Start with the Ranger.

These are the bounty hunter prestige classes that I know of.
The Justiciar in Complete Warrior and the Consecrated Harrier in Complete Divine. Both must be Lawful; the Justiciar is a generic bounty hunter who specializes in capturing enemies. The Consecrated Harrier can cast Ranger spells, plus a few more specific to bounty hunting, but works for a particular organization. The Vigilante prestige class from Complete Adventurer can also be played as a bounty hunter, albeit one who operates more outside the law and must be non-evil, but also casts from its own spell list. Complete Adventurer also has the Bloodhound prestige class for a generic bounty hunter free of any alignment restrictions.
Complete Scoundrel has a lot of general advice for this type of character.

Also, check out this article:

Generally a bounty-hunting character will focus on dealing non-lethal damage. With the Merciful weapon enchantment, you can do this with any weapon.

Now, if your object is to specifically make an Expy of Boba Fett--that is an amoral mercenary with cool armor and lots of tricks up his sleeve, I again refer you to Complete Adventurer and Complete Scoundrel. Look at the Skill Tricks. The Magic Item Compendium has the Owlfeather Armor; for a little over 8,000gp, you can fly for five rounds, 3 times per day.

Exactly how similar would you want the characters to be? A guy with a "jet pack" and flame throwers, fancy armor, and a giant missile...? Is he going to be killed by a blind man that can barely move? Or are you going for a more generic bounty hunter feel? What kind of overall opfu level? Character level?

Be a Ranger, use the following Ranger variants:

- Skilled City-Dweller (Cityscape web enhancement (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20070228a))
- Urban Tracking (Cityscape web enhancement)
- Rival Organization (Cityscape web enhancement)
- Voice of the City (Cityscape web enhancement)
- 3rd Shadow Sword substitution level (Champions of Valor)
- Champion of the Wild (Complete Champion)
- Distracting Attack (PHB II)
- Crowd-Walker (Cityscape web enhancement)
- Hidden Stalker (Cityscape web enhancement)

In addition to the prestige classes jedipilot24 mentioned (justiciar, vigilante, bloodhound), there are also the Avenger (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20070401a), Ebonmar Infiltrator (Cityscape) and Crimson Scourge (Cityscape).

Edit:

Thinking about it, you might actually want to use the Ranger's Trap Expert variant (Dungeonscape) instead of the Ranger's Urban Tracking variant. You can get Urban Tracking as a feat anyway.

Thanks a lot of good stuff. I was looking towards being neutral like in that I would take any bounty that seemed good. As far as items go good armor with some tricks, a multi sensory helmet , maybe some way to fly and to replicate the weapons such as the flame thrower on the forearm and the blaster rifle.

Also I usually build out to level 20 to make sure the character will be playable most of the time.

Despite name, humans can qualify too, and most of devices are not even magical

Also, DMG have futuristic weapons: Laser pistol, Flamer, Laser rifle and Antimatter rifle. Sadly, no price listed.

Finally, there was Elven Biotech weapon in Greyhawk 2000 (Dragon #277):
Shocker (25 gp, 1 lb., Range Increment 30) - victim must make Fort 18 save or become helpless for 1d6+1 rounds. Critical hit means auto-failed save
Silvershot (60 gp, 3 lb., 1d12 piercing, Critical X2, Range Increment 400) Look something like traditional rifles, but 6 ft. long and made of translucent glass-like material. Mechanically works like wand of magic missiles, but required wielder make ranged touch attack to hit.
