Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 551 through 560.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on September 11th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/trytoguess/O-Chul.png 550 +1 BFF (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0550.html) sought solace by forging a friendship during what many would think was its darkest hour. And yet it seemed to be comforted even in its time of trial. While forging the friendship certainly helped, who can say that winning this round in the tournament didn't give it some comfort as well? Not me, that's for sure.

The virtual camera (or, at the very least our judging panel) will now turns its eye away from those strips, however. Why? Because it seems that a whole new set of contestants are barging on to the stage, demanding to be recognized. Forcefully. With lots of pointed sticks at us. Better to let them get on the stage, rather than wait for them to break out the fresh fruit, I say. :smalleek: And so, it looks like it is time for us to vote on....

555 half good. other half, also good.

I'm tempted by Vaarsuivus-being-a-jerk in 554, but it's the jokes about cliched "savage" speech in 552 that get my vote. Feels like a tighter page overall.

Tricky. But 552: And Yet the Turtle Got Away On His Own always makes me laugh, especially the orc grammar joke at the end. So I'm voting for that.

I will vote for #556.

Hmm, I think I'll go 522.

(Also, I never go the punchline to 560. Can anyone help me out?)

I think that's Cyclops (one of the X-Men) in the place of the cyclops from the Odyssey. I pieced that together right now, so I don't blame you for not getting it.

Yes. And if you look at the title of the strip, Meanwhile, His Teammate Was in Rhodes, it is referring to Colossus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossus_of_Rhodes). :smallamused:

I especially like the later strips of this batch. Some really nice lines there.

I'm going for 559 - An Introduction to Comparative Theology for :elan: "Ah ha! See? My god's power to get us into trouble is stronger than your god's power to get us out of it!"

555 All my half orcs havee kind of a sad backstory, the fact that therkla had loving parents surprised me greatly:smallbiggrin:

Not that easy. 555's figure of Therkla's parents always gives me an unexpectely intense joy, and 560's quote to Polyphemus is keen. But I'm going with 554: the punchlines win.

I personally found the orc island plot line one of the weaker ones, but I got a good chuckle out of 555.

So rare to see half orcs with loving parents.

*checks total number of votes*
*grimaces*

I know that it can be a little slow around the forums right now, but I totally think we can do better than 16 votes for this current batch of strips, folks. :smalltongue:

Well, I'd like to vote for 555, but that'd create a tie. And that's something I'm going to avoid in this edition of the Stick Awards. So, what else then? I like 552, but I have to admit I am enough of a LOST geek to want to go for 560 instead. The horrible, wonderful, pun at the end (and in the title) puts it over the top for me in this batch.

And with that....

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

:elan: 552 And Yet the Turtle Got Away on His Own (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0552.html) is the winner this week. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
