Just curious, does the venomfire spell still do its caustic damage even if the subject passes the dc save for the poison, or only if they fail?

Also, please post your reasoning, and if you have a RAW example from the books, please cite. Thank you very much.

I would say it does. THey don't lose Con, but that burns. It says per use, not per damage or anything like that.

Venomfire does not in any way rely upon successfully poisoning the target.

Transmutation [Acid]
Level: Cleric 3, Druid 3, Ranger 4, Consecrated Harrier 4,
Components: V, M,
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Creature touched
Duration: 1 hour/level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)

You cause the subject's venom to become caustic, dealing an additional 1d6 points of acid damage per caster level with each use.
This spell has no effect on creatures that do not naturally produce poison.
Material Component: A drop of acid.

Venomfire explicitly says it does it's damage on each poison use, not on a failed save.

You won't find a rules clarification or an example, because requiring it to only work on a failed poison save would be an additional rule that's not stated. As written, it's very straightforward.

Do note that you still have to cause regular damage to your target for any poison effects including this rider effect. So if the target has sufficient damage reduction against your regular damage, the acid damage won't come into play. So, no, a passed save doesn't prevent the acid damage, but a subject that is otherwise immune to your regular attacks won't be bothered by a Venomfire-boosted attack either.

Venomfire is also a spell that can, quite easily, get very, very broken when put on the right creature...

Is there anything from Serpent Kingdoms that isn't broken? Remember, this is the same book that has Pun-Pun in it.
