Hi there!

I'm trying to build a E6 character and I was hoping for some tips. I normally stick to making core-book non-spellcasters but I have this character concept I would like to try out.

The spymaster PC caught my eye as did the shadowdancer. Both seem to have what I want the character to capable of.

Disguise, undetectable alignment, shadow jumping, hiding..

I don't know if this sounds like a clear concept on paper.. Basically a infiltrator with some assassin qualities is what I'm looking for. Evil, Maybe a template or race.. but no more than a LA of 2

Does this trigger anything with anyone?

Cheers!

What comes to my mind immediately is a swordsage using shadow hand maneuvers.

I'm not sure about their viability to be a spy however, perhaps a dip in something like rogue or bard. Perhaps factotum.

Factotum 2 / Swordsage 2 / Factotum +1 / Assassin 1. Decent skills, take shadow hand manoeuvres for utility and some for extra damage. Take Kung Fu Genius or Carmendine Monk to get your AC bonus switched to Int and focus on Int and Dex as your main stats.

Edit: Go either Changeling (for disguise fun), Human for the feat or Grey Elf or Lesser Tiefling for the +2 int, +2 dex.
Use skills for disguise and hiding, manoeuvres for shadow jumping and an use an eternal wand of undetectable alignment with UMD.

I would recommend a Dark Template Human with levels of factotum4/Spellthief1/Chameleon1 or Rogue2/Hexblade1/Urban Ranger 2/Assassin 1 depending on how much "spying" you want vs "assassin qualities".

If you have played E6 before you understand the scope if not you may have to adjust your expectations given the list of abilities you want.

Have fun.

It's impossible to (legitimately) take Shadowdancer in E6, because it requires Hide 10 ranks so you have to reach 7th level before you even start taking it. If you want Hide in Plain Sight, get the Dark Creature template from Tome of Magic p161. It's only a +1 LA, so you'll have a 25 point buy instead of a 32 point buy, which is still doable, considering you'll get huge bonuses to Hide and Move Silently, among other benefits. Put that on a Whisper Gnome (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20040807a&page=3) and from race and size alone you'll get Hide +16, Move Silently +10 without even counting Dex. Get the feats Extra Silence and Silencing Strike in RoS. Definitely take the feat Darkstalker in LoM so opponents will still have to make a Spot or Listen check to notice you with scent, blindsight, tremorsense, and similar.

I'd definitely include a level of Spellthief in whatever class levels you take. That will allow you to use Wands of any Wizard spells from the schools of abjuration, divination, enchantment, illusion, and transmutation, even if you don't have Spellthief casting yet. One or more levels of Ranger will allow you to use Wands of Ranger spells, and this variant (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#ranger) from UA gets you Fast Movement if you're only going to take one level. Take the feat Hidden Talent from XPH p67 at 1st level for Chameleon (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/chameleon.htm) so you can use a Dorje (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/items/dorjes.htm) (psionic wand) of that, and get a Wand of Camouflage in SC which is a 1st level Ranger spell. Each of those costs 15 gp per charge, they're different bonus types so they'll stack, so for 30 gp worth of wand charges you'll get another +20 to Hide for ten minutes at a time. That's +36 to Hide without even considering any ranks or Dex bonus, you can always hide when not in daylight regardless of other conditions, and creatures with scent and blindsense and similar (guard dogs) still have to make that Spot check to notice you. Get Extra Silence and use that so their Listen checks will automatically fail, you can even Silencing Strike yourself with a punch for minimum nonlethal damage so it only affects you instead of an area.

I'd just go Spellthief 1/ Fast Movement Ranger 1/ Swordsage 4. Get two flaws (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/characterFlaws.htm) (more here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?258440-The-quot-Best-quot-Flaws#30)) for two extra feats, you'll definitely want Naturalized Denizen (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/spelltouchedFeats.htm#naturalizedDenizen) at 1st level since a Dark Creature is native to the Plane of Shadow. Consider getting an Elvencraft (Composite) Longbow from RotW once you take Ranger, which counts as both a quarterstaff and a bow. You'll need to get Masterwork three times for it, but you'll also be able to put three Wand Chambers from Dungeonscape into it. I'd put those two I already mentioned and a Wand of Wraithstrike (SC) in that, you'll be able to activate that due to your Spellthief level. You can snipe out your target with that, TWF with it as a quarterstaff, and you won't have to switch what you're holding to activate any of your wands.

My first thought was Master of Masks to get the whole undetectable alignment with the Nameless Mask. Swordsage for the teleport.
