It says in the spell compendium version the limbs grow slightly in length, but you get 20 foot reach..so how do you visualize these attacks taking place?

You don't actually gain reach. You attack as if using thrown weapons. So you're 20 feet away, I punch the air in front of me, and you reel back with a fist-shaped mark on your face.

I visualized it as when you punch a sort of tesseract thing happens, or your arm doing a Mr. Fantastic.

My bad, I got mixed up, thanks. But still...I mean, i guess it is magic, that just seems weird to imagine in my head.

EDIT: What do you mean by a tesseract thing?

Or just punching so hard the air punches with you.

Sorry. Ever read A Wrinkle In Time? Good book. Read it in third grade. Anyway, a research is space folding on itself to shorten distance.

For reference, this is Iron Reaver Soul Stealer:

I always imagined it as something similar. Blades/pulses/whatever is appropriate of wind/energy/magic that shoot out in the arc of your attack and hit something, more like Muzaka's attacks from Noblesse:

I always picture it as a you punching, and blood just spraying out of your hand into the shape of a fist that socks your enemy in his jaw.

Kamaitachi. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RazorWind) Your claws are so sharp they cut the air and make it keep cutting until it cuts your opponent. Or you punch so hard you create a shock wave. Or bite so hard that... something happens. Funnily enough, the kamaitachi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamaitachi) the name comes from could benefit from the spell: they're weasels with absurdly sharp claws.

Specifically? I imagine Kirby's Up+B move in Super Smash Brothers.

I've always pictured it as some form of cavitation bubble caused by your magics. I know that's utterly ridiculous, but the idea that you can use magic to simply tear air/water whatever medium you are in apart similar to how a mantis or pistol shrimp create cavitation bubbles which collapse tearing through.

I always consider it as a variation on Razor Wind (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RazorWind) (warning for those who don't want to lose an afternoon: TV Tropes link) or Kamaitachi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamaitachi). Basically, you claw at the air, creating wind that cuts and slashes.
