the wind howls around your group as you make your way through the waste. you see a creature on the hill your small caravan is heading towards it looks back at you for a second then darts off over the ridge. night is hours away and you have little food left, barely enough to make it til tomorrow. water is scarce in this area and what little plants live here do little to quench your thirst. around midday you find a large rock that would provide ample cover for a campsite. as night falls you feel as if malevolent creatures are gradually moving closer to your encampment, something is driving them closer to you. perhaps its the smell of cooking meat, or maybe the scent of the blood stained on your clothes? somehow you don't feel as if any of those could be the answer.

you set up a watch to make sure that the camp is safe, however no one in the caravan seems to be able to sleep soundly. the rank smell of sweat and fear intertwine and concoct a stench that would even wake up the dead........ as that thought enters your minds, you remember the warden's last statement before he died of the many wounds caused by the rioting inmates. be careful af'er night falls and don't walk too far away from yer camp, lest ya want ta join the dead.

something howls not too far away from the caravan shortly after other howls are heard not too far behind it. everyone is on edge. your mind starts to recall the events from this morning. the crazed state of the rioters, nonlethal attacks seemed to do nothing to them, just cause them to go into a deeper frenzy.... the warden waded into the sea of inmates to save you few from them. it all seems so strange, your first day on the job and the inmates go nuts the warden is killed shortly after you escape with supplies trying to buy you some time. you cant help but see the warden in that instant his giant body being crawled on and clawed at by the inmates, all he does is smile at you and tell you to run as fast as you can and not to look back.

the night passes without event though you obviously feel like you are being watched. near sunrise screeches of pain can be heard and the sound of creatures running away can be heard in all directions, you see quick blurs of movement in the shadows running away from the sunlight. relief of seeing the sun seems to temporarily wash away your fatigue. you pack up and start to move again. it doesn't seem to be as hot as it was yesterday and the plant life seems to be growing steadily in number as you continue to travel south, about mid day you start to see the edge of the White-Scale mountains. on the horizon.

your progress is steadily getting slower for lack of sleep, you start to partially doze off while you continue to walk. you all fall over in exhaustion and start to go unconscious. the last thing you see before you pass out completely is a giant hand scooping you up from the ground and gazing into the face of what appears to be the warden but he doesn't have any wounds on him at all and this man didn't have the warden's well kept mustache. your mind goes blank after that. http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/darksun/darksun_fortress.jpg

you guys wake up in a room filled with cots. some of these cots are big enough to have a giant be able to lay on them comfortably. you see a large symbol of the church of Palor hanging on the far side of the wall. a dwarf appears to be praying in front of this statue acompanied by what appears to be a very young giant girl who seems to be quite anxious as she sways back and forth on her feet and looks at the room she notices that you all are starting to rise and she taps the dwarf's shoulder.
the dwarf looks over his shoulder at you and turns to regard you all. this is good news! ye all woke up a lot sooner 'n ah thought ye'd be. by yer get up I'm guessin' ye be the servivers o' sandtrap prison's riot. we got message from the side warden that some o' the staff were saved by the warden 'fore

Brock rolled onto his side with a soft groan, picking himself up and taking stock of his surroundings. He hadn't been expecting to see a cave, with huge beds all around him. The last thing he remembered was hitting the hot sand of the desert he and the others had escaped into. That riot had been something else; Seeing the Warden wade into combat like that, and just the multitude of escapees attacking him at once. He had none of his gear on him as far as he could tell, grumbling to himself at that fact. He checked his boots, glad that the daggers he managed to collect on his way out were still there.

He jumped in surprise at the Giantess in the room with them, seeing that she had been kneeling at a shrine moments before, and seemed genuinely worried about them. He spoke Giant, and could tell what she was saying behind her heavy accent, but decided to stay quiet for now and just observe. Not yet sure where he was and if this giantess was on the level or not.

Kaidacen came awake slowly, taking stock, remembering.

She had gone to the humanoid's city, to learn of this thing called "justice". She had seen members of their community sentenced to a "prison" for crimes she could barely comprehend. In order to understand more about "justice", she had taken a job at the prison in the wasteland. Well, the humanoids called it a wasteland - to her it was a place of stark, harsh, natural beauty.

Then the riot had happened; the inmates had rebelled against their justice, which was another strange thing. She had fled with some of the other employees of the prison. She could have abandoned them at any time, left them to suffer in the harshness of the wastes. She had chosen not too, instead using her magic and skills to aid in their journey. Even so, the choice to aid them had nearly proved fatal.

Which lead to... here. Wherever "here" was. There was a symbol representing one of the strange godfolk, and two races often at odds with each other. What did one say in these situations? Oh, yes...

"I thank you for your help."

Emerald Wyld has been stretching for a time, ignoring the others as he prepares his body for the day. Immediately observable is the fact that his body is covered in a leathery layer of pale green scales. Despite that, he is dressed simply in grey-white robes tied with a grey-brown cord. A glimpse beyond the robe leaves you with the impression of many scars upon his arms and legs. He carries no equipment, nor a backpack, and has no boots either. His hands and feet are covered with callouses, and his wild-looking hair is curled into what appears to be natural dreadlocks. His eyes are a brilliant green, and his scaly face is still reminiscent of the graceful and youthful look of an elf.

As Wyld stands up to finish his stretches, the giant speaks to the dwarf. He looks around at his...well, formerly fellow employees, noting that they are doing the same. It seems that his curiosity about humans led him here. A pity, really, that they were such savages: they raged at being held captive as much as any dragon but unlike those majestic beasts, they were summarily unsatisfied with just escape. They wanted power and control, to kill those that were different. Dragons wanted power and control, but were content there. Wyld had fought to escape when things turned bad. He wasn't sure his companions saw his true nature, though, due to the terrifying melée. They had barely escaped, despite all their ferocity.

Their few days surviving in the wilderness proved nearly as tough. Even Mayakami, his Vulture companion, was challenged to find food. They *had* survived, though, by the grace of these Sun-worshipping folk. He turns to the Dwarf, addressing him and speaking with a thick--and rough--Elven accent. Long shoulders. You not finish speaking. 'fore what?

Rudak stirred in his sleep, feeling quite hungry after the last few days traveling through the wasteland. So of course, he dreamed of food. The others that woke up before would find that his quiet snoring was occasionally interrupted by him mumbling or "mmm"ing or even smacking his lips some. Eventually, though, in his dream, he was going back to the big banquet table, like none he had ever actually gone to before, for another helping. Along the way, though, he tripped, so in the waking world, he jerked his leg trying to catch himself, jarring himself awake. He looked around blearily, wondering why the sun wasn't in his eyes. He knew it wasn't night because he wasn't freezing like he had been recently, so he jerked into a sitting position and looked around.

"Where in the abyss...?" he started, before catching sight of the kneeling dwarf and the giantess. He could tell she seemed young, but he knew a giant was a giant. He swallowed, his throat dry from days with little water, before looking for more familiar faces.

"Brick, was it? Where are we?" he asked in a loud whisper to the dwarf he recognized from working at the prison. He didn't mean any offense, he was just terrible at remembering names. He looked around himself, taking stock to see if he still had any of his gear he'd fled the prison with.

Mikkafen had been awake for a while remaining motionless on his cot while he tried to piece the incoherent images of the past few days in his mind together, in truth he has little memory of why he had been at the prison that was in the majority of the images, its unlikely he was a prisoner given he had his belongings and even less likely he had been a guard given his stature. Every time he thought he was close to figuring it out it all seemed to unravel away into nothingness, no matter he thought there would be time to dwell on these matters later for now it was a matter of survival, so as he heard the others stirring he continued to remain motionless and instead focused his hearing and brief squints through his eyes to get a better feel for the room and what was going on.

Wyld takes in what the dwarf said. Warden killed by armed swarm fighting with lust for death. He pauses for a second, and turns to the drake. Wyld and May Indicating his Vulture animal companion eat pigeon for food. Why not make pigeon meal?

"Brock." He replied flatly, simply observing things happening around them. "And it looks like we've been saved from dying in the desert." He was a trained hunter and trapper, speaking with actions more than words. While he had worked with this little group to escape, it had been an end to a mean. If he watched out for just himself, then he may have not escaped, or taken someone who didn't deserve a harsh end with him.

When the scaly creature walked in, speaking Common, he had to raised his eyebrows in surprise. He hadn't been expecting such a creature to speak that... fluently. At the offer of showing them around, he was curious to see the rest of this place. It wouldn't hurt to know the layout of this place, and get an idea of where it was. He slid out of bed and followed after the drake, feeling well enough to move around on his own despite the near sun-baked death.

Kaidacen climbs out of the cot and moves over to follow after the drake, stretching to loosen muscles that have grown tight from lying too long abed as she goes.

"Greetings. I am Kaidacen. I could speak with the pigeons on your behalf tomorrow if you would like; though I suspect it will do little good. Pigeons are not particularly obedient, or intelligent."

She nods in the direction of Emerald Wyld. "The suggestion has merit. If the pigeons are too numerous, then some of them being preyed upon will reduce numbers and discourage others from roosting in this locale. All things must die, and the vulture must eat; by preying on the slower and weaker pigeons it will be serving natures' purpose. I will assess the situation once you have shown us around this... temple?"

"Oh. Um...sorry..." said the half-orc, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment. He hoped the dwarf didn't take offense at that. Rudak knew it was kind of bad of him, but he focused his attention more on the dwarf because he seemed more normal than the scaled elf and whatever Kaidacen was. Some creature he had never seen before working at the prison, but she seemed to speak better than the elf. He turned his attention from them over to where the kneeling dwarf was speaking and started when he saw a talking dragon-thing. When the beast, Cringe, as the dwarf called it, told them all to follow it, Rudak looked to the others and saw what they would do, then fell into step beside Brock. He tried not to, but he kept staring at the druid, studying her features and wondering where she came from. He had done a bit of travel ever since leaving the town of his birth, but many things were still new to him. And she was one such thing.

At the mention of eating the pigeons, he felt his stomach rumble a bit. Not that he was really enthusiastic about eating pigeon, but he was rather hungry. He blushed a little at how loud the sound was, sure everyone could hear it. "I could probably eat a dozen pigeons right now," he said quietly through the side of his mouth to Brock, one large hand rubbing his stomach.

"Keep your hunger to yourself. At least until they offer us a meal." Brock murmured back. The half-orc might notice that this Dwarf didn't have much of a Dwarven accent. He sounded fairly articulate in his speech. He was intently observing the temple around them, building a map in his mind and making notes of anything that seemed important. As they walked, he asked Cringe from the back, "Cringe, right? While I'm glad you saved our asses from a slow, hot death, I imagine you have ideas in mind for us. Most likely, how you intend to request our help working around the temple. If I had to guess."

Wyld takes in the conversation, satisfied that his suggestion is popular. He looks at the other two that haven't moved, and notices that one is breathing like someone awake. They were still waiting. For what, he didn't kno. They would act when they were hungry enough.

"The suggestion has merit. If the pigeons are too numerous, then some of them being preyed upon will reduce numbers and discourage others from roosting in this locale. All things must die, and the vulture must eat; by preying on the slower and weaker pigeons it will be serving natures' purpose. Wyld notices the orcish one rubbing his stomach, and smiles. His suggestion not only had merit, it was popular as well, at least with the orc and the druid. Kaidke- kaidac- Kayydi- Wyld furrows his brow. Big words weren't his strong suit, unfortunately. Even this palaver waxed long for his taste. As he opened his mouth to speak, his stomach growled as well. Pausing momentarily to let his body settle, he continued, ...Tree-woman right. Pigeons are flying rabbits. They feed and make babies. If too many, we feast. He paused, getting the sense that he was beating a horse that may not be able to eat, and settled for looking around the place they were walking.

Having that overwhelming feeling that he was being observed and from what has heard of the conversation so far that there seem to be little obvious threat to his own well being. Mikkafen stretched his small and wiry frame as if just rousing from sleep. "Teeth of the gods! You lot need to keep it down can't you see I was trying to sleep on this relatively comfy cot, but since you can't seem to help yourselves i would guess that a bite to eat might be as good a reason as any to get off this cot."

Sitting up right with his feet dangling over the side of the cot the gnome who had introduced himself during their trek through the sands as Mikkafen, nimbly hopped down of the cot and looked about for his pack. "Now where might I be finding my pack?"

He approaches the dwarf and strikes up a conversation despite his apparent unease around the dragonborn. In my land, our tribe knows of dwarves as enemy of orc and gnoll. You are free from hatred. You treat this one indicating the half-orc, without being insulting As friend. Your tribe different, or just you different? Kaidacen bows her head respectfully to the drake, and replies in the secret tongue known only to Druids and a select few.

"Your secrets are your own, and you know me not. I will respect this."

The green-skinned fey then continues speaking in Common.

"I thank you for the warning of the presence of the assassin vine - now I know that it is here, I will avoid it until you decide I am trustworthy enough to know what it guards." She pauses a moment in thought, before speaking again. "You mention many tribes of ogres - do they still trouble your community? If they grow too numerous, perhaps they need to be tended to." Kaidacen glances at the others in the group. "I do not presume to speak in the place of others, but perhaps we could discourage the ogres from causing your town grief, as way of thanks for our rescue?"

He raised a confused eyebrow at the Wood Elf. He felt it odd he had to point out that the Half-Orc traveling with them was an ally and not an enemy. He really must've been from the deep wilds, if he was making such a comment to him. Cracking his neck, he replied gruffly, "They're still our enemies, to be sure. But only ones that we know attack and kill us. Him?" He nods to the half-orc as well. "Escaped with us, and helped us escape. Wyld's stomach growls audibly, and without another word he nods to the dwarf--what he said made sense, and was glad to see this dwarf was levelheaded--and travels to the area to eat.

He and May enter the hall and is entirely astounded. Never before has there been so much plenty in his life. Upon being given a tray--a strange object for him, and he quickly realizes he can take two--he loads them up with all manner of foods they have, save for the breads. There are several moments of frustration and chagrin when the primitive humanoid tries to grab into bowls of greens or fruits, when he dips his fingers in sauces, and is rebuked by the servers.

May is barely able to contain her appetite, and after a time she starts eating the meats off of her tray as he continues serving himself. Soon after, however, the elf is firmly asked to allow his animal to eat outside. By this time his tray is perilously laden with fruits and vegetables and nuts, a few cheeses and grains, and from her own tray, the vulture eats meats and tendons-alike with frightening efficiency. Nearly causing a fight, but unwilling to let go of his food, the elf is finally ushered outside and left to his own (and his animal's own) meal.

Wyld takes his time in eating, allowing time for others to approach him and strike up conversation if they so desire.

Upon the mention of food, Brock made a similar, if only slightly more dignified, beeline for the cafeteria. Taking a tray for himself, he grabbed largely the hearty breads, meats and fruit, along with a nice tankard of the local brew. Simply called 'Desert Ale'. His tray laden with food, he decides to step out onto the balcony area where he had seen the Wood Elf go, somewhat surprised to see him speaking to someone already. An ancient-look Dwarf at that. Figuring he'd give the two some privacy, he took up a spot on the other edge of this open area, digging into the bread and cheese first, and washing it all down with the surprisingly spicy Desert Ale.

Kaidacen bows her head in thanks to the drake, and follows the others into the cafeteria. The notion of a common food-serving area was completely foreign to her until she came to the so-called 'civilized' towns and cities. She observes the actions of some of the fellow rescued group, before following their lead and selecting her fare. The young fey woman selects only fresh fruits, vegetables, and rare lean meat, pausing to give silent thanks to the spirit of the animal that has given its life so that others might survive. She deliberately avoids any sauces and cheese - after a period of exposure in the desert wastes, a body would likely reject rich foods. For a beverage she takes a large mug of water, and on observing the actions of the dwarf known as Brock, also selects a smaller mug of the same ale.

Taking her food and beverages, Kaidacen moves outside to observe this "city" to which she has been taken. She sits and eats in silence, taking in as much as possible as she does.

Mikkafen follows the others down the hall towards what is supposed to be the cafeteria, not entirely sure of what to expect but the thought of food and drink sounded very appealing at the moment, adjusting his pack on his one shoulder and carrying his quarterstaff easily in the other hand. Having lost track of time a bit in the desert and not sure how long they were out for Mikkafen didn't want to over due it, so when he entered the cafeteria he got a tray and depending what was in reach given his size he got some breads, and secured a mug of broth and a mug of water as well knowing it was important to hydrate himself. Since the others headed outside Mikkafen followed suit and settled in, in between bites and sips Mikkafen looks at the others, its hard to imagine a more mix matched group but they were brought together for some reason or another.

Wyld looks up from his vegetarian meal and examines the dwarf and his piercing eyes. Now this was the gaze of a man who had realized much in his life. Wyld makes the sign of the Thiss' cha, the Divine Draconic being that his tribe worships.
Elf of Wyld Woods. Born new of Emerald Thiss'cha, God-Dragon of people. Give up magic, wealth for freedom. New world. Small price This one indicating the Vulture Mayakami, desert spirit. Give me power of beast. Change form. Power means must help others. Serve.

Wyld explains this all while sitting guarded. The dwarf gets the sense that there is more to his story, and that he has some unhappy thoughts to hide, but that he has told more than what he might tell others. He offers his tray to the dwarf, wishing to share his food. Now you. What you do?

the dwarf reaches out one of his hand declining the offer of food. he gestures to the other group members over as soon as all of you are nearby he speaks to you alloi've 'eard a bit from me brother 'bout yer predicament. oi'm serprised ye all even servived. ye are gone 'ave ta go back an' find out what 'appened otherwise we cannae gear up ta protect ourselves from what e'er this strange threat is. me shop is open ta ye 70% off any non magical items. cept fer this rod o' resurrection me brother told ta give ta ye. careful though ye'd 'ave ta come back 'ere ta recharge it. cringe er meself can do it if me brother is busy, 'es quite a powerful dwarf bein' the link between us an' the giants.he whistles to the kobolds who bring over a large pack the dwarf reaches and takes out a package of rations for each of you. these are regeneratin' rations, they each 'ave enough rations fer one day. af'er ye take a rest it'll reset itself. oi'm serprised ye didnae git one from the warden. anyways, me friend Daliran 'ill be yer guide through the desert ye can find 'im in the temple garden. yer free ta wander round but when yer all ready go talk ta 'im.

Wyld obviously doesn't take the rod before someone else does, instead more focused on what the dwarf has to say. His dwarven accent makes it tough for him to understand what he's saying, but this box of foods is a welcome gift. Not that Wyld would carry it for longer than he would need to use it. But upon mention of it being magical, he understands that it's not for himself anymore--it's for something else entirely. He took it and stayed quiet.

Once the dwarf finished his piece, Wyld goes to the Druid and tugs gently on a leafy portion of her body. Treeful one. Must go. Will meet you in garden. Without another thought for his companions, he exits the terraced meeting area. Soon after, he ducks into a nearby alleyway that appears unoccupied, and once out of sight, melds into his predator form--in this case, a large version of the furless cats he'd seen roaming the streets--and goes hunting for what he needs to find.

The medium-sized cat with emerald eyes and an unusual intelligence about it searches for a shrine that could be used to make such an offering to his god. He looks for a shrine to a Dragon that he may make Sacrifice to his own God. He looks far and wide around the city, heedless of barriers or needs. He listens to the talk of others, aware that many commoners are willing to stare at him, and that children want to pet him. He bears it all with dignified indifference, for all that matters right now is his search.

Search, taking 20, for a total of 21 to find a shrine to a generic shrine to a Dragon. Once found, Wyld shift out of his predator form and will place the container of food upon the offering place then make the signs of his God in reverence. He will light a fire in the offering area, stoking it to make sure that it is well-tended, and then intone his God's name until the gift has been thoroughly destroyed by the fire.

Kaidacen accepts the package offered by the dwarf. "I thank ye kindly for this... stranger? Though out of curiosity, I must ask: what if any of declines to return to that place?"

The druidess makes no move to take the Rod of Resurrection, however. To freely give out an item of such powerful magic is suspicious to her, and may come with a hidden price. She is also somewhat distrustful and uncomfortable of magic that disrupts the natural order and cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

"What do you think will happen to us from here?"

The green-haired fey woman turns to face the gnome. "It appears your question has been answered - it seems we are expected to return to the prison to determine what has caused the troubles there."

Once the dwarf finished his piece, Wyld goes to the Druid and tugs gently on a leafy portion of her body.

So... that would be her ears, then? :smalltongue:

She looks more like a feline half-elf than anything tree-ish, apart from the green/tan skin and (currently) leaf-green eyes and hair.

Treeful one. Must go. Will meet you in garden.

Kaidacen smiles at the dragonborn, recognizing the touch of the Folk upon him. "Meet soon," she agrees.

The half-orc followed along, listening to what was said without offering much conversation. He was really focused on his own hunger, but more than that, he wasn't really feeling very up to the task of trying to figure anything out and find direction of some sort. He was still pretty shaken up by the recent events, both concerning the prison and the last several months of his life. Before he came to work there, a string of bad luck had shaken his confidence quite a bit. At this time, what with barely having survived the prison riot and the desert, he was content to let more experienced and analytical minds try and figure out the next course of action for this little thrown together group and he would just do his best to follow along and do his part.

Plus, the town he grew up in had always been pretty prejudiced towards his kind and he became pretty self conscious when people brought it up, so he found himself lapsing into silence as he listened to the dwarf and the formerly elf creature speaking. It did please him to hear that the dwarf seemed to think well of him, though. Rudak was all too happy when food was offered, though. He showed restraint and waited for the others to head to the dining area first before going in himself.

It took him a while to pick things he would like to eat, since a lot of it was fairly new to him. He loved trying new foods on those rare occasions when he was somewhere new with enough money to treat himself. He also knew that he could exactly gorge himself because he had no idea where they were headed. So he contended himself with getting small amounts of some of the more exotic looking foods. Cheeses he wasn't familiar with, a few meats that were either familiar ones cooked in such a way that they weren't recognizable, or something new altogether, and some fruit. He saw everyone else going outside and followed along, his tray only holding two plates, but four mugs for water. He knew he shouldn't drink too much at once, but if they had time, he was going to rest and drink lots of water before they left the area.

He sat down near the gnome, offering a friendly smile before tucking into his own food, resisting the urge to eat too fast. "What are we talking about?" he asked, having missed the first part of the conversation.

Mikkafen accepts the proffered rations from the kobolds with is pleasantly surprised to hear that they are regenerating rations, what he wouldn't have killed a couple days ago when he was sure that thirst and hunger was going to sink them down towards cannibalism out in the desert. In all fairness he hadn't even considered the possibility of returning to the desert and back to the prison, but as the dwarf had suggested who else had the experience there to do so, still he looked at the rag tag group of companions and brought up the obvious question. "Do we want to return to the prison, and probably more importantly why should we?"

Brock had been listening to the conversation behind him, frowning into his food as he did. He wasn't exactly eager to go back into that sandy hell anytime soon, but it was sounding like they'd have no choice lest they succumb to whatever ill omen had been placed on them.

His tray empty and his belly full, he stands up and offers his opinion to the group. "Since it sounds increasingly more like we don't have much of a choice in this, we should go if only to answer the questions this attack raised. As far who attacked and why, and what ultimately became of the Warden. These people were good enough to save us from a slow death, and are supplying us for future travels, not just this return trip to the prison. The least we can do is investigate what happened, return here, and decide what our next move should be."

Mikkafen grunted at the revelation that they had been placed under a geas, for while he was grateful for being rescued and he would repay that kindness as he could, it was something when the choice was taken from you. Setting his plate aside he takes a long pull from the mug of water he had taken from the cafeteria and then looked at the others. "Well I am not sure about the rest of you would but i would just as well get this over with sooner rather than latter while a few details are still fresh in our minds, I don't really remember what started everything going all crazy there but I suspect that will come back to me as i recover from our trek through the desert."

Though he had likely worked with some of them before he couldn't full remember so he introduced himself to save any embarrassment. "My name is Mikkafen, i wasn't a guard so much as employed to maintain portions of the prison from what i can remember, and it looks like we will be travelling together for a bit."

The seemingly lazy gnoll effortlessly, and carefully gets out of bed. With some fair amount of grace, he walks over to where all of the food was being had, and ate with he could fit in his stomach, seemingly indiscriminately. He follows the group's general movements around carefully, and listens intently at what he hears, only nodding occasionally at a few phrases here and there. Finally, he says something in a thoroughly thought out manor, as if he was tasting every word that came out, and swashing it around in his mouth. "I'll come along." His expression lay twisted in a smile as he seemed to trail off into thought after his words. Other than a few changes in the pace of breathing, and the occasional intensification of his smile, the hyena-man seemed positively focused.

He returns shortly with his gear slung over one shoulder and holding his spear as he might a walking stick. He is surprised to see that a gnoll has joined up with the group, but he doesn't seem to be worried. Taking in everything that he's managed to hear while mostly just tagging along, he shrugs at the idea of going back to the prison. It's not like he had anything better to do and the last time someone tried to kill him, he was left for dead with no real chance at trying to pay back the favor. Wyld had been resting when this star whizzed by the camp and exploded nearby. He jerked awake, and stood up soon after. Was it star that made fire blast? Lets go see. Without another word, he transforms into the shadowy brown of a (larger than normal) bobcat, and with a squack, his familiar went to follow him on wing.

Moving at 50 feet / round. May on wing, scouting at 100 feet/round. If she encounters anything, she'll try to kite it back to Wyld and disarm once creature is distracted by Wyld.

Their strange reptilian companion transformed before his eyes and with endless energy bounded much quick towards the star than he can even hope to achieve especially in his still fatigued state of dehydration, instead Mikkafen looks to their guide and the others. Rudak did the same as the gnome, just trying to rest and sip his water, hoping to feel better soon. They would be in bad shape if all of them were feeling as bad as he was. His eyes widened and he sputtered his water as the object flew overhead. He watched it go and was already wondering what in the hells it was when the others all got up to go investigate. With a grunt of effort, the scout rose to his feet and trailed along behind the others. As they went, he made a point to keep an eye out in the other directions. Surely such a thing might attract more than just the adventurers.

Good, Rudak. You watch for creature? Good idea. We not stay long.

The druid that you speak of sounds much like my half-brother..... though it has been over 500 years since he brought peace to that town. I know not of this cringe creature, though if he be dragon kin he must be long lived. I was only 100 years of age when the liche captured me and bound me in such a form.... My half-brother went to save me with the help of the giants who were able to beat the liche's minions. my brother, with help from our father was able to "kill" the liche by using it's phylactery and his other evil items as a means to decay his body permanently.... I was too late to be saved and they did not realize my soul was bound to this form. I was cast into other worldly realms and left there to be fought over by many an evil demon or devil... as were the other objects that were used to "kill" the liche. If I and the other items reach evil hands, the most powerful liche will be resurrected and my brother I sense is no longer of this world, and I know not where my father Agrythaxx, resides...

You know of a great and powerful silver dragon that makes his layer in the far south, he has many battle scars and has even been rumored to have played a part in the destruction of a powerful liche. his name now spoken by the young dragon's ghost, comes back to you and that name seems to fit.

One minute he's moving along at the back of the group, trying to be a rear guard where his superior night vision will work best away from the rest of the group's light, the next minute, he seems to have lost everyone. "Curse this stupid desert," says the scout as he looks around more for his companions. For what seems like hours he searches for them, but it's merely been a few minutes. Many offspring, many children. Lives south of desert, past mountains, hidden in forest. It comes out from Wyld's memory like thoughts unbidden, as if his new draconic heritage gave him some secret knowledge even he knew little about. Emerald Wyld wakes to the sensation of the branch near him moving and slight pricking sensations near his ribs. He shifts in his sleep, his hand brushing against...a beak? He opens his eyes to find that Mayakami was picking mites of grime and some minor insects off of Wyld's scaled torso. Not all vultures should do that, probably: clean their non-raptor companions. But perhaps having spent her previous life as a nature spirit led to an enlightened view about bodily health that extended beyond other birds.

He looked over May's feathered body, searching through her feathers for any abnormal bumps or whatnot. The vulture's skin was rough and somewhat dry, and he only found a single insect that had burrowed its way into her feathered form. When May sensed the writhing insect between his fingers she squacked and he flung the insect in her direction. A single loud snap announced her successful ingestion of the creature. Satisfied, May took off to fly above their group.

Emerald took the time to look around him. His other two companions were in a semi-conscious state, neither fully asleep nor fully roused from their evening rest. The sun hadn't quite risen over the horizon yet--darn bird--but the first tendrils of light were already illuminating the desert. The only other glow was of Danivyr's rune-covered skull, which seemed to pulse in some organic way, as if it's magical flow were an indicator of life. Wyld bent over to the dragon-companion, almost to examine it more closely. Perhaps can help Wyld find memories he thought. Like Wyld has spirits of other Dragon from this world. He shook his head.

It wouldn't do. He had to find some food for the day. Maybe it would help their companions and break the monotony. He took a stick and scratched a note in the dirt: Wyld go to find food. Back soon He'd not be long. After all, this time was great for finding animals ripe for the picking.

Still feeling a bit odd holding a baby dragon skull in a rock and talking to a ghostly dragon Mikkafen takes some comfort in that one of his companions at least had flint and steel and the other seemed to figure out rabbit skinning as he didn't know if he could choke down raw rabbit no matter how hungry he was.

"Well once we get these rabbits cooked up all nice and pretty like we can get this show on the road, though without our guide I am not entirely sure how to find the prison, any thoughts?"

Danivyr's head straightens as a thought seems to come to his mind now that is something I can do. I sense weird energies coming from the south the dragon points a claw to the south. by this time the sun is above the horizon and is starting to warm up the land around you.

as you finish eating and pack up you notice an animal on a hill close to you staring down at you from its dune. it was the animal from before.... you're sure of it. as you look harder you notice that the animal is getting bigger. you take a long blink in confusion, as your eyes open the animal now sits a yard or so away from your camp. it's hound like features seem to be more curious of your presence than threatened.
Grrrruf yowllll Ruff rufth grrrrrrowl? as it finishes barking you seem to think it is asking you a question....

your friends? its eyebrows (if you can call them that) raise in confusion and alarm and his voice is calmer now... there are more of you? hmmm I don't seem to recall seeing any other people other than you three.... I did see the star fall last night and went over to investigate but there was nothing but molten metal and foot prints leading back to your camp.... you were asleep and you didn't seem like undead.... so I left you until the morning. He tried to keep his posiition neutral, not wanting to alarm the beast, but he was mindful of where he had set his spear. But then the dragon skull started to somehow translate the thing's barks. I shall lead the way. the dog seems to disappear before reappearing a couple yards away towards the south. you follow the dog with haste and seem to almost catch up to him before he disappears and reappears further away. you make steady progress and by the time night falls, the prison is within sight.

You can't help but feel as if your speedy progress is caused by some unknown force.... As you gaze back at the distance you have traveled you feel a sense of pure dread from behind you. You quickly turn towards the prison and see nothing but the desert between. You feel as if a malevolent eye is cast upon you. Also, what you sense?

When it becomes apparent that the dragon-ghost must concentrate to do this--or at least take time to reply--the elf takes interest in what Mayakami has scouted for the day in terms of food, and wonders if she has eaten enough for herself. Wyld made good use of the rabbits caught earlier that day, and thus doesn't need to eat much come evening-time. He will, however, nibble at the last rabbit, which is most likely cold and drier but not unsatisfactorily bad to eat.

Letting out a breath he had held he feels his heart settle even more and rises from the ground and unstoppers his waterskin and lets the water wash away some of the dust before gazing at the prison ahead of them.

"No plan here. Best I could suggest would be getting to the wall and seeing how they are approaching, then try and either lower ropes or open the gate depending on their number."

He paused for a moment in thought.

"Do any of you even have rope ?"

Tarkus sigh but smile after her suggestion: " My partner is carrying a rope, so thats not a problem. No, the real problem is getting outside. Those prisonners are everywhere and gonna attack on us as soon as they see him. No, I think we should do a watch to see who is coming. As far as we know, it could be a lich who just teleported here and planning to make this prison her new base of operation. "

At the mention of a lich, Rodrick instinctively flinched and his hand reached to touch his sword, finding some comfort in it's reassuring presence.

"Why would a lich teleport outside rather than in, ruining any element of surprise ? No that makes no sense ... but you are right, we should scout out the incoming force as best we can."

He pulled up the tattered hood of his cloak to cover his face better.

"Coming with me, or staying here ?"

"Rescued......ha.......bugger they are not going to be happy but if nothing else at least I won't be alone." He pauses for a moment. "No offense Danivyr."

Visualizing where the light beam was seen from the perspective of those inside the prison he attempts to visualize roughly where these survivors might be, and then continues his plodding towards the prison using his quarterstaff as a walking stick and with his hood up so that despite trapping in some of the heat it at least keeps the sunlight from directly beating down on him. raising his head now and then to observe the prison for any signs of life or that his approach might be watched.

Mikkaafeen gets the sense that they are near the food lockers. none taken good Mikkafeen, I am not technically alive so I don't necessarily count as anything living such as company. nor am I a humanoid creature...

"The tricky part I would guess will be convincing them that to stick around while I find out what happened here, though perhaps our scorpion blooded friend here and your spiritual presence might help convince them, well that and they are already hear anyways so who knows maybe they will be agreeable to lending a hand." Mikkafen shrugged beneath his cloak which while keeping the sun from beating down upon him trapped much of the heat in causing him to sweat a bit under these temperatures.

"Do you think the events of the prison were caused intentionally or was thsi some freak accident of nature?"

Rodrick nodded in agreement over not waiting till night time, but shifted abruptly to discust as Tarkus continued.

"Payback? Payback ? Do you know their crime? Do you know their sentence? They are here to atone for their sins, and they are mindless. Whatever they are doing or have done ... they are not mindful in their actions. We are wardens, they are our wards."

He shook his head in disbelief at the situation.

"Kill if you must, my blade will likely taste blood before the day is through - but it will not do so in the name petty vengeance."

He sighed exasperatedly, clearly uncomfortable with the notion of killing them at all, but starting to resign himself to the fact.

Tarkus raise up: " Im gonna go get Quasimodo, you'll understand why I can't bring him outside this place."

He reach a corner of the kitchen and turn. You hear a door opening and a sound you probably heard before. He come back with a dromedary, with lots of saddles on his back.

as you reach the gates of the prison the scorpion man turns towards you
the door seems closed.... I will scale the wall and open it.
he walks forward and climbs the wall it seems with little effort. He disappears over the rim and you hear screeching then that sound of a watermelon being smashed again as a headless body of a half naked prisoner falls off the wall landing with a loud sandy thud. as the dust clears the gate seems to be partially stuck but large enough for Mikkafeen to enter... as you enter the zombies look at you and start to head towards you but shriek in fear as soon as they are a few feet from you and back off. the scorpion man descends next to you and nods approvingly at Danivyr's skull
I did not realize an undead was able to use anti-undead spells.... it seems we may not have to kill them after all.
as you try to remember where the prisoners may be you head there seemingly of your own accord... but you can't help but feel something else drives you there..... as you near the food locker your eyes fade out again and you see a pillar like rock twisted in many ways.... and by it a figure stands... as the figure turns towards you you see deep red eyes that terrify you, your body seems to step forward and as you do the figure takes off its hood and it's a mangled decaying face that for some reason you feel like it is you..... but not you somehow.... as you snap back into reality you realise that danivyr has asked you if you were alright, you are unable to talk but nod your head. as you start to walk shaking your head you reach the door..... you extend your hand to knock but your hand doesn't respond, the door opens of its own accord and a creature lunges at you. you scream then snap back into reality again. are you sure you're alright? this place is very unsettling, and you have been breathing very heavily. since we started nearing this locked door.

I don't know the full story, but as far as I understand, they disappeared when they went to find out what my casket of silver rock was. And the rest slowly went away until only mikkafeen was left. " Well, it might sound weird for you but I take orders only from the Druid Council. I was here for support the Prison guards as part of a treaty thatw ould be bothersome to explain in detail. But since the Giant Warden is dead..."

The man does a small religious sign of respect for the deceased while he continued talking:

"You have my thanks for offering your assistance, for judging by what I saw out there we will need to keep a close on each other to ensure our success."

As for the one who served the druid's council but was hesitant to remain without their leave. "For all we know the warden could be alive yet, trapped within the bowels of the prison for while we were cut off from him we did not see him perish, and I would suspect the council would want you to make a full report without assumptions. Still I understand your concerns and if you must leave you must leave, be cautious while travelling the desert for there are strange creatures afoot out there more so than before, and while I wish I could help get you to safety I must solve this riddle first, or if you wish to hole up here we can return before we leave this place?"

Tarkus continued: " Yeeeah... that could work. Inside the warren's right-hand office, their is a magical device that let communicate with the outside. We can send a message in any city on the continent with it. This way, I'll be able to test if you are telling the truth about the next city AND we will be able to get help from the next big city (insert the name of that city here).I didnt go there myself because I would have to break our "zombie act" to get to it. you head down the hallway and as you look around you notice the wooden support beams holding up the ceiling which is a good 40 feet above you. probably to accommodate the warden's large size. as you reach the end you are faced with two choices, one that seems to go deeper and on that seems to go straight, deciding to go to the right as you know that is where the offices are most likely to be. as you start heading down you see that your way is blocked by a cave in. upon closer examination with light provided by Danivyr you find a small passage in the middle of the pile of rubble that seems stable enough for you to crawl through if you are careful it appears that I must wait here for you to return.
