View Full Version : Optimization Bester the Psi Cop

I'm making a new character, and since I just got done binge-watching Babylon 5 (If you haven't seen it you should), I thought I'd make Alfred Bester from the Psi Corps. He's obviously gonna be a Telepath, so we'll start from there. Now, I was thinking:

Race - LE Human
Class - Telepath 5/ Mindbender 1/ Telepath +4/ Thrallherd 10
Flaws - Frail and Noncombatant
Feats - Inquisitor(H), Overchannel(F), Talented(F), Power Penetration(1), Extend Power(3), Psionic Meditation(P), Mindsight(6), Twin Power(9), Craft Universal Item (For a non-racist version of the Power Link Shard [Based on something like this (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=10296.0)])(12), (15), (18)

Powers - Focused on telepathy and messing with people's minds

Now, the biggest weakness I see right now is Mind Blank. Shatter Mind Blank (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/shatterMindBlank.htm) seems like one solution, though I could always get one of my thralls or believers to do something.

Looks nice, but I prefer to keep the feat. Besides, my DM is a little iffy on web material.

It's a 9th level power. EK only works for (highest power level) - 1 powers.

So I'm seeing that the main problem with this is that most of my powers are mind affecting, and I don't really know of any ways to fix this.

Are you talking about this line in that power?

Psychic chirurgery negates all forms of insanity, confusion, the effect of such powers as microcosm, and so on,
It seems like it might work, though i was hoping for something that kicks-in a little earlier than 17th level.

No, he's talking about the part where it says the user of the power can implant any power they know into the mind of another Psionic character. If you meet (or write into your backstory) a level 17 Seer with Metafaculty and Psychic Chirurgery, they can give you Metafaculty.

Oh! I had already gotten that from Tippy. I was talking about the rest of my stuff (damn near every Telepath power) that is blocked by mind-immunity.

What he meant was that you use Psychic Chirurgery to pick up other powers that aren't blocked by immunity to mind-affecting. Simple things like Crystal Shard and Energy Ray will suit your needs.

I was gonna do that anyway because there are a bunch of great powers out there. The problem is the character concept I'm working off of, most of his abilities/tactics are blocked by one of the most common immunities around.

Which is the problem all Enchanters have. You'll need to stock up on Greater Dispel Magic/Psionics, ask if Shatter Mind Blank works on magical Mind Blanks too, and quite frankly be prepared to blast or BC when your mind-affecting powers don't work.

BC is still a fantastic option

BC is still a fantastic option

I'll definitely be doing some (a lot) BC, and I'm probably gonna pick up Energy Missile for some nice blasting.
