So, I'm looking through Dragon Magic when I suddenly see the following in the Spelleater (http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd500/yilitaiwandou/Spelleater.jpg?t=1302790958) description.

Skills: Balance +10, Bluff +6, Concentration +16, Diplomacy +4, Handle Animal +6, Hide +12, Intimidate +16, Knowledge (arcana) +7, Knowledge (history) +6, Listen +13, Move Silently +10, Ride +4, Search +13, Sense Motive +9, Spellcraft +11, Spot +13, Survival +7

Why does a Huge/Gargantuan dragon with the build of an elephant have ranks in Ride? Seriously, what was WOTC thinking?

lovely find :belkar: - that means it is even a racial skill for them too!

Clearly, they intend to use them as end-game enemies, you have these guys wage into battle riding upon even bigger creatures. Maybe the Tarrasque is released by one looking for a proper mount.

Well, it gets a +2 synergy bonus from having more than 5 ranks in Handle Animal, then it has +2 to that from having 14 dex.

I'm not sure why it needs Handle Animal in the first place though. Their description says they're wilderness dwelling outcasts, so maybe they herd cattle for food or something.

How is this any different from sapient beings with Diplomacy?

Because diplomacy doesn't teach humanoids tricks?

You're obviously not a diplomat.

You're obviously not a diplomat.

At the very least it's not a legitimate use for it.
