Okay so on a new edition of IIWI I wanted to pick up a topic that has been chewing at my brain for a little while, bolas. Now for anyone not familiar bolas are two to three weights with string or wire attaching them to one another, being spun around then thrown at the target to trip/entangle them. In pathfinder they do just that while dealing less than lethal damage but giving people the option of a ranged combat maneuver. Now they also add spiked/barbed bolas to give the same option but lethal, the only thing is these nifty little ranged guys are well, exotic.

It is something I have come to wonder that, yes some fighters, and even other classes, specialize in exotic weapons and can be some seriously deadly combinations kinda like a Elven Curve Blade. But with the bola it just lacks the damage output. Now some people still specialize in weapons with low damage output to either be unique, wanting a different option to trick up the enemies, or even roleplay reason after giving a very interesting back story on your character and playing out his/her fighting style. But are bolas a viable option for this same situation? Discuss! Let's here everyone's opinions in the matter at hand!

Well, I'm running a half orc brawler right now, who has bolas as a ranged backup. They're mainly there in case someone tries to escape from her...

That range increment 10 really hurts, won't lie. When you're up against things with decent CMD, -2 per range increment past 10 gets painful. I wouldn't specialize in them, but if you have a feat to spare they're nice flavor and occasionally useful.
