Is there a way to use a Relic without worshiping its Deity? What about being more than one alignment step away? Can UMD do this?

I believe a 40 UMD check can attain this for you. See Dragon # 329, page 67 However, unless you are some kind of divine caster or have True Believer, you won't be able to UMD a spell slot sacrifice which relics require. In addition to that, failing to attain a 40 UMD check might end badly for you as the god would likely be aware of the attempt and might feel the need to have the item smite you haha.
