Clarification on Level Loss

When a character loses a level through energy drain/raise dead etc, do they revert to the absolute beginning of the previous level?

ie, a 5th level character 100xp short of 6th level dies, and is raised. Is he now at the very beginning of 4th level, xp-wise?

No, they revert to the middle of 4th level.

The character’s new XP total is midway between the minimum needed for his or her new (reduced) level and the minimum needed for the next one. If the character was 1st level at the time of death, he or she loses 2 points of Constitution instead of losing a level.

Thank you! I knew there must be a rule for it somewhere. Silly me for looking near the rules for negative levels and energy drain when I should have been looking in the general magic section...
