Question: Oracle Spells gained from Curses

Are they still considered arcane spells even though an Oracle is a divine caster and thus they are affected by spell failure chance? I can't seem to find any answers involving this.

I go with the spells are Divine. It sounds logical, but it's hard to find a clear ruling.

The roundabout way says:

An oracle casts divine spells drawn from the cleric spell lists.

And by recent FAQ (http://paizo.com/paizo/faq/v5748nruor1fm#v5748eaic9s54) when you get Spells Known from a Class Feature, you also add those spells to that Class's Spell List.

But before that FAQ it would have been a lot more vague.

Edit: Also important to known, whether a spell is Arcane or Divine is decided by class. See the Arcane (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic#TOC-Arcane-Spells) and Divine (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic#TOC-Divine-Spells) descriptions. The no mention of oracle shouldn't matter because they cast like clerics, only spontaneously. I guess thats the old and more solid answer, not relying on recent FAQs anyways. :smalltongue:

All spells cast by a Divine spellcaster are Divine. Therefore they are not subject to Arcane Spell Failure. Spells from mysteries, curses and domains are added to your spell list and therefore are divine.

Only Arcane caster are subject to ASF.


Armor interferes with the gestures that a spellcaster must make to cast an arcane spell that has a somatic component. Arcane spellcasters face the possibility of arcane spell failure if they're wearing armor.

No, because they are tied to the Mystery Class Feature (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/oracle#TOC-Mystery), which does not get advanced by Mystic Theurge. Mystic Theurge only advanced the basic Spells Class Feature (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/oracle#TOC-Spells). (Because of that, you do get the bonus Cure or Inflict spells.)
