As above, and I wish to make a viable build for a Goblin Swordsage with a focus on melee spellcasting.

Is this a viable build?

I am confused by "Swordsage with a focus on melee spellcasting".
Did you mean the Arcane Swordsage variant in the Tome of Battle book or are you referring to Swordsage as a concept or are your referring to a class I do not know about?

Sorry for the confusion.

I want to be a Goblin Swordsage with a mix of melee Maneuvers and spellcasting ability (as per the "Adaption" variant, ToB pg 20).

"If you prefer, you could emphasize the magical talents of the swordsage by giving the swordsage the ability to learn arcane spells in place of maneuvers of the equivalent level."

Then yes, it is a viable build (depending on what spells/maneuvers you take).

What level are you starting at?

Level 1, since the DM has decided to start there.

Well I would start with an Air Goblin(Unearthed Arcana). This gives you -2 Str, +4 Dex, -2 Cha. You should ask but it is safe to assume that you will use Wisdom for your spell maneuvers just like you use wisdom for your martial maneuvers. So you will probably want good Str, Dex, Con and Wis. What is the stat generating method? Are you rolling stats or is it a point buy(if so, how much)?

You start off with 6 maneuvers(4 readied) so you probably want 2 utility maneuvers and 4 combat maneuvers. Shocking Grasp fits your idea fairly well for the first few levels. Same goes for Enlarge Person.

ADAPTATION The name “swordsage” naturally implies a character who carries a sword or weapon of some kind. However, a swordsage works very well as a supernatural martial artist of almost any school or origin. If you prefer, you could instead emphasize the magical talents of the swordsage by giving the swordsage the ability to learn arcane spells in place of maneuvers of equivalent level. In general, spells from the schools of abjuration, evocation, and transmutation are most appropriate for a swordsage of this type, especially spells with a range of personal or touch. The arcane spell is “cast” as if it were a martial maneuver. In this case, you should remove the class’s light armor proficiency and reduce the swordsage’s Hit Die to d6.

We're rolling 4d6, minus the lowest.
(mutters questions to himself of why he ALWAYS chooses the MAD classes)

Oh it is not that MAD.
You want a 14 Str(roll of a 16), a 14 Dex(roll of a 10) and a 12-14 Con(roll of 12/14). Wisdom is important if your touch spells have saving throws that matter. This can be avoided if you get bad rolls.

Alright. Anything else?

I would recommend reading the Swordsage Handbook (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache%3Awww.giantitp.com%2Fforums%2Fshowt hread.php%3Ft%3D259783&oq=cache%3Awww.giantitp.com%2Fforums%2Fshowthread. php%3Ft%3D259783&aqs=chrome.0.57j58.1508j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) as you gain levels. However the class is very forgiving and the arcane swordsage is even more so.

How it your DM houseruling the "Arcane Swordsage" to work? There are a lot of different possible interpretations.
