corner of the continent. Their numbers are few, but most communities have at least seen a gnome once in their life. Playful and energetic, these small humanoids enjoy laughter, harmless trickery (most of the time harmless), and sometimes adventure.
Raz’s Background (Psion):
Background not given.
Ella’s Background (Bard):
Background not given.

Minotaur (Cornua):
The minotaur’s once held vast areas of plains in the central areas of the continent. But in history past these proud beings have been conquered several times and scattered across the continent. Most take up arms as mercenaries, hard laborers, or guards, their size a valuable addition to any party. Occasional tribes of minotaur’s still exist, striving for a simple existence within plain and hill areas.
Cornua’s Background (Warlord):
Background not given.

The Elves of the isle of Pesp (Hawthorn):
Nestled in the forests of the isle of Pesp lies the newly formed elven kingdom of Nelynyth (pronounce Nelineth). In times past, the elves of Nelynyth had a great kingdom north of the Usan Mountains within what is now known as the Darkenwood. As a strange sickness plagued the once lithe forest dwellers of Darkenwood, their queen decided to flee the forest to the nearby Island of Pesp. A couple thousands of years later, the current elven generations that live in the forest of the northern part of the island are known for their ship building skills and abilities to craft fine wood work of any kind. With an ocean separating the elves from their old homeland, the strange sickness that befell the Darkenwood could not seem to pass the waters of the straights and hasn't afflicted the elves of Nelynyth in current history.
Hawthorn’s Background (Ranger):
Between practical jokes with his friends on the village elders and nicking elfish puddings from the local inn the young elf spent most of his time in the woods hunting game and practicing with his bow. His immature exploits earned himself the nickname of Thorn, often referred to as "The Thorn”, from the village as in general he was viewed as a real thorn in the backside. He was sent with a group of men to the mainland to trade for needed supplies but was "forgotten" on the continent. Home being a long swim away and the world to be seen he soon fell in with a group of bandits working as their scout and sneak thief grabbing bits of info and trade caravan plans. This lead Thorn and the bandits south to where the goblin raids and war meant opportunity for sell swords and swindles.

Chapter 0 (The Tutorial): The Kobold Bandits

The sound of the morning bell cut through the thick fog of Mudhaven like a butter knife, if the small slum would have had any butter available. Its residents hadn’t seen such luxuries since the Empire of Three took their sovereign city, Purea, in the past year. Nestled against the border of the once free city, temporary shacks cling to the stone walls like a child to its mother. The refugees, and other adventurers trapped in this village endure the ever present aroma of fresh dung, and unbathed denizens. A sense of despair and loss hang over the place. This morning, however, as signified by the bell, there would be an announcement from the local Empire garrison commander. This could mean jobs, almsgivings, or a possible chance to enter the nearby city.

As the village folk shuffled their way to the center of the hovels, the stalwart soldiers watched carefully for thieves. Although their main focus was on keeping the Kingdom of Fina out of the city, their company was assigned to guard this village and maintain order until they were shipped out; a job that most of the soldiers thought was beneath them.
Captain Thresh was under the same opinion as his men. During the war he led his company to several honorable victories against the dragonborn from the Kingdom of Fina. Now he was standing in a glorified pile of ****, wishing he had a nose plug. He grabbed a hold of Big Shirley’s ass for a moment. The ugly dwarf prostitute turned and smiled at him. Captain Thresh had a mental shrug, “better than nothing I suppose.”

Thresh watched the villagers gather, and noted the strong looking mercenaries that had appeared. No doubt they were here because they couldn’t get into the city. Hopefully none of them would cause trouble. He cleared his throat.
“For those of you who are experienced mercenaries,” he said, as an audible sigh from a majority of the people gathered, “we are looking for some able bodied help for a particular…problem. Those interested should meet in the soldier’s barracks in a single file line after this assembly.”

Thresh began to walk away, and then stopped abruptly. He knew he forgot something, “also, the food shipments have been delayed for three weeks. You will have to get your handouts elsewhere. Although, as new citizens of the Empire, I assure you Empire and Senate care deeply about your wellbeing.”

The soldier’s barracks was a simple structure. Captain Thresh sat at a wooden table across from the entrance with Big Shirley on his lap. The line of mercenaries stretched clear out the door. Mostly unimpressed by the group, Thresh picked out five able bodied adventurers that might do the trick. But in all honesty, it would be no hair off his back.
As he dismissed the rest of the rejected people, he turned towards the five standing before him. Two gnomes, a female and male, which were unlikely good fighters, but undoubtedly had some kind of tricks up their sleeves, a hulking minotaur which looked like he had been in a couple fights before, and a shifter who Thresh didn’t really want to look at for too long. There was also a dragonborn Paladin, who, to be honest, Thresh had only chosen to get out of the village, given the dragonborn’s race and disposition towards justice.

Captain Thresh cleared his throat, “I will be brief, as my time is rather precious. Kobold’s have been raiding our supply lines along the main road for almost a fortnight now. I’m not sure why, but the little buggers have stopped almost all shipments into the village, and quite frankly, I want my ale. I will pay you all a good bit if you could show me proof that you have taken care of the situation.”

“My men are a little busy at the moment, so we are not able to look after the situation ourselves,” Thresh said. A loud snore came from the nearby soldier’s bunk.

Unfazed, Thresh continued, “I’ll give you roughly three days’ time to get back here, with proof of dead kobolds, or else I will assume the little lizards have killed you. Good luck, I believe that is what I am supposed to say.”
With that, Thresh unceremoniously left the group behind. Big Shirley was in tow, giggling in her deep dwarf laugh, as Captain Thresh picked her up swiftly and carried her out of the building.

The group stared blankly at each other for a few moments, deciding what course of action would be best. It was decided to head down the main road, and wait to be ambushed by the little buggers. If the kobolds were being so aggressive as to attack standard soldier caravans, they would most likely take the bait of a ragtag group walking down the road.
So the group set off down a path that of which they did not know the end.

The party began to engage in small talk, and learned each other’s names. The two gnomes, who did not actually know each other despite the group’s belief, were Ella, the bard, and Raz, the Psion. The minotaur was a skilled warlord named Cornua Bubula, while the shifter was a Warden named Vorrg. The proud dragonborn was a Paladin named Xevar. As they walked down the road, Ella picked up a tune, enticing unwise kobolds to attack them.

It did not take long for the first band of kobolds to attack them, but the kobolds fell like sheep to the slaughter, and the party continued down the road.

The adventurers took notice of a strange dirt patch in the ground in front of them. Confident that it was a trap, they skirted the edges of it only to hear a shrill hiss as kobolds advanced on them quickly. Blood flew swift, as the adventurer’s cut a swath through the small band of kobolds. Celebrating their victory, the group looked around, realizing that they had lost Xevar. Searching the area, they could not find the dragonborn, but did find a note, which read, “Ambush any travelers on the path. Do this for another moon and then come back.”

While they were reading the note, a quick whistle came from the nearby brush. The group brandished their weapons quickly, but an elf with a bow on his back revealed himself. He explained his name was Hawthorn, Thorn for short. He had watched a couple kobolds bind the dragonborn during the fight and drag him off to an unknown location. He was unsure how they did it so quickly, but suspected some type of magic was involved.

The group agreed to bring Thorn along to help the defeat the kobolds, and share their reward, in return for Thorn helping them find Xevar and assist in any killing required.

The party once again set off, Thorn scouting a path.

They came upon a clearing of a stream. The ranger attempted to sneak towards the clearing, only to alert the kobolds, as one of them gave out a yell, and ran into what must have been a cave entrance at the end of the stream.
The band soon found themselves surrounded by kobolds, and were charged upon. The kobolds fell, but proved to be trickier than their counterparts, as the adventurers struggled to clean up the last of them. An altar which prevented whoever controlled it from being attacked thwarted the adventurers, until, by sheer numbers, they overwhelmed the kobold within the altar’s area.

The group edged closer to the mouth of the cave, peering in, but seeing nothing. Realizing possible opportunities for traps, the group found a tripwire, but accidentally set off the trap while attempting to disarm it, sending large rocks falling down in front of them. Luckily, the rocks missed their target, as the group sprung out of the way.

As the dust settled, looking once again into the cave, the group saw nothing. They decided to inch their way in. No sooner did they step in the entrance did the cave spring to life, as wave after wave of kobolds assaulted them. The adventurers fought valiantly, felling several of the minions. They were confident they had won. Suddenly, a shrill scream echoed across the cave, as the adventurers eyes widened with fear. A goblin, with an iron tooth crudely stuck in his gum, came charging towards the party, war axe drawn, and kobolds in line. Several members fell towards the ground, bloodied, as the kobold onslaught was strengthened by this enraged berserker. Pulling in every ounce of gusto they had, the fought on. Just when hope seemed to fade, an arrowhead appeared out of Irontooth’s eye, Thorn’s bow pointed at the back of the creature’s head. With Irontooth dead, the group finished off the remaining kobolds, proving their mettle to each other, and strengthening their confidence in the assembled party.

With the cave’s inhabitants either dead or gone, the group looked about the small cave for their dragonborn companion. Searching, they found a small treasure, and a paladin tied and gagged in the corner. The group welcomed back Xevar.
With further inspection, on the body of the slain goblin lay an ominous letter.

Xevar picked it up, and read aloud,“…In a couple weeks the artifact will be moved…”.

The group stared at each other, wondering what they had just gotten themselves into.

Your adventure begins...

Chapter 1 The Burning of Mudhaven

Thad had never liked guard duty much. He had signed up to be a soldier, not a guard in some hell hole like Mudhaven. When the forward posts had sent messages to Purea saying an impending goblin raiding party was coming, he was ecstatic, like most of the other Empire soldiers, to see some real action. The disappointment within the company was palpable when Captain Thresh ordered them to leave Mudhaven and guard the outward roads to prevent any traders from entering the city’s slums while the goblin raid was happening. In Captain Thresh’s words it would be a shame to let all those goods go to waste, and the refugee’s numbers within Mudhaven were becoming too great for the Empire to sustain in the area.

It didn’t make too much sense to Thad that they would be leaving the small village they were supposed to protect, knowing there was a goblin raid on the way, but who was he to question orders? These weren’t real citizens of the Empire after all, mostly refugees from the war with Fina. Even though the Empire had captured Purea, the citizens didn’t want them to be there. It was a common occurrence for guards to not come back from patrols within Mudhaven, their bodies found later in some alley with all their possessions taken. The refugees deserved what was coming.

Standing at a crossroads well before the city, Thad looked back at the billowing smoke rising from Mudhaven. He was feeling guilty. Surely, not all of the refugees deserved this fate. He could hear the village’s screams in the distance as he stopped whatever travelers were on the road from going any further. His companions were playing some kind of dice game just off the road. Only a couple wagons were halted, their drivers waiting, bored and uninterested in the screams. Most people in this area were accustomed to the horrors of war.

He looked up as six armed mercenaries walked down the road. It was an interesting group of adventurers, one that he recognized from Mudhaven. There were two gnomes, a minotaur, a dragonborn (to Thad’s dismay), a shifter, and an elf. This was the group that Captain Thresh had hired out to kill the kobolds. Captain Thresh didn’t think they would make it back.

One of the gnomes approached Thad, it apparently was a woman, but Thad was smart enough not to ask. She asked him what was going on, and he explained that the goblins had come down from the mountains and raided Mudhaven, as well as several other slums on the outskirts of Purea.

The gnome woman told him her name was Ella, and asked if they could get by. Thad thought for a moment. If he let them by, he may get in trouble. His fellow soldiers didn’t seem to care much as they continued playing their game. He could make up an excuse if they asked.

The group continued to push the issue.

In the end, he let them pass. It was the least he could do for abandoning the village. The adventurers might be able to help. Thad looked back towards Mudhaven once more; he had done what he could, in a small way.

The group rushed towards the village as fast as they could run.

By the time they got to the city, the goblins were gone, but villagers were running about, tripping over corpses of the unfortunate.

A woman screaming ran up to them, asking for help. Her children were trapped. The group followed the woman as quickly as possible, until part of the group broke off when a shady character stopped them, asking for help with a devious theft.
Bethe huddled under the table with her little brother, Bent. She was a big girl, nearly six years old, she reminded herself, as the house fell around them. She had to keep him safe. Bent was only four after all. Mama told her to get under the table as the fires raged around them. The hovel that they called a home was the only safe place for them as the goblins cut through the streets of Mudhaven.

Mama had gone to the door to peek outside, when the roof fell. Bethe’s hand grasped her brother’s tightly as everything went black around them. She couldn’t see, but she heard her brother crying and felt him heaving, struggling to breathe. Somewhere outside, Mama’s screams could be heard calling for help. Bethe kept holding on.
It seemed like ages before Bethe heard rummaging around them. Bethe couldn’t count very high, but she counted until she could count no more. She tried to whisper words of comfort to her brother after she ran out of numbers, but she felt his heaving stop. At that moment, she felt a pair of small hands reach in and grab her, sunlight and fire blinding her eyes as she was pulled out of the rubble.

Mama grabbed her from the little gnome woman’s arms, as a strange dragonborn stood over the rubble staring silently at her brothers hand sticking out of the rubble. Mama cried as she held on her, but Bethe couldn’t cry anymore. She fell asleep, exhausted.

Charles’ head hurt. There he was, about to score the biggest theft of his life so far, and his accomplices had betrayed him. He could’ve gotten into the barracks alone, but what if the soldier had shown back up? He needed back up. Backup that the minotaur and the elf that he recruited on the street were supposed to provide. However, all he remembered was waking up in the barracks, lump on his head, and sneaking out while the minotaur and elf stole his loot!
As Charles’ stumbled back to his hovel, he knew one thing, the Thieves guild would not be happy.

Through the smoke and sobbing a giant thud sounded, followed by a tremor. Again and again the quake and sound were heard. What villagers that were left in Mudhaven quickly fled away from the direction of the noise, even though the goblins had been long gone. Sensing danger, our adventurers rushed towards the small church of Pelor that the noise was emanating from, meeting each other once again.

Stopping suddenly, just on the outskirts of the church, their eye’s widened in horror as they saw skeletal figures shambling around the church’s courtyard. Surveying their situation, the group heard another thud, and a tremor emanating from the church. No sooner than the sound occurred, several more skeletal hands reached out of the nearby graveyard and pulled themselves towards the surface. Sensing that whatever was causing the tremors and rising of the dead was inside the church, the group fought their way through the skeletons and threw open the wooden church’s door.

Immediately the group realized this was a mistake. In the middle of the church was a pile of indiscernible bones, a horrific staff stuck in the mound of remains, with a chattering skull atop with green glowing eyes. A wave of necromantic force emanated from the staff and into the bones beneath it. At first it seemed as if nothing happened, but then the bones began to slowly come together as a small dragon. Clicking around the staff, the dragon turned its head towards the adventurers and let out a piercing roar.

The group fought tooth and nail towards the staff, but no sooner than they felled the skeletal dragon, the remaining bones around the staff turned into another nightmare. Suddenly, the minotaur warlord lashed out at the staff, only to be shot back in a flash of green light. Try as the adventurers did, they could not touch the staff, and had to continue fighting its skeletal minions. Eventually, the other monster was killed, and the staff gave one final cackle as it turned to dust before their eyes.

Searching the church, the party could hear cries for help underneath the back of the chapel. Finding a hidden door, the adventurers opened it cautiously. Sitting in a small room was Captain Thresh, gravely wounded, with the priest of Pelor over him.

The priest described what happened.

Before the goblins attacked, Captain Thresh had ordered his company to leave the village. The priest did not know why. The soldiers had left, and Big Shirley had asked the Captain to stay for just a bit longer. Before the Captain went unconscious, he told the priest, whose name was Father Chindon, that Big Shirley had stabbed him in rage before fleeing Mudhaven. The priest, had found Captain Thresh just as the goblins appeared on the horizon and dragged him into the Church’s secret compartment. They had both stayed in there during the attacks. It was true he had no love for the Captain. For months he had watched his congregation be abused by the Captain and his soldiers. During the attack, the Captain begged multiple times for the Father to heal his wounds. Father Chindon could not bring it upon himself to help such a monster. In desperation, the Captain told Father Chindon where the entrance to the goblin’s headquarters was in hopes that the Father would see he eventually planned to take care of the menace.

Enraged that the Captain had kept such valuable information from preventing the raid, the priest begged the party to end the Captain’s life. It would save the village from an evil presence, and no one would know. The group of adventurers refused to do the deed, so in a fit of rage the priest of Pelor quickly ended the Captain’s life.

The group was at a crossroads. The Captain had promised them a reward for helping quell the kobolds, but now the Captain was dead. Father Chindon gave the group the gold that he had gathered slowly from his congregation, in hopes that the group would not tell the authorities about his transgressions, and also in hopes that the adventurers might go after the goblin raiders. It was a small price to pay the gold of the church to end the goblin menace.

The adventurer’s, knowing that within the goblin stronghold was an artifact of some power, asked the priest to take them to the entrance that Captain Thresh had told him about.

Father Chindon led them to their destination.

Chapter 2: Durneun, The Ancient Duergar City

The adventurers stood in an open plain, a ways off of the road from Purea. It had taken them a couple days to traverse north towards the Usan Mountains. The party was baffled as Father Chindon led them to the entrance. Searching, Hawthorn found a huge stone, engraved with runes that read, “In spring four pillars hold me up, a shining dome above the earth. In summer two pillars support me, a doorway into mystery. In autumn three pillars stand beneath me, a temple of the Bright City. In winter pillars are crumbled to dust, a ruin of ancient glory.”

The group scratched their heads for a couple minutes, until Ella muttered, “A person?”.

At the sound of the answer, the stone rock grated against the ground, revealing a stone ladder down into the depths. Climbing into the dark room below them, they bid farewell to Father Chindon.

As soon as the party entered the cave, a shrill cry came from the roof as feral bats swooped down amongst them. Dispatching the bats, they looked around the room to find two doors. One doorway led across a huge chasm, with a small bridge connecting to the other side. A smaller door opened to a room full of skeletons. Xevar pushed his companions back, and drew in a deep breath, exhaling his dragonborn flame to crisp the foes. As they fell, the group entered the room to see a vast mural. The wall depicted the construction of a great underground fortress for the god Tiamat. His Duergar servants worshipped him within these halls. After a great war was lost, the Duergar turned from Tiamat in anger, and began to worship Vecna, the god of necromancy. Vecna raised their dead, and in turn for their servitude bestowed on them a gem-like artifact.

Moving forward, the group crossed the chasm to find a great chamber filled with their goblin foes. One by one the goblins fell until the group fought towards a staircase leading down into the Duergar ruins.

After a short rest the group descended into Durneun. As they went down, the air began to thicken with green smoke. A pungent odor filled their noses. Dodging traps and felling goblins alike, the group found a great chamber. Upon a pedestal stood the Book of Memories, telling how the Duergar thrived under Vecna’s protection, until one day, Tiamat, angered by their betrayal sent a horde of dragons to destroy the Duergar. Overtaking the city, the Duergar were slain. In a final act of defiance, Tiamat himself appeared and with his unholy breath melted the king’s throne around Vecna’s gifted artifact, sealing it for eternity.

The group continued onward and discovered the source of the green smoke. A goblin alchemist was conducting experiments within a small room. Capturing the alchemist, the group learned that the goblins had been working for the Cult of Vecna raiding nearby settlements to distract the locals while they searched for the artifact. They had found it, and now had a means to release it on the world. As Raz ripped the goblin’s conscience from his own mind, the goblin screamed. Amongst the scrolls in the room, Cornua found a vial filled with a powerful liquid. Pouring a little out, the liquid melted the stone around the table. It was clear that this was how the goblins intended to retrieve Vecna’s artifact.

Undeterred by the challenges ahead, the group moved further into the underground city. Fighting through the goblin’s barracks, the group found the old king’s chamber. Above the door to the chamber, a runic inscription read, “Woe to the Duergar King, for Tiamat this day has claimed his revenge. Death to those who seek to recover the Eye of Vecna.”
As they pushed open the door to the king’s chamber, warhorns sounded, and a great battle was taking place somewhere within the city. Stepping into the room, a voice met them, “I am Khekolak. Befor the turning, I served Tiamat and fell foolishly to the Duergar. Vecna has raised me from my folly. You will be an appropriate sacrifice for my new God.” With that a skeletal dragon swooped from the rafters.

The battle tested the adventurer’s might more than any other challenge thus far. But in the end, Vorrg removed the dragon’s skull with a mighty swing. Running to the balcony, the group could see a great battle taking place far below them in the massive throne room. Necromantic green light shone as a great goblin army fought a horde of Duergar skeletons. It seems that the Cult of Vecna and the goblins had turned on each other.

Racing down the nearest staircase, the group found themselves before a door, a door that was being held together by a tiny, terrified goblin. Something was on the other side trying to get in. The goblin begged the group to pull the lever nearby, as he could not both hold the door and pull the lever. The pounding on the door intensified and Hawthorn ran forward and pulled the lever. On the other side of the door a large blast could be heard, and then silence. The goblin thanked you for the help, and pledged his services to you. His name was Bumpkin. Instructing Bumpkin to leave the dungeon and wait for them, the group opened the door to find a charred room, with bones and weapons littering the area.

Room after room the adventurer’s moved forward, felling skeleton after skeleton, until finally they stood before the grand throne room.

Throwing open the door and rushing in, the group found a dead goblin army in a vast chamber. At the end of the chamber was a throne with the Eye of Vecna encased in crystal from Tiamat’s breath. On the throne sat Father Chindon. With a grin, Chindon said, “I see you brought me the elixir to release the Eye. I’m glad you have helped me thus far, but sadly I will be needing to kill you now.”

The group met the necromancer head on. Blow after blow, the adventurers fought. Losing the fight, out of desperation, Raz grabbed the vial from Cornua and ran towards the throne as Father Chindon was distracted fighting the others. Emptying the contents onto the crystal surrounding the eye, the Eye of Vecna fell to the floor. With a scream Father Chindon dove for the artefact, and with an angelic chorus Ella ripped him in half. As the group celebrated their victory, they heard a chuckle. Sinew by sinew, Father Chindon’s body was pulling itself back together, “the Eye is mine,” he shrieked.

Once again the group met him in battle, and with a swing of his weapon, Cornua separated Father Chindon from the mortal coil once more. A great voice filled the room, like the cries of a thousand innocents dying, “you disappoint me Chindon.” With that there was silence.

No sooner had the group sat down to rest, Big Shirley appeared in the throne room. With a cloak of black, and a long sword in one hand, she no longer appeared to be a harlot. Smiling she explained she was the Judge of Moradin. She had been sent by the high priest of Moradin to Purea to investigate the cult of Vecna, to find the artifact, and bring it back to the tower of Moradin, on the edge of the crater to be destroyed forever. She beseeched the adventurers to give her the eye, but before a decision was made, her eyes filled with fear.

Hundreds of footsteps could be heard running towards the throne room. “Fly you fools,” whispered Judge Shirley. Instantly she disappeared in a puff of magic as hundreds of the Empire’s soldiers entered the chamber. Outnumbered, with no chance of winning, the group surrendered themselves. Blindfolded, they were led away.

Days later, they awoke to find themselves in a dark, dank, jail cell, deep beneath the ground somewhere.

Chapter 3: The Catacombs of Purea

Our heroes awoke to the sound of prisoner's screams, finding themselves in the dungeons of the city-state Purea. Weeks seemed to pass, and as the last glimmer of hope slipped through their fingers, a savior came. Prince Brayflox, Protectorate of Purea, and prisoner of the Empire appeared at their cell door. He requested our heroes flee the dungeons to the Kingdom of Purea, and ask the great Dragonborn King to once more wage war against the Empire and free Purea from its grasp.

Confused as to why the King of Fina would do such a thing, Prince Brayflox explained to the heroes that the Empire was trying to summon a demonic army of some evil god to once again wage war on the realm, with one goal in sight: total domination of the continent.

In exchange for their freedom, the heroes must escape to Fina, secure the King's help, and do what the King asked of them. Along with their freedom, Prince Brayflox promised great rewards. With no where else to turn, the prisoners agreed.

With their agreement, Prince Brayflox gave them each a bag of holding, with supplies in it to last four days, along with all of their former items. Prince Brayflox then waved his hand, and magically a passageway appeared in the heroes cell. The only way out of the city under the Empire's watchful eyes was through the catacombs.

In the catacombs the heroes fought off the Empire's soldiers and discovered which evil god had allied himself to them, Lord Asmodeus. As our heroes ventured further into the catacombs, they closed portals into Asmodeus' realm meant to summon more demon troops to their world. Eventually the heroes closed all of the portals and stumbled into a great underground river that took them out of the catacombs and into the Kingdom of Fina.

Chapter 4: The Crumbling of an Empire

Weary and ragged from the catacombs, our adventurers walked east as best as they could for several days, trying to reach the capital of the Kingdom of Fina, Dragonclaw. Eventually, disturbing the local peasants with their presence, Dragonborn soldiers of the Kingdom found them. Explaining they were sent by Prince Brayflox, the Protectorate of Purea, the soldiers took them to Dragonclaw, through many fiefdoms of the King. They stayed in Lord's castles along the way, recuperating their wounds.

One morning, escorted by the soldiers, they saw Dragonborn on the horizon. A great city in the middle of a large plateau, thriving under the protection of Lord Bahamut's guidance, the Dragonborn had created a sprawling Kingdom from which their monarchy could rule. In the center of the city was a great castle, forged from the breath of dragons, a great stone melted into a marvelous structure. Without any hesitation, the soldiers took our adventurer's to the castle, winding their way through the many streets of the city. Within hours the heroes found themselves in the great throne room of the King of Fina, King Narciar.

Court was in session, and our heroes were next in line. Standing in the back of the courtroom, they could hear the King speaking with some of his subjects. The soldiers had left the adventures in the care of a young Dragonborn, a page to the King.

The group of heroes was drawing peculiar stares from the Dragonborn around them, mostly highborn privileged denizens of the Kingdom. Still one group away from meeting with the King, the page turned to our heroes and whispered, "just one more moment while the king finishes up with these farmers ahead of us. Apparently there was some nasty incident with sheep. Something to do with inappropriate behavior. You may talk quietly among yourselves, but be careful to not raise your voices too high."

With that the page waited silently facing the throne. The dribbles of politics could be heard from the front of the throne room.

Xevar should know whats going on, after all he is a giant lizard too. He decides Xevar is trying to fight down another bought of uncontrolled gas, the way he was standing so rigid and the look of utter concentration. Xevar is probably the gassiest critter hes ever met, always burping up fire and who knows what from the other end..

Playing with the blue beard that was stubbornly perched on his chin he decides to set his own standard and tries his best to look invisible and insignificant while scanning about for anything interesting lieing about that wouldn't be missed to much, he mumbled back to Varrg, "I don't know but I hope they want to talk about more than sheep. Being the attention seeker that she is, Ella entertains the Dragoborn who stand behind their party in line. She tells them stories in what some would describe as an overly dramatic fashion. Lost in her epic tale, Ella's voice gets louder and louder...

".... Without a bit of hesitation, I jumped through the hole in the floor and fell through the darkness. I tumbled through the air for what seemed like FOREVER, until I landed in water. Thank goodness for that... I would have gone SPLAT had it not been there. It was THEN that this MASSIVE crab monster thing reared its ugly head and decided that my friends and I would be dinner. Several of the dragonborn nobles seemed entertained by Ella's tale. The guards are shifting around nervously, hoping that Ella's voice doesn't become so loud that the king could hear it. As she continues with her story, the page turns to the group and motions for them to step forward. It seems that the talk about the sheep has met an amiable end, and the petitioners were now leaving the area in front of the throne.

As the group walks towards the throne, their eyes fall upon the Dragonborn king. Upon an ornate gold throne sits a Dragonborn of truly regal stature. Although the throne itself is a magnificent sight to behold, the room is a rather bland dwelling. Blue banners emblazoned with Fina's insignia lie upon columns on either side of the room. A multitude of tall, thin windows peer out to the city below. While the King's age is showing, wrinkles clearly evident upon drooping eyelids, he sits with a straight back and royal presence. His deep blue eyes turn to each of the party members as he squints to make out each of the figures before him.

The rest of the nobles stand about, quite taken aback by these outsiders. Listening to the stories being told by the little gnome woman, there are respectful, albeit slightly jealous glances coming from the noblemen and women.

The page walks to the front of the group, and with a deep bow, introduces the adventurer's.

"My Lord liege, King of Fina, Protector of the Flame Bahamut, Conqueror of the Coastal Tribes, I present to you those who escaped from the deep dungeons of Fina."

The young dragonborn pauses briefly to catch his breath.

"Cornua, the warlord, strong yet wise. Hawthorn, the ranger, slayer of goblin called Iron-Tooth. Ella, the bard, weaver of tales. Xevar, the paladin, bane of the undead. Lili, the psion, solver of the riddle demon. Vorrg, the warden, the fierce."

The king holds up his scaled hands in welcome and says,"Bahamut has promised me a group worthy of Fina's legacy. Although, I find it odd only one of you is Dragonborn. I would see you all closer and have you introduce yourselves to me one by one. My old eyes aren't as keen as they used to be." He then motions for the party to come forward.

"Ella, the Bard, I am known through land

And I cannot help but sing.

This group I present is the finest of fine,
With honorable hearts, like mine.

Ella sings a few more stanzas before concluding...

"But enough out of me,
Let us bow down to thee.

Upon the completion of Ella's song the dragonborn king claps mightily, along with the rest of the nobles. He nods to his court wizard with his approval and then smiles softly.

"I welcome you, in the name of Bahamut, to my kingdom. We have much to discuss," the king says with an old, wise voice. He motions for the noble congregation to leave the room. It takes a couple minutes for the noblemen and women, dressed in all of their finery, to leave the throneroom; all that is left is the king, his advisers, and guards.

"I will not lie to you, for it is not our custom. We are not used to putting so much trust in outsiders, especially non dragonborn, or the dragonborn clans of the north," as he says this he gazes seriously at Xevar and continues.

"Prince Brayflox most likely only has Purea's freedom in his interests, so I do this not for him. I am aware that he would like my Kingdom to once again wage war against the Empire. However, our Kingdom can barely patrol the borders between the Empire and our own. When we lost the war ten years ago, it was out of greed. Instead of protecting the principality of Purea, we tried to take it as our own, much like the Empire did, and for this reason Bahamut denied us our victory. He was silent to our prayers for many years, until now. Our scouts and spies have reported that you have discovered a plot with the Empire and Lord Asmodeus, the most foul. Upon this, Bahamut appeared to our high priests once more, in our great temple. He instructed that we should once again wage war against the Empire in order to cleanse this land of their foul union. Not for greed, and power, but for good."

The king coughed several times, his age showing through his speech.

"As I said I will not lie, we have no power to meet the Empire in the field of battle, especially with Asmodeus' armies being summoned to the field. Sadly, we must try something unconventional, something that we are not accustomed to: we must assassinate the Emperor and the Triumvirate who rule beneath him. Although, we do have a spy network within their capital city of Peloria, they are ill equipped to take down the Emperor. This is where you come in. Since you have experience with fighting Asmodeus' minions, and you have the blessing and support of Prince Brayflox, we are sending you to Peloria. Once there, you will head our network and create discord throughout the city, eventually leading to the Emporer's death. With his death the Empire will fall in on itself and expose themselves to our troops."

The king's face becomes grave.

"Any questions?"

You meet the glare of a Dragonborn standing near the king, one of his advisers, clearly meant to protect the throne room from any kind of psychic invasion. Since you did not ascertain any pertinent information, you can tell that the adviser is some kind of psychic of great renown.

Question to the eye- You hear nothing, as if the silence in itself is a way of Vecna mocking your lack of faith in his power.

Cornua's spoiler:

"As for your supplies, fear not. The spies that we have in Peloria will provide all that you need in regards to food and shelter. I will also give you 100 gold each just in case the network is ill-equipped to provide basic necessities. You seem to already be well stocked in equipment. History Check: You recall from your travels that Peloria is the capital city of the Empire of the Three. It is an old city and has long been the center of administrative and economic matters for the Empire. There is a thriving slave trade there and humans are considered the upper caste of the Empire. Most other races are scarce, however some freed slaves do live in the slums of the city and make a meager living. The mundane tasks of the Empire are decided by an elected triumvirate, however the Emperor can overrule or disband the triumvirate whenever he sees fit. In recent history, the young Emperor has been driving the Empire deeper into evil ways, and changing the culture slowly.

Ok everyone! I decided to not do group initiative since we all know each other IRL. This way if someone is taking too long we can just get on them. There was no surprise round, as the bad guy used it to kill the two guards outside. I rolled for everyone's initiative. The initiative order is as follows:

Hawthorn
Vorrg
Bad Guy 1
Cornua
Lili
Xevar
Ella

Feel free to get creative with the attacks, just remember don't put whether you hit or not. Also read the OOC thread for instructions on how to post. Basically it should include flavor text of the attack (discluding hits or misses, GM will do that), what your standard, move, and minor actions are. If you are moving, whatever square you are moving to and I will move you.

As the occupants of the room begin to realize whats happening, the tiefling continues his attack. A bardic screech hits him squarely in the chest, causing a look of determination to cross his face. The room then fills with an uplifting melody. Psychic assaults bounce off the tiefling's mental defenses, while arrows fly past him, one narrowly gleaning off his leather armor. Distracted by all of the ranged attacks, the tiefling is only able to sidestep one of the mighty blows from Vorrg in front of him, while the second attack from hits him in the hip. As the swing lands, the melody in the air from Ella seems to heal Vorrg's wounds.

The tiefling prepares for his counter attack. Seeing a perfect target, the tiefling gazes at the Paladin that is now fully ready for battle, eyes turning black; Xevar's eye's glaze over and his face becomes stoic. Continuing his assault on Vorrg, the tiefling brings down his warhammer once more. Raising his shield, Vorrg blocks the attack.

The tiefling is hit by two attacks simultaneously; one an arcane force to his side, another an arrow that lodges squarely in his leg. He notices Vorrg's swing just in time to roll slightly out of the way.

Anger flashes in the tiefling's eyes and he slams his fist into the ground, causing the floor around him to spew a necrotic aura. The aura whips around Cornua and Vorrg, hitting them both and causing their legs to become evidently heavy.

Cornua's warhammer meets air as the swing is dodged by the Tiefling. While Lili's mental attacks are caught and hang in the air like worthless gnats. As Xevar touches Vorrg, Vorrg's wounds heal slightly. Distracted by the multiple attacks, the Tiefling fails to dodge an assault from Ella. As her sung whispers wound themselves around the warrior's ears, he believes that those nearest him are responsible for the attack. No sooner than he growls at Vorrg, an arrow slices through his arm. As he recoils, he dodges Vorrg's swing to his nether regions.

The Tiefling laughs at Vorrg and licks the blood from his arm before mocking the group before him, "The Emperor will rejoice at your heads on pikes!"

As he says this, the ground around him continues to glow a foul purple. The lights coil around Vorrg and Cornua, causing them to experience a small amount of pain throughout their body.

As Cornua is distracted by the lights, the Tiefling swings his mighty mace, hitting the minotaur in the the chest. As the blow lands, an audible crack can be heard. Cornua, although still standing, coughs up blood.

As Cornua is brought to full health from his own powers and that of his allies, he delivers a mighty blow to the tiefling. The tiefling spits out a couple of teeth and chuckles, beckoning for the attacks to continue. Lili's mental attacks bounce off an unseen barrier, not able to penetrate the will of her opponent. As Xevar moves forward to engage, he engulfs the tiefling in a blaze of fire, and lashes out with a quick strike, hitting the tiefling on the side of the leg. All of a sudden, a strike from nowhere (although Ella knows better), hits the tiefling and dislodges his eye from it's socket. Screaming in pain, the tiefling bends down as arrows fly over his head, while Vorrg's strike misses it's target.

Standing up, eye hanging like a limp noodle, and blood spurting onto Vorrg and Xevar in front of him, the tiefling screams, "I will not fail the Emporer!"

As Xevar's fire burns around him, in one quick strike, the tiefling brings his hammer down on Vorrg, missing wildly. He looks up and glares at Hawthorn, aware of his position among the beds; Hawthorn's eyes roll into the back of his head. The aura around the tiefling glows, once again causing Xevar and Vorrg to cry out in pain.

Panting from his continued effort, the tiefling draws on his inner strength and continues his assault bringing down his mace once more at Vorrg, this time hitting him square on the shoulder. The adventurer's unleash a string of successful attacks on the would-be assassin. Cornua's with a mighty roar hits the tiefling with his warhammer, and as he does so, an icy cold frost spreads over the tiefling's skin. Distracted by the frigid cold and exhausted from the continued mental barrages from Lili, a psionic attack breaches the tieflings mental wall and a sharp pain emanates from his head. Clutching his skull, he does not notice the radiant blow coming from Xevar's sword, piercing the tiefling's right shoulder, blood flowing freely. Through sheer luck the tiefling dodges Ella's attack, but this allows Vorrg to shift backwards with a feral growl, primal power healing his wounds.

Tired, and clearly outmatched, the tiefling lets out a scream of defeat and turns to run. One foot out the door, the tiefling is engulfed in a massive radiant light, and as he turns to the party, you see radiant energy emanate from the assassin's chest, his leather armor disintegrating, holes appearing all over his body. Within mere seconds his constitution succumbs to the surprise attack, and the assassin explodes from the inside out. Wiping the gore from your eyes, you see Arch-Bishop Balvroth, with several wounds, barely holding himself up with his staff.

As you step through the portal you feel as if someone has taken your nostrils with tongs and drug you through a tunnel much too small for your body. Complete darkness surrounds you as you travel unforeseen distances. Suddenly, you hit the hard stone ground of reality with a thud; light shines brightly overhead. Your companions are around you, laying on the ground in different states of discomfort, but seemingly unharmed.

You seem to be in some sort of alleyway; on either side of you are rundown buildings, stretching multiple stories into the sky. The smell suddenly hits you as you take your first breath. Clearly in a poorer section of whatever town you landed, the air smells like rot and dung. At one end of the dank alley you see that the street meets some kind of large market, peasants of multiple races are walking about on their business, none of which seems to have noticed your sudden appearance.

All of a sudden a fragile wooden door slams open in the alleyway and a rather fat, ugly shifter wearing a cook's apron appears.

Hawthorn Spoiler: You recognize that the granular bits of the creamy brown sauce contain some sort of oats and rye, probably associated with a donkey or pony. Kylie walked down the filthy street. "This place is disgusting," she muttered to herself. Despite the smell of the slums her stomach had been growling for a while now. She needed something to eat. Suddenly, she saw a strange group talking to a cook in front of a dingy tavern. "Food!"

She smiled and started walking closer. The nearer she got to the group, the more she smiled. A minotaur with a pink beard and an elf with a blue beard! What sort of trouble was she walking into? There were two nomes. One was the most adorable nome she'd ever seen. The other kind of looked like she used to be a man, yikes! She seemed to be super bossy for such a little being. She must have some crazy powers. Maybe she was the reason for the blue and pink beards. Kylie chuckled to herself. Her eyes shifted to a dragon born who seemed obsessed with cleanliness. He kept polishing his shield for some reason. In the background was a strange being Kylie had not yet seen in her years. A shifter maybe?

Her stomach growled again as the group followed after the cook into the rickety building. "Ugh. Why not? Maybe I can see if the food kills them first before I give it a try." With that thought, she walked into the tiny shack.

"Welcome to the Savory Shifter," the cook says with a stained grin. With a curt nod he points to some empty tables near the bar and instructs you to sit down while he fetches some of his best gruel for you.

Your first sight of the place are the stains on the tables and walls. Clearly food and ale have been thrown around quite a bit in this establishment. Dimly lit by a fireplace and candles at every table, the morning light shines through a couple small windows. It is somewhat a large dining area, with about ten tables, over half of which occupied by beings of various races besides humans. A wooden, most probably rotten staircase leads to the upstairs balcony where there are a couple more tables and chairs. Morning is just dawning and several people are eating porridge somewhat gleefully. After awhile a rather busty waitress brings bowls of gruel for you to eat. A moldy loaf of bread is also left on the table.

A group of hooded figures enter and walk up the staircase to the tables above. You clearly see the chef and waitress give each other a nervous glance, and the waitress hustles off to serve the new guests.

She saw the shifter sit with the odd group of characters instead of chatting with the cook. She had assumed they knew each other. Shouldn't all shifters know each other or something. Kylie, that's so racist. Just because you're a half elf doesn't mean you know all the other half elves. Pull yourself together. New place. Lot's has happened to you recently. Be cool. You're doing awesome....ugh...I have got to give myself better pep talks. Her forehead landed with a thud on the table in front of her. "Ouch! I think I got a splinter stuck in my head."
She finished off the last few bites of her food. Exhausted, she stood and walked over to the two gnomes. "Took me forever to get my food. I bet someone ordered something ridiculous like eggs benedict. My names Kylie, by the way. What brings you two here if you don't mind me asking? It's easy to tell your group doesn't blend in too well here...or, well...anywhere for that matter. And is it just me...or did you get the heebie jeebies that last group just came through because I was all shivers down the spine." She shook her head and shimmied her shoulders to further prove her point.

Several minutes pass, the audible sounds of horses coming closer down the street, and a strange commotion outside fills the surrounding area. The denizens of the bar clearly stiffen and the bar becomes silent, the only sound being the smacking of gums on chewy potato bits. Armor clanking can be heard as the door is thrown open and what can only be a squad of empire soldiers fills the front of the bar. The cook lets out what can only be described as a squeal, and hurries to the front of his establishment.

"Ah, mah friends, welcoom, welcoom, may I offer you a drink," the cook says as he approaches the staff sergeant. No sooner does he reach the sergeant, the soldier holds up a hand to silence the cook.

"By order of His Imperial Majesty, ruler of the Three Rivers, Life of the Fountain, and Keeper of the Seal of the Imperium, this establishment is closed for harboring the enemies of our great Empire!"

Lili's mental assault harmlessly bounces off the determined sergeant's mind. Adrenaline and anger overtake Lili; Her tiny arms try to flip the human sized table in front of her, but all that is accomplished is a slight scoot forward.

No sooner did Lili's attack fail did Cornua's mighty hammer crush the skull of the human in front of him, the soldier crumpling to the ground like a bag of potatoes.

As Hawthorn shifts his position, he looses two arrows; one hits the bloodied mage square in the chest, causing the mage to fall to the ground. The other quarry deftly bats the second shot from the air with his quarterstaff.

Xevar's glowing light enhances Kylie's constitution, but his swinging sword is deflected by the spearman's shield, leaving a hefty dent. The fire consumes Kylie still, distracting her aim, as her blast flies towards the ceiling, blasting out a rafter but keeping the roof intact.

Taking the lead, the sergeat swings his longsword, creating a deep gash in Vorrg's side, cutting through fur and skin. The spear man, working in conjunction with the sergeant sweeps Vorrg's legs out from under him, the shifter hitting the floor with a thud. The footsoldiers, seeing the opportunity, move in and try and stab Vorrg while he is prone. One sword finds it's mark in Vorrg's stomach, while Vorrg miraculously parries the other with his shield. Vorrg coughs up a steady stream of blood from the ongoing assault.

Vorrg is now -very- bloodied, and prone. Kylie is still on fire and taking ongoing damage every turn.

The final mage shifts away from the slaughter and focuses. Seeing a group of ranged enemies he calls down a burst of lightning in the middle of them. Kylie, still engulfed in fire cannot dodge the attack, and the lightning burst hits her with full force. Ella dodges out of the way; Lili summons a psychic shield, the lightning burst curving around her barrier before it dissipates.

The last soldier, still engaged with the massive paladin, tries to trip Xevar, but his attack meets Xevar's steel greaves with no effect.

The large dragonborn moves forward and radiant light surrounds his longsword. As he brings it down on on the soldier in front of him, a quick parry knocks his attack out of the way, and the radiant light dissipates.

As Ella strikes a soothing note, Vorrg is invigorated and pushed slightly away from harm. Turning towards her enemy, she sends a fanciful melody, but it seems to have no effect on the focused soldier.

Ella heals Vorrg.

Lili turn's her orb and focuses an attack on the mind of the sergeant, but only seems to penetrate a small part of his mind. It does seem to have some effect, however, as he flinches a bit from the assault.

Kylie, unable to put out the fire surrounding her tries to send a barrage towards her quarry, but is too distracted from the flames and misses. As the flames rage on, Kylie becomes visibly distressed.

Kylie takes 5 ongoing damage from fire. She does not roll high enough to put it out. Kylie is now bloodied!

Seeing his comrade used as a pincushion, Cornua booms out a heartening command, boosting Vorrg's fortitude. He then lets out a great warcry and charges forward, bounding over a short table and gores the spear man clear in the midsection, knocking him to the ground.

Cornua heals Vorrg. Cornua hit spear man in K5 for 8 damage. Spear man is prone.

Cornua takes 16 damage from enemy in i6. Cornua is bloodied.

The experienced spearman stands up quickly and jabs at Cornua, but Cornua parry's with his hammer.

Cornua turns his parry into an attack and whacks the spearman in the side of the head, drawing a steady stream of blood.

Cornua rock in a hard place ability hits enemy in k5 for 10 damage. Enemy in k5 is now bloodied.

Defending himself from the paladin in front of him, the corporal stabs forward, scoring a hit underneath the arm where plate meets mail.

Xevar takes 16 damage from enemy in k6.

Seeing two of his friends slain by some ranged foe, and having a reinvigorated shifter appear suddenly next to him, the spearman takes a step back and aims a javelin at the gnome playing the funny songs. He leaps forward and the javelin flies, hitting Ella in the arm and taking a chunk with it.

Hawthorn sneaks further into the corner of the bar area, hiding next to the backdoor that the group came in. As the battle rages on, he draws two arrows, quickly reveals himself, and lets them loose. They both find their target, hitting the battlemage in the front of the bar.

Lili calls upon her orb and attempts to breach the sergeants will, failing once again to break his training. Frustrated, she slinks behind the bar, shakes her orb violently, stands up and attempts to attack again. Sadly, her attack falls against the sergeants mental wall. The sergeant smirks as he continues to engage the group.
You hear clicking laughter come from your pack. "Fool! I was a fool to believe you to be an appropriate host! Your faith in Ioun is misplaced! This city will swallow you whole."

Kylie stops, drops, and rolls; To her astonishment, and the astonishment of the Divine Pantheon, the fire is extinguished. Emboldened by the lack of flames eating at her flesh, Kylie sends a blast from her wand haphazardly in the direction of her enemies, missing them all.

Cornua lets out a mighty roar, pink beard and all, and gives a mighty upward swing with his hammer. The attack hits the sergeant violently in the face, and the sergeant doubles over and spits out blood and teeth, clearly in pain from the assault. Frost wraps around the sergeant's legs, slowing his movement.

Ella plays a harmonious tune, and Cornua is wrapped in healing melodies, regaining some of his health. With Ella's main attention focused on the healing of Cornua, her forceful chord falls on the enemies' deaf ears.

Seeing his position become flanked, Vorrg leaps back quickly and lands a blow on the spear man behind him.

Xevar moves against the wall, wisely preventing any attacks from behind, and unleashes two radiant attacks, each deflected by the nimble spear.

While the battle on the first floor of the building continues, it is clear the hooded figures up the stairs are losing to the imperial scouts above. One hooded figure is thrown over the balcony and lands in a heap on the bar, the hilt of a dagger protruding from the dead's chest. Fewer and fewer sounds of engagement can be heard upstairs.

As the body falls near you, the hood falls off revealing a young human man with strange tattoos over his face. He is wearing some light leather armor under his cloak.

Corporal hits Xevar for 16 damage. Speaman misses completely.

The sergeant, bloodied from the previous attack angrily assaults Cornua, feinting with his shield while his long sword cuts through Cornua's side, drawing a steady stream of blood once more.

Sergeant hits Cornua for 13 damage. Cornua is now bloodied.

Defending himself against Vorrg, the spearman quickly jabs while Vorrg is off balance, landing a glancing blow on Vorrg's leg.

Spearman hits Vorrg for 9 damage.

Angered by the two arrows stuck in his mage armor, the mage draws a firebolt and directs it at Ella. The bolt flies at too great a speed for Ella to dodge, and hits her, flames surrounding her body. The smell of scorched flesh once again fills the room.

Lili barely tries to attack as exhaustion from the battle and continued failure overwhelms her. Her psychic bolt doesn't even hit her target but rather flies off into the distance before it dissipates in a pathetic breeze.

You can hear whispers in your mind, "Embrace me, and I will show you ENDLESS POWER!" In your pack you can feel something rolling about frantically.

Hawthorn reveals himself once again and unleashes a whirlwind of arrows, frost trailing two arrows in the air, one finding the bloodied sergeant's arm. With a swirl of his cloak he disappears into the shadows.

Hawthorn hits for 9 damage? I think, you need to be more specific with those rolls, I have no idea what applies where.

Kylie takes a moment and crouches behind the bar, arm shaking, she pulls out a bandage from her pack and wraps it around her wounds, stifling the bleeding.

As Xevar mutters an ancient prayer, radiant light shines about his longsword. In one swell motion he rears back for a mighty attack. As the man raises his spear in defense, Xevar cuts through spear and man, leaving a gaping wound from shoulder to chest. The warrior drops to the ground with a short scream.

Xevar crits and kills the spear man!

Vorrg swipes at the other spearman, but the spearman slides to the right.

Cornua, bloodied, but still able, swings with his axe, but by shear luck the sergeant is thrown back out of the way from an unseen arrow from behind the bar.

With that, the sergeant is bolstered, and gives out a warcry, swinging once again. As Cornua is about to be hit, an arrow from Hawthorn's bow comes flying and deflects the sergeant's hand, sword barely grazing Cornua's figure.

Seeing his comrade slain by the paladin, the mage cries out in fury and unleashes a devastating wave of fire that Xevar cannot dodge. Fire consumes what cloth Xevar is wearing, and burns red hot.

Xevar takes 12 damage and is now on fire and bloodied!

Surprised by Vorrg's veracity, the spearman swings his spear low and attempts to trip Vorrg, but Vorrg jumps over the spear nimbly.

Guess it was my turn to miss a bunch. Only one attack landed! Cornua got lucky this time, help him out!

As the battle rages on, most of the imperial soldiers have been slain. You can no longer here any commotions on the balcony, and it seems that the corporal has noticed this as well. "Retreat," he yells before making a dash towards the door. Before he makes it, the door to the pub bursts open, and a large humanoid figure appears with a great bow in hand. He looses two quarries at once, and seemingly with the assistance of some magic, they both find the remaining corporal and spear man clear in the head, and the two soldiers fall from the barbed arrows.

He ignores all of you and runs up the stairs through the blood and gore. All of a sudden you can hear an anguished scream from the balcony. The barmaid appears from the backroom, shaking in shock.

As you approach the top of the rickety stairs, you see the large figure hunched over two of the hooded corpses. The man that came in at the end of the battle was a hulking human. Tattoos, like the ones on the other hooded figures cover his body. Several stitches appear woven in and out of his skin, seemingly from recent fights. His long blond hair is braided, and a great beard adorns his face. Surrounding him are about five corpses of humans that look to belong to the same tribe or clan, all dead and strewn about in various states of injuries. A couple imperial scouts are dead among the slaughter as well, it seems the group upstairs did not go down without some kind of fight.

The man begins to shake with rage as he picks up two of the smaller bodies in either of his armsthat were in the wreckage; he pulls the adolescent bodies close to him. As their hoods fall off, you can see two teenage children, one boy and one girl. Their appearances are strikingly similar to the man holding them. The man lets out a guttural scream, as loud as a dragon, and then becomes calm.

He turns to you and says, "It is not safe here any longer. The Empire's soldiers will show up any minute to investigate the disturbance. Quickly, follow me."

As he says this he drops the two corpses before bounding down the stairs, nearly barreling you over. He lands on the first floor below and heads towards the back door. You can hear him say loudly, "Hurry this way," before his footsteps become dimmer.

Downstairs, the barmaid is holding the cooks headless corpse and crying.

I head behind the bar and shovel the booze into my bag of holding before heading outside with the stranger.

Then he follows the fellow out the door, seeing as he obviously knows whats going on around here, after handing the bar maid 2 gold coins and telling her that she should either run away to the woods and live in a tree or try and open the tavern again.. but this time..sell only doughnuts..with custard filling and chocolate frosting.. with good strong coffee.. surely even the grumpy soldiers would mutiny if ordered to cause such chaos here again..

As the large man runs into the backroom, the group hurries behind him. Xevar picks up the sobbing barmaid and runs into the kitchen with everyone else. Inside the kitchen is a hole dug into the floor, a table has been pushed out of the way by the man, and he quickly climbs down a ladder into the darkness. The group, one by one drops down into the dark. The barmaid screams, "wait,"and she wrestles herself from Xevar's grasp with surprising dexterity. She grabs a candle and a jar of oil, and quickly, before Xevar can grab her, douses the kitchen in oil and drops the lit candle. The room is engulfed in flames, and the barmaid jumps down the ladder, Xevar the last to leave the room.

As you climb down the ladder into the abyss, darkness completely engulfs you, someone shuts the trapdoor above you, completely sealing you in. You bump into several of your companions in the tight space. The corridor or room you are in is clearly stone, dank and damp, and smells distinctly of decay and filth. You hear the man say, "dammit all," before he starts rummaging in his knapsack. A strike of the match, and the room becomes light, at least as far as the torch the man just lit will allow you to see.

The man raises his finger to his lips quickly to indicate quite. He looks to either side, and whispers, "the name is Gorn, that sobbing mess is Valerna."

Looking around, you seem to be in the middle of some kind of underground intersection, with four different directions to go. In horror, you realize that on all the walls are rows and rows of long dead skulls and bones. Dripping can be heard from overhead, and scattering of creatures in the distance.

Gorn looks at Cornua briefly before squinting down the corridor once more, seemingly looking for any signs of danger.

"You think didn't hurry to save my own children from slaughter," Gorn says softly. A look of anger crosses his face.

"Who are you anyways? The only reason I have accepted your presence is the fact you tried to help my tribe. Now I don't see why I shouldn't leave you down here to be lost until your death!"

Valerna steps up for a moment and says to Gorn, "Balhar, the cook found them outside in the alley. The magic wards didn't go off when they crossed the threshold. He brought them in to shelter them so the soldiers wouldn't find them."

Gorn looks sternly at Valerna, "That doesn't answer my question, only raises more; who are you, and why were you at the Savory Shifter at the time of the Empire's attack?"

Gorn grips his great bow firmly, a serious expression on his face.

Xevar, Cornua, Vorrg, Ella and I are...diplomats...representing the kingdoms of Fina and Purea. Although I fear King Narciar may be lost, they were just attacked this morning as well. We were in the middle of our meal when those goons barged in and slew the cook and we instinctively jumped to action. Luckily Kylie here was on our side, too. We happened to be in the middle of aggressive negotiations when you showed up.

Realization crosses Gorn's face after Lili's statement, "Arch-Bishop Balvroth must have gated you here, that's how you bypassed our wards. He sent word that he was sending help. This must be rather confusing, you were probably expecting the agents of Fina to be Dragonborn. I suppose some explanation is required. I am the chieftain of one of the original tribes of the three rivers, the Denari. There were three tribes once that lived in these lands, but the Denari are the last. The Empire came from south, across the sea and drove us from our lands. We agreed to be the eyes and ears of Fina during the war ten years ago, when they lost we continued to fight on. It seems they wish to renew this alliance. But it may be too late. The Empire's vast armies march from Purea to attack Fina as we speak, that must be why they sent assassins to kill King Narciar."

Gorn thinks for a minute,"The Denari have tried to connect as much of these catacombs as we could during the war, but many of the passageways have been blocked by the Empire. I'm afraid we will have to find our way out, and only then can we plot to kill the Emporer and put the Empire into turmoil. I only hope that the weakened armies of Fina can withstand for a bit longer."

Gorn looks at Ella and thanks her for her condolences. He also assures her in a crude way, that he will be able to make more. Ella gets a distinct impression that in Gorn's tribe, children are more of property than actual family members.

You cannot take an extended rest, as it has not been 12 hours since your last extended rest (in the castle in Fina). You were sleeping and taking a rest when the assassin attacked. Fwahahaha

Seeing the fellow struggling to lite the torch, Hawthorn reaches into his deceptively high capacity satchel and pulls out an ever-burning torch.. eerie green fire light fills the corridor, which just seems perfect for the new surroundings..still its not hot, it couldn't even catch the highly combustible half elf or bard on fire.. these things were always a blast to mess around with.. maybe, just maybe it could catch them on fire.. mhm... caught up in this reverie he notices that the group seems to be more or less at a loss of which way to head..

Gorn, if its just out your trying to go the quickest way would be the way we just came in.. but seeing how some of us have already played with fire enough, he makes a slight bow to the singed folk, I suspect I can help.. you see I once knew a dwarf that liked to drink.. and tell all his dwarfy secrets.. mhm.. to many about dainty lady dwarf beards as he called them..but..short story long I can help if you prefer to lead or lead if you don't..

Kylie felt a comfort in knowing her gut had been right to side with the strange group. She eyed the one they called Hawthorn and his green flame. How do you carry that in a satchel? She'd had enough fire for one day. She looked at the bard and hoped that she felt just as uncomfortable. Kylie shifted in place as she spoke. "Will you tell us about them." She knew she was overstepping her bounds with their current deaths, but she needed to hear Gorn's sincerity. Her yearning to hear about something not involving death and despair overtook her. She missed her own family deeply. "Your tribe, your family. What were they like?" Her eyes stared into him. "That's what all of this is for after all, isn't it? The fighting, the cause. It's one worth dying for to all of you."
For a moment Kylie forgot where she was. In this cold, dank passage. She wanted out. She was almost grateful for the odd elf and his mysterious flame. She still eyed him with caution and stuck close to the gnomes.
"Let's get out of here. Lead the way." She spoke to Hawthorn this time.

"We can speak when we are out of this accursed tomb. It is not natural for man to be underground," Gorn says to Kylie.

"Lead on elfman, just take us out of here."

Hawthorne takes the western corridor, and beckons the group to follow. Ahead, he can see only more winding corridors, as his light illuminates a small part of the way. The scenery does not change much as the party continues along the winding corridor. However, the smell seems to intensify and grow as the group moves forward. Eventually Hawthorn notices a large room ahead, with the sound of running water. The smell permeates every inch of the room, and the torch shows the back wall of the room and what seems to be flowing water coming in from one side, with a reservoir in the middle, and flowing water leaving the reservoir on the other. The walls of the room stretch too high for the light to reach. From what you can see, the walls have many holes and crevices from decomposition.

For a moment you think that this may be a dead end, but as the light dances along the walls, you see what looks like a ladder built into the back wall across the room.

Besides the running water, the dripping, and the stench, the room empty as far as the eye can see.

Approaching the room Hawthorn thinks to himself..well.. what is that stinky stank.. did Xevar break wind yet again? mhm.. searching his wealth of knowledge he tries to place it..

He whispers back to Gorn, "There seems to be an exit over there, but I don't trust this open space.. and I wouldn't be surprised that whoever has the ladder coming down might have an alarm or two to forewarn.. not to mention what is making that stench or what it might be covering up.".. (he glares at the giant lizard just in case)

Drawing his bow he waits to see what those more suited for the heavy mantel of leadership might do..

For "the" stench and formation of the acloves, was it simple nature or did something help it along..does it look like anything might have been hiding in there or still might be..

Moving his companions aside, Cornua moves back into the hallway before getting a running start. With a mighty leap, the minotaur flies over the murky water and lands directly in front of the ladder. The barmaid gives a cheer as she sees the minotaur jump across.

No sooner does Cornua clear the water does Hawthorn see movement above. All of a sudden a deluge of rats fall from the ceiling, two groups on the ledges with the group is near, and one next to Cornua. The barmaid gives a shrill cry, "RATS!"

The rats move in waves, but seem to stay within the three groups, seemingly controlled by some higher power. A hissing voice can be heard reverberating off the walls, "who dare disturbs the rat king!"

Jump check: With running start - 32/5 = 6 squares, cleared, but barely!

Kylie, quick on her feet shoots at the only group of rats she can see as they fall down in the passageway in front of her. The blast hits a couple rats and they fly into the water; many rats still remain in the swarm, however.

Hawthorn, seeing the rats descend, quickly jumps back as he unleashes an arrow at the rats nearest Cornua. The arrow harmlessly enters the mass of rats, somehow going in between the small creatures. The elf gracefully runs along the ledge and flips over the smaller jump as he reaches Cornua's side.

Lili easily takes control of the rat swarms will and turns the rats against each other for a split moment. The little creatures in front of the hallway begin to claw and bite at each other, diminishing their swarm slightly.

Lili convinces the rats in the swarm to attack each other for 8 damage.

Xevar steps to the entrance of the tunnel and lets loose a mighty fire breath, engulfing the rats directly in front of him. The attack hits the swarm in front of him, and with no where to go the rats take a massive blow, the blast seemingly affects them more than the single attacks of blades and arrows. Gorn dodges out of the way, back against the wall, he calls out in anger at Xevar, "watch it lizard brains!". The remaining swarm that would be caught in the blast seems to dodge it completely.

Xevar brings down his sword, but the swift rats all move out of the way, and he only meets the stone beneath him.

Xevar has bloodied the rats in H9 and dealt 4+10 damage.

Cornua brings down his axe and manages to kill one of the rats. It seems as if traditional single combat weapons do not have a great effect on the mass of rats.

Gorn curses something about vermin and brings down his greataxe on top of the swarm next to him, and while he hits a few, he doesn't seem to make a dent in their numbers.

In response to his attack, the rats in front of him begin to surge around him, but he is able to scare them off with a quick swing. Distracted by the rats in front of him, however, the swarm behind him manages to climb and claw up his back, scratching in several places. Gorn screams out in anger. As the swarm behind Gorn surges around him, it also moves towards Xevar, but they cannot seem to find any weak points in his armor to bite through.

Meanwhile, across the room, the massive group of rats in front of Cornua start to climb about him, but he manages to shake them off before any real damage could be done.

A shrill cry can be heard from above, "face my wrath intrudersss!"

Several more cries ring out as four figures climb down the walls with great dexterity. They can only be described as some failed experiment, some parts of their bodies grotesquely mutated to look like rats, while other parts remaining the same as a human. Wearing leather armor in some parts and armed with various daggers, short swords, and even morning stars, they descend upon the party members in the room.

As one lands behind Cornua, and bites him from behind, teeth cutting through armor as it reaches the flesh underneath. Cornua feels the slime and filth from the rats mouth coat his skin. The ratman unlatches quickly and raises his morningstar.

Cornua, you are now poisoned. Please roll a saving throw at the end of your next turn.

A similarly armed ratman drops next to Hawthorn, and the surprised elf is unable to dodge a vicious bite, and the maw of the rat takes a hunk out of Hawthorn's side. Remnants of whatever the ratman last ate are left in the new teeth marks on the elf's body.

You are now poisoned, please make a saving throw at the end of your next turn.

A rat-thing with a short sword drops near Gorn, behind the swarm of rats. Muttering some incantation, the ratman's eyes glow yellow as he gazes at Gorn. As Gorn's head turns to meet his new foe, his body all of a suddenly goes limp and slumps against the wall next to him. Gorn lets out what can only be described as a loud snore.

Another rat man swings down near Xevar and lashes out with a bite, only for his face to meet a raised shield.

In a desperate bid to save the dying Gorn, Lili makes a powerful assault upon the mind of the filthy ratman stabbing him, forcing him to attack the distant vermin.

This is my chance, please don't fail me now!

Standard Action: Betrayal (Augment 2)
Target: Ratman in H10
Secondary Target: rats in H12
Attack:[roll0] vs Will
Effect: You slide the target a number of squares equal to your Cha modifier (+3) to a square adjacent to an enemy. (Move the ratman to G12) The target then makes a melee basic attack as a free action against that enemy, with a bonus to the attack roll and the damage roll equal to my Cha modifier (+3). The target is also dazed until the end of your next turn.

Hawthorn, will the help of Cornua's mark, unleashes a barrage of arrows that both find their quarry. The force of the arrows hits the ratman's back and he is flung forward into Cornua before falling to the ground.

Hawthorn with a stunning 44 damage kills the ratman!

Lili points her orb of power at the ratman stabbing Gorn and takes over his mind, moving him to the south to attack his allies. As he steps over the rat swarm he makes a swift attack, claiming the lives of several of his master's pets.

Lili moves her target to G12 and does 4 damage to the ratswarm nearest that square.

Ella moves forward and strums a beautiful chord, as it travels to Gorn and reaches his ears, his wounds close a bit from the arcane melody. Turning to the ratman that Lili manipulated, she lets loose a discordant tune, confusing and manipulating the beast.

Ella heals Gorn for 14. ella does 8 damage against ratman that was specified and the thing is marked by Xevar.

Kylie moves forward into the room with her companions and casts an eldrich spell. Purple rain begins to fall around the rat-people in the north east of the room. The swarm, given their size avoids the rain, but the ratman is caught under its downpour.

Kylie hits h7 for 15 damage.

Cornua yells words of encouragement to Gorn, words laced with command. At the sound of the words, Gorn bandages himself quickly and staunches the bleeding a bit.

Cornua then launches his hammer at the ratman to the north of Gorn, and hits him square in the shoulder.

Cornua tries to shake off the poison, but is unable.

Cornua does 8 damage to h7.

Xevar moves towards Gorn and divine power bursts from Xevar's hands healing Gorn's wounds even further. Helping Gorn bandage his cuts, Xevar allows Gorn a moment's respite.

The rats near Cornua once again try to attack him, but he is able to fend them off for the time being.

The ratswarm to the northeast of the room climbs on the wall and carefully moves closer towards the group.

Seeing his enemies multiply as they come out of the hallway, the ratman closest to Gorn lets out a vicious squeal, piercing the ears of all nearby adventurers. Gorn, Kylie, Ella, and Lili seem unaffected. However, Xevar clutches his ears and falls to the ground.

Xevar takes 4 damage and is prone.

The ratswarm to the south of Ella begins to move about her, but she deftly dodges the multitude of attacks.

Next to Vorrg, the ratman, turns quickly and stabs the shifter in the stomach twice.

Vorrg takes 9 damage.

Hawthorn peers across the water at one of the wererats and quickly lets loose a special arrow stored in his quiver. The arrow flies swiftly across the water, and as it hits the wererat, it splinters into pieces, piercing several places. The wererat curses in an unknown squeal and fumbles about, clearly disoriented.

Hawthorn hits in H7 for 15 damage. The target is now bloodied.

Knowledge Nature: The term brushing teeth is unknown to Hawthorn. Clearly Hawthorn is going slightly insane.

Kylie, takes one step back and aims her wand at the wererat nearest Xevar. A magical blast consumes the wererat. As the wererat screams the eldrich fire completely consumes the form, disintegrating it from existence.

Kylie hits for 18 damage and kills the wererat in H7!

The rat swarm nearest Cornua responds to Lili's command, clawing and biting at each other.

Lili hits B8 for 10 damage.

Xevar rushes over the healthier Gorn and attempts to strike the rats in front of him, missing completely, the radiant light on his sword dissipating harmlessly.

Xevar misses. Not only because the wererat is dead, but because the roll.

Cornua brings down a his axe, only to find air as the rats quickly dodge his assault.

Cornua misses.

As the battle rages on, and Kylie disintegrates another wererat, your minds are filled with a horrible voice, "no one will control us! Doom upon the street dwellers!".

The adventurers look up in horror, as a grotesque being slowly lowers itself from the ceiling above. Thousands of rats all melded together in a ball of fur and feces hangs above you like a grotesque chandelier. Several wererats are molded in with the group, human and hybrid shapes, a look of constant pain and horror on their un-moving faces. A shrill cry reverberates off the shaking walls as all of the pained figures screams at once. As this happens, the great form begins to shake, and a phsycic blast engulfs the whole chamber.

Enters the rat king!

Cornua, Hawthorn and Gorn resist the psionic blast. The other adventurers are not so lucky. Those hit in the party experience a massive mental assault, pain wracking their bodies as they fall prone. Valerna grabs her head and screams in horror. All of sudden, her eyes bulge as her skull expands, exploding like an overgrown watermelon. Her limp figure falls to the ground.

Vorrg, Ella and Xevar are now all bloodied. All adventurers hit with the attack are thrown back 3 squares (if possible), and are now prone.

Seeing their king arrive, the rats surge forward as if by command. The rat swarm nearest Cornua moves in to engage, clawing and raking his legs.

Cornua takes 9 damage, plus 3 damage from ongoing poison. Please make a saving throw on your next turn.

The wererat nearest Vorrg jumps towards him and bites at his neck, drawing copious amounts of blood.

Vorrg is hit for 7 damage.

As the pain engulfs him, Vorrg roars in fury, transforming into a more feral self. Dropping his warhammer, he reaches out with elongated claws at the wererat. The attack viciously rips through the wererats chest.

Gorn, seeing the horror in front of him, lets out a loud yell, stands, and spins his greatsword deftly around Xevar, aiming at all the enemies around him. His greatsword cuts through the swarm to the south of him, sweeping the remaining rats into the current below. The rat swarm to the north of him takes a massive strike, as they appear severely weakened. Finally, the rat king takes a mighty slash from Gorn, and reels backwards in pain, swinging to and fro from the assault.

Gorn kills ratswarm in H9, bloodies ratswarm in H7 and hits the rat king.

In retaliation, the bloodied ratswarm seethes forward to both Xevar and Gorn. Xevar is able to fend them off with his shield, but Gorn is exposed from his attack, and is bitten and clawed several times.

Gorn laughs maniacally and screams, "The chieftain of Clan Denari will not die here to the likes of you!"

Hawthorne unleashes several volleys at Cornua's command, some find their quarry within the rat swarm, but some miss.

Hawthorn hits for 14 damage.
I noticed your equation in the excel was broken. You are actually bloodied. I'm not sure how it broke, but it looks like someone manually inputted a value. (Maybe me by mistake, no idea).

Hawthorn takes a bear trap from his pack and throws it towards the rat king. As it hit, it clamps shut around one of the lower rats and cuts through flesh.

Hawthorn hits for 25 damage. Rat King is also slowed.

Kylie rears back her wand and spins it several times around her head, forming a vortex of purple flames. As she unleashes the flames they travel towards the rat king, hitting, and setting the beast on fire.

The rat swarm nearest Cornua advances towards him with menacing squeals. Cornua is able to beat them off of him before they do any real damage.

Also, Cornua is no longer taking ongoing damage because of your save.

The rat swarm near Gorn and Xevar attack once more. Gorn, protecting Xevar while he is prone, swings his greatsword batting the rats away.

Locked in a fierce battle, the remaining wererat feints with his left fist, while his right hand, holding a dagger, slides under Vorrg's leather armor biting deeply. Vorrg pulls back, blood seeping from the wound.

Vorrg takes 10 damage and is very bloodied.

As flames lick around the rat king from Kylie's fire, the form begins to shake and two rats are thrown out of the group towards Gorn and Xevar. Xevar raises his arm in defense and the rat bounces off his armor. Gorn, however, is not as quick, and the rat latches onto his head, clawing and biting for some unseen purpose. The flames go out around the rat king, but the self imposed monarch seems to be severely damaged from the fire.

Gorn takes 2 whole damage!

The rat king is now bloodied!

Seeing the tide of battle turn, the rat king swiftly attacks again. Two more rats fly from its form, one landing on Xevar's head, clawing and ripping Xevar's exposed flesh. The other towards Hawthorn, but the elf steps quickly out of the way.

Xevar takes 7 damage, and has 5 ongoing damage. Please make a saving throw next turn.

Gorn, plagued by a feral rat on his head, swings his great sword at the rat king, hitting brutally.

Gorn hits for 9 damage.

Vorrg lets out a feral roar, and his wounds begin to close by some primal power, slightly staunching the bleeding.

Vorrg uses a healing surge. Vorrg also uses Longtooth shifting and gets regen 2 and +2 to defenses.
