Punkey-lit peers about eagerly, surveying his surroundings. He knew that his people could not survive long without a nice tree to live in, and perhaps two hundred more for later generations. The Hinkypunks, or Will-o(of)-the-wisps as every other race under the sun seemed intent on calling them, were a powerful and ancient breed, but a delicate one all the same. It was said that so much as having anther's hatred directed upon them would kill them outright, as would countless other things. Fearing for the lives of his people Punkey-lit hastened to form a cloud of magic, much akin to the circles that he'd heard some races used, but rather as a cloud of swirling will-o-wisps, mesmerizing to the eye, allowing their magic to build and crackle into a faint cloud of shimmering lights. Carefully he directed this power, attempting to mix the sand and water, changing their properties through the conjoined magic of the Hinkypunks, molding it into hardened rock coated in soil, and manipulating the rock's polarity to make it float above the land. Then he tried to make a single seed take root and grow into a tree, ancient by the standards of most upon that floating ball of earth. Finally the Hinkypunks broke off, each creating their own magical burrows in the tree in which to reside, sheltered from the world around them.

Keeping his eyes especially peeled for a nice comfortable looking tree. :smallwink:

Bongo looked around him, and thought this looked like the place. "Here! Here we will build our new home! But first we must know more about our surroundings. You lot, check out that pool. And you lot, check out that cave. The rest of you, follow me to the cave mouth. There, we shall build."

First ordinance: Everybody works, everybody eats.
If you are strong, you will FIGHT. If you are swift, you will RUN. The young will gather, and the old will craft, and everyone will have purpose in this new place. We will function to our fullest, and claim GLORY in this new world. Abandon your old names, you nothings of that yester-place, for today we make new names for ourselves!

"We are the Ondegrim," Cinderbrow glowered, "and this day is ours!"
With that, the hobgoblins gathered arms and moved northeast upstream. Others might seek shelter- but this they had as they pleased among the forest's dark and moldy places. Others might seek knowledge- but they were already exploring as they moved about the woods, stalking in silence and sniffing the air with their protuberant snouts. The hobgoblins had neither want nor need for either of these necessities, for right now, their tiny hearts pounded to the desire of only two things:

Glory, and meat.

Later, they would make celebration. Later, they would take wives and husbands for themselves, and raise children as mighty as ogres.

Right now, there was only the hunt.

Hobgoblins were wretched creatures, for certain.

And now Cinderbrow had twenty of them at his disposal.

Lienzo, Cande Guiomar

Cackling awakens on the southern coastline, other sources of this new noise harmonize with the original as time goes on. The laughter subsides with time. And, Cande Guiomar gathers Liezno with a call, and declares them individuals worthy of names. A quick naming ceremony takes place, which mostly consists of Cande Guiomar pointing at an imp and asking for its name. The group of twenty is split into seven groups, each with their individual tasks. Each group is told to keep in contact with whistles and shouts. More social activities are to be done when the day says work is impossible.

Group One: Researches (fire) magic.
Cande, Amalia and Lázaro shelter themselves from the sun under the treeline's shadow and take it upon themselves to discover the tribe's innate abilities. Cande's efforts are second to the others as delegation tends to steal her attention away; however, all three just do what feels natural to them. Trying to take cues from nature they look to the sun for inspiration.

Group Two: Searches for water.
Juan, Rosenda and Hernán are sent northwest in search of water. High in the air they look for any pools that have gathered in plants or running sources of water.

Group Three: Searches for water.
Adolfito, Salud and Cristóbal are sent north in search of water. High in the air they look for any pools that have gathered in plants or running sources of water.

Group Four: Searches for water.
Socorro, Desi and Clarisa are sent northeast in search of water. They're instructed to check to see how much water the plants bleed, by (re)moving bark, as they travel.

Group Five: Gathers food.
Carmelita, Donato and Kostyantyn are instructed to gather potential food from the jungle. Looking at the seeds the trees produce, the tidal pools, and to watch the wild-life and what they appear to eat.

Group Six: Gathers/Creates sharp rocks
Joso, Terenti and Onesiphoros are delegated with the task of getting sharp rocks for tool making. If there are a lack of such rocks they're instructed to do their best in create them through more forceful means. But, if the stones appear to be plentiful they're farther instructed to try to start creating tools, knifes. Which is one of the few things the tribe actually knows for sure how to do.

Group Seven: Builds plant material containers
Xenophon and Keefe are instructed to take plant matter from nearby sources and to try to create containers. Preferable watertight but any will do.

Delvain:

Grand Marshall Karelic looked out over the land before him with disdain. Though he had led a few missions to the surface world before, he still felt exposed in its wide open spaces. Blades of grass tickled his beard, and he snorted to get it out of his nose. While he would feel better once solid stone was once again beneath his feet, he knew the troops were tired and could do with some rest. Looking ahead he saw a river, a water source, good. "Make for the river. We camp here for now." He ordered.

A quick march later, and they were at the shoreline. "I want two volunteers to scout upriver. If we can find higher elevation, we might find a cave system. In a few days we may be able to sleep on something more solid than dirt. Be back before full dark" When the two scouts had left he began assigning tasks to ready camp. "I want you two gathering water and you four catching fish. You two, guard them. I need you four gathering wood, we need enough to cook the fish and burn through the night. Get some dry grass for starters, you two, guard them and help them get it back here. Finally I need you four to begin weaving temporary shelters from some of this grass. I know its not the metal you are used to, but do what you can."

His orders done, he waded into the water, the hair of his beard twitching, searching. Every hair on a dwarves head was designed to find and work metals, literally. Through his beard he reached out, searching the water for traces of metal that could indicate a potential vain of precious metals upriver.

Hobgoblins.

Hobgoblins were wretched creatures, for certain. Black mold grows wherever one sleeps, and their ugliness can startle budding flora into wilting. What's worse is their pride and desire for distinguishment, which often imparts them with domineering predispositions. A hobgoblin acting alone might steal jewelry from a human home- if only to assert misfortune over the larger species. Indeed, were they only to act individually, as many do to find fame for themselves, they would be little more than pests to the world.

However.

It is not so uncommon that a leader will emerge among them, skilled in shifting the pride of the individual to the group. When allowed to organize, and thrive off one another, well. Matters can become more troublesome...

"Ondegrim!" Cinderbrow roars, thrusting the still-beating heart towards the rising chorus.
"Ondegrim!"
"Ondegrim!"
"Ondegrim!"

OOC: **Historical timing of the passage above may or may not vary from current events, in order to avoid conflict with the outcome of this round.
Just a little something I thought I'd whip up to keep us going.
*Whistles innocently.*

The Windfoot Clan had ascended the small mountain as one to survey their surroundings. Each wanted to partake in the act of discovery and choosing the destiny of their people.

Staying on this cold and almost uninhabitable mountain was not desirable. Instead, they set their eyes on the forests below them. Unanimously, they chose the tropical forests to the south. The land was warmer and more fertile, bountiful in every possible way. They could live a carefree life there. Their children would play happily, they would dance and feast under the moonlight and in the sun. Whatever suited their fancy. Life would be good.

And so, the Windfoot Clan easily glided southward down the mountain slope and into the tropical forests.
