Best artificer races?

What are some good races for artificer, 3.5? No home brew--just official races.

Spellscale for charisma would work for a UMD boost.

Azurin is fun, for similar reasons: take Shape Soulmeld: Mage's Spectacles for a substantial UMD boost.

iWarforged are nice because their racial substitution level allows themselves to be valid targets for their infusions.

Warforged are probably the best.

They're probably the only Race that can go Artificer and function without Items.

Warforged, humans, azurins, and anything with an Intelligence bonus. Warforged and Azurin have been explained, and humans are obvious. Charisma is actually a secondary stat for them, because your infusions run on Intelligence and UMD is easy to boost. (Very low levels might be an exception.)

Gnomes make pretty good artificers, don't they?

On fluff, yeah. They're pretty much the only ones who can reduce the price by using elemental binding. In any other setting or if you can justify learning it, they're pretty indifferent.
