((Preparation might as well be all at once, I see little point to making sure it goes in order by rounds. If someone uses a multi-person buff that might affect another player's preparation we can go back and change it then.

Hawkeye has already posted his non-preparation. Once the rest of you post your three rounds (even if you do nothing, you have to state it), then you can start exploring the maze in initiative order.

Edit: Hawkeye and Exachix, your tie is resolved by Exachix having a higher modifier. Initiative order is Jack, Mitsuya, Hawkeye, Caleb, monsters.))

Round 2
While Mitsuya and Hawkeye hook up and stay close together, Jack and Caleb continue scouting ahead. When the enemy finally shows its face, only Caleb is in a position to find out exactly why this is called the Slaughter round. A single gnoll peeks out around a corner from Y9 and promptly ducks back. There might be more behind him, but they're out of sight and Caleb doesn't have the ears to tell.

Caleb's mighty strike slices the gnoll clean in half vertically. The eye on each half blinks once as each disconnected half of the creature's brain tries to comprehend what just happened before it topples, each half going a different way. ((You did more than four times its hp in damage.))

The remaining gnolls stream out, their fearful expressions making it obvious they would prefer to retreat if that were at all possible. Too bad for them, they know their only way out is through their foes.

Two of them move up and attack Caleb with their battleaxes while the other two hang back a short distance in the narrow hall and try to shoot past their fellows with their shortbows. One axe manages to tap his armor lightly and one of the arrows skips off the shoulder, but Caleb's full plate easily shrugs off the minor impacts.

((Yes, you are. Gnolls have a move speed of 30 and the farthest any of them had to go to reach those positions was 25. The ones in W11 and X11 attacked you with battleaxes and the other two with shortbows.))

Jack moves to 15ft above the ground (20ft of movement) and then moves to X12. He then uses his Fiery Burst reserve feat to center a blast of fire between the two gnolles in W8 and X8.

A miniature fireball detonates at Vael's gaze from his new vantage point directly above Caleb, and both gnolls caught in it drop their bows and fall to the ground, badly burned. They aren't quite dead yet, but they won't be getting up on their own any time soon.

((No sneak attack but it doesn't really matter. Also, just for future reference because you have plenty of overkill now, not all of your +11 damage is precision-based. The +1 enhancement bonus, +2 strength bonus, and +2 from Weapon Spec. all apply regardless of range so you get them on each arrow in a Manyshot. The +6 from dex and Sharpshooter might or might not also apply to all three arrows depending on the actual text, which I can't find. Where did you get that feat from? The +1 from Point Blank Shot that you apparently forgot is precision-based, however, so that would apply to only one arrow.))

Hawkeye's three arrows blast into the gnoll's head, killing it instantly. The corpse jerks a few times on its way down, but soon comes to rest on the floor with a very blackened face.

You are all mysteriously transported to a new arena. Heat causes occasional shimmers in the air over the flat featureless desert you now gaze across.

Once again, you start in the red area. You have one round to prepare, and each of you may choose to take an 8 hour side trip to a plane where time passes much faster, gaining a full night's rest in an instant. If you choose to rest now, that option will be unavailable to you later.

State your starting position and preparation round actions. Initiative does not change and durations continue to count down. Once the preparation round is over, the monster(s) will appear.

((Ok. I don't have an Iron Kingdoms rulebook available right now, so I'll just go with what's in your notes for the moment.

As far as I know there's no official clear general ruling on what is precision based and what isn't. The only example I know of off the top of my head that definitely is officially precision damage is sneak attack, and I generally extrapolate from that and sneak attack's range limit (plus common sense about the difficulty of precision at a distance) that any damage bonus that is limited by range independent of the weapon's range is precision damage. So, sneak attack only works within 30 feet so it's precision-based; same with point blank shot; strength, enhancement, and weapon specialization bonuses work at any distance so they are not. Whether Sharpshooter's bonus is precision-based depends on whether it only applies against targets within a certain range.))

Three member of the party advance at speed on the venomous creature while Hawkeye remains stationary and pummels it with arrows from afar. The third arrow glances off the outsized bug's carapace, but the second buries itself deep in a vulnerable joint and the other two also pierce its thick shell though not nearly so well.

The gargantuan scorpion, easily identifiable now, hisses in pain and anger and charges blindly at the nearest threat. One claw lashes out and catches Caleb in its grip, and his full plate armor does nothing to soften the blow. The monster easily picks up its target and continues to squeeze, attempting to crush Caleb with its strength.

((The closest I can find to RAW about the space taken up by grappling opponents of different sizes is that normally the one that started it moves into the other's space, and with Improved Grab (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#improvedGrab) the grappler pulls the target into his space. I interpret this to mean that the character's spaces become the same regardless of their relative sizes, just as a mounted character occupies the entire space of his mount despite being smaller. This interpretation is backed up by this Rules of the Game (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20050301a) article. Any area attack that hits either grappler hits both.

Oh, and Hawkeye, in case you didn't realize it, each of your arrows has a 50% chance of hitting Caleb instead of the scorpion as long as the grapple continues. Improved Precise Shot (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#improvedPreciseShot) negates this, but you don't have that.

That's the rules. As for the fluff behind them, the scorpion could be waving Caleb around, instinctively holding him up as a shield against incoming attacks.

Hawkeye closes the distance, preferring not to risk Caleb being interposed in front of his arrows in the struggle.

Caleb successfully concentrates to use the power of his mind despite the distraction and easily touches his foe. A rush of psionic power flows into the scorpion, attempting to transfer his aches and pains to the vermin, only to find that the monster has nothing so complex as what is usually referred to by the word "mind". It's motivating force is simply too simple for such a trick to work, and the transfer fails utterly.

The scorpion turns most of its attention to the annoying fly that stung it a moment ago, holding Caleb only with the one claw, and swipes at Jack with both a claw and its poisonous stinger. Both attacks miss, deflected by Jack's protective spells. The claw still holding Caleb tries to crush the half-giant in half, but his bulk had shifted by chance to perfectly position his armor for the best possible resistance to the pincer.

Jack's new set of five missiles slams into the scorpion, and it staggers under the impact. The giant bug continues to sway drunkenly for another second or two, then falls over and releases its hold on Caleb. Insect blood trickles out of the various arrow wounds. It is obviously dying.

((All other actions may be changed in light of this. You have until the end of the round before the next arena transition, which will be followed by another 1-round preparation. You may specify both rounds' (except for Jack who already acted this round) actions at once if you like, along with your new starting position, but I haven't picked the next arena or rolled for the monster selection yet.

Caleb: Skill checks do not automatically fail on 1's. That only happens for saves and attacks. Also, you've been forgetting to add the power's level to the concentration DC, and failing that check would mean you lose the power (power points spent, but no effect), not you take an AoO. Not that any of this matters at the moment because the scorpion died (technically only at -5 hp, but close enough) before your turn.

Exachix, the chance to hit the wrong grappler is only for ranged attacks. You'd have to roll for which one you hit if you were using Reach Spell metamagic, but not for a melee touch.

BTW, if bonus energy damage dice were multiplied on crits, Hawkeye would have reduced it to -9 with his first volley before it even got to move.))

A jagged blue line splits the air between Jack and one of the birds with a loud crack, passing a few feet over the winged monstrosity's head as it ducks slightly. A small fork breaks off the main line to zap it anyway, but it takes little notice.
Mitsuya continues to save most of her resources for later.
Hawkeye's volley of arrows slams into the same target as Jack's lightning, all four of them finding a mark. The enormous creature screams in pain and anger and focuses its eyes on the powerful archer.
Caleb advances and concentrates his psychic power into seeing glimpses of the future.

The huge pair scream a deafening battle cry in unison and dive at their nearest foes, the most hated one being too far away to snatch on the first pass. One talon scrapes off Caleb's armor, earning him a slightly confused glare from the somewhat scorched bird as it tries to spot what deflected its blow from what had seemed an easy hit. Jack is not so lucky. The unhurt bird slams into him at high speed, leaving a nasty set of scratches, and tries to pick him up.

Caleb suddenly triples in size and steps back a little.

The remaining monster, enraged by the death of its mate, flies at the one responsible, heedless of any threats on the way, and attempts to snatch him up to crush in its mighty talons, but between his dodging and his armor the attempt fails.

Hawkeye is lifted off his feet before he can get a shot off and finds he doesn't have room to pull his bow back far enough to shoot anything from where he is now.
Caleb backs off quickly and charges the monster. His sword sinks deep before he pulls it back out. The winged beast is obviously badly hurt, but still refuses to succumb to its injuries.

The bird has no desire to tangle in its current condition with someone capable of dishing out blows as powerful as Caleb's, especially when it can just stay out of reach. Squeezing Hawkeye with the one talon, it flies in a tight upward spiral at Jack's airborn threat, lashing out with the unoccupied talon. The blow hits hard, and Jack finds himself once again trying to fend off the grip of something far stronger than himself.

Edit2: On review of the vertical space and reach rules, including Rules of the Game articles, and flying movement for the appropriate maneuverability, all that changes is where the bird ends up and that it can't charge. The +2 bonus for charging didn't make a difference anyway, so nothing much changed.

He probably uses it all the time, and he is a sorcerer who has innate powers, knowing them pretty well. I have only used it once. Now, in fact. I just didn't read over it carefully enough.

Caleb's parting slash elicits a pained squawk from the creature. It is clearly on its last legs (er, wings) as it struggles up to grab Jack.

Jack escapes the bird's talon again, this time taking extra precaution to avoid being grabbed a third time.
Mitsuya is still conserving her resources.
Hawkeye tries to pry the bird's talon open so he can escape, but its grip is too strong.
Caleb glares at the foe he can no longer reach.

The great bird, fearing for its life, starts fleeing back the way it came. Hawkeye comes along for the ride and finds the other talon joining in the attempts to gain revenge.

Caleb charges through the air at a steep angle, crashing into the Roc from below with a viscious strike that severs a wing. The four ton corpse proceeds to crash into the sand, creating a sizable crater. Crater and corpse alike disappear as the stage is reset for the next battle.

The enemy finally shows itself, burrowing out from the sand in front of Hawkeye. A gigantic snake-like creature with purple scales erupts from the ground and attempts to bite Hawkeye. Jack's orb of force strikes the creature, and it recoils, but then swims closer, ending beneath another one of the shadowed walkways, but as it passes through the light you catch the glint of light off leaden gray skin. You feel an irrational, overpowering fear of the water and of the creatures that dwell in it.

Then the creature begins singing in a way eerily reminiscent of whalesong, but ineffably different, twisted in some fashion you can neither identify nor describe. Caleb, upon hearing this song, feels a growing sense of empathy for the creature.

Swims to OP10-11, everyone make a DC 22 Will save, and Caleb, make a second Will save against DC 20. The first save is a mind-affecting fear effect, the second is mind-affecting sonic.

You all shrug off the pressure gnawing at the edges of your minds as the singing goes on.

Jack's orb of force and Hawkeye's arrows impact the walkway they are standing on. Their combined force punches a hole through the walkway, but the potency of their attacks was expended on the wood of the walkway, and not much else happens.

Hawkeye, flying at 30ft, moves to H10 and manyshoots two arrows at the creature if it can be seen from that position without the walkways getting in the way ((I think some of the walkways were destroyed in a previous attack)).

If people higher up in the order would change my actions I'll edit.
