View Full Version : Player Help Point Buy Help Please, Ogre Cleric evil necromancer

Looking to play a straight Ogre Cleric who's focused on raising undead. Here's a pic for inspiration. (http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/242/5/a/hero_knight_by_rusty001-d2xnzwg.jpg)
Will also be using this homebrew variant Forgeborn Warforged template. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?366427-Warforged-Template-%28and-variants%29) (Woeforged)

Level 8, 36 point buy.

I'm unsure what stats to put what points into, both mathematically and power-wise. Mostly asking for help with the math here but also with keeping him powerful enough to be of use.
Additionally, how much LA can be bought off by lvl 8? Not that it'll help much with this character. I'm pretty sure LA buyoff isn't allowed for this particular game.

As far as buyoff, you could have had 1 point bought off if your starting LA was +1 or +2. If it was +3 or higher, none.

Second, I recommend using the Half Ogre from Races of Destiny. It doesn't have to deal with RHD, and it's only 2 LA.

I'm actually considering using one as well, with Warblade and Warforged.

If power is your concern, riddle me this batman. How is all this better than just 3 levels of Cleric? If you just want flavor, ask your DM to refluff you character, with no mechanical changes.

This post from our DM (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=17959124&postcount=32) makes me think LA Buyoff is off the table. I did post asking for clarification though.

Good suggestion with he Half-Ogre. Same taste, less filling.
Point Buy advice still more than welcome.

Well Robin, all this is flavorful and doesn't bug the DM with petty requests. That and the challenge of making it work can be its own reward.
