The streets are always noisy, but today is different. Down a dirty alleyway you hear screams, roars, and the chanting of strange and odd expressions. You investigate and see that the alley has been covered in bright silks and perfumes have been sprayed to cover the common street odours.

"Oh 'Ello! Welcome to the League of Countless Tongues! The home of savage whispers and bellowed complements. What is the League? I hear you ask, well, we of the Tongues feel that the best way to bring the good folk of this town togethor is though the mavels of language." Fuum waves his hands through the air as he talks, feigning a regal manner, "Our current goal is to create slang, jargon and lingo. To make a dialect that the town can share and in turn teach the next generation of citizens as they arrive."
"I'd also like to add that I, and that rest of my troope would love to hear any rumors and stories you have, not only that a good tale will gain you some Nats! Nats are points that I hand out and are something you can gain through doing work..." Fuum coughs lightly, "...activities for the League, they are something you can compete for with your friends. The more you get, the more League items, titles and awards you will receive."

"But enough of this chatter, lets make up some words!"

((Ok gang, this is how its going down; Role-play as you would normaly, maybe tell Fuum a story and at the bottom of your post in double brackets write a slang word, how to use it and hopefully by the end of the thread our characters will start using our funky new dialect, much to the confusion of everyone else when we start using it outside of this thread.

Word: Lugger
Meaning: a tough person
Useage Example: "the guys from the Slums are real luggers"

Word: Bosh
Meaning: to win
Useage Example: "These ninjas came at me from all sides. I cast magic missile, bosh.

Word: Bozo
Meaning: a person who is stupid
Useage Example: "John is a bozo." ))

NPC's:
Rickter Scale: A large man with scaley, red skin. Rickter is the general assistant of Fuum and speaks in the classic hissing lizard voice. He is slow witted and quick to anger, but embarrassed about his speach impediments. Bozo is his favourite word. He hisses in red.

Hatha Odkin: Hatha appears as to be the classical witch, tall, thin and draped in black. She says little, but its always in nonsense and riddles. She cackles in sea green.

Frankly Darling: A blonde young boy wearing noblemens clothes, Frankly spends most of his time chasing girls, but when he's not busy he loves to talk to league members about absolutly anything! He boasts in blue.

((My characters are all tied up right now, but I've got some suggestions:
Caro = Crossbow ammunition
Ebtweens = Celestial tides of magic, probably linked to Astrology of some kind
Babk = A word or name that looks feasible when written down, but is impossible to pronounce
Kumped = Killed violently by an angry dwarf.))
((Partial Example: "He wouldn't sell him any caro, so the dwarf kumped him."))

A few gobbos walk into the alleyway, and greet the NPCs. They tell a story:

Right. What's all this about? You want a story? Fine then, we'll tell ye one, eh?
A right good one, Kajo. A right good one.
Right. So, the other day, we were down by the plaza, see? And we sees a wagon there. Looks normal like a mouse wagon, so we goes up and want to see what the wares are, bein' hungry and on break.
Real shifty character ran the place. I had me suspicions.
Right, so we goes up to the wagon, and we sez "What've ye got for sale?", and the man he sez "What're ye lookin' for?" and we sez "what ever ye've got."
So, the bloke pulls out a real nice sword. I mean, I never aint seen one so nice before. Nice runes all over it.
Swear the thing was picked, I do. No merchant runnin' out of wagon affords a sword that nice. Tried to sell it for us for five grand, 'e did. "Not likely", sez Kajo 'ere.
Shut up, will ya? It's me tellin' the damned story! So, anyways, I sez "Not likely we can afford that. We aints got the gold." And while he was goin' back inter his wagon, I got a good look at it. Damn thing's full o' picked stuff and marked goods. Besides the spices and pretty rugs, there's not a thing the cats'd allow in it.
Didn't I tell ye they guy was a rat? I knew it all along, I did.
Aye, a right rat, sellin; right on the Market Square. Honestly, goes to show. If yer a human, we can sell wherever ye want, whatever ye want. You see a gobbo try an' do that! The cats'd be on him in a day, they would!
Aye, they would.
So that's me story.

Fuum eyes beam as he listens to the tale end, "Yes, yes, it was your story! And it was ruddy good too, you earn yourselves a Nat each."

Fuum strides over to shake the hand of the new comer Floyd and blurt out another of his carefully prepared speeches, but Hatha glides in front of him, "Do you like cats, eh? Sivensticks boglad!"
Fuum waves his hand behind her, "You'll have to excuse my dear Odkin, she has a language all of her own, quite amazing really!"

Fuum face contorts, "Hmm, I think I'll have too sort out some business elsewhere, I trust you lot will look after any newcomers." Fuum smiles, "But I'll leave with a poem. Ahem.

The Fool
2007-03-11, 06:15 PM
The Fool enters through the streets, casually examining the fine cloth covering the walls.

"Greetings fellow linguists. This seems like as good a place as any to dispense my tales."

Rickter nods. He asks, "What do you havesss for ussss?"

The Fool bows courtieously and begins.

"First I need to give you a bit of background. You see, in my homeland there is a large sea that stretches far into the distance. We call it the White Sea because it sparkles an ivory color at all times throughout the day.

"Now, there was once a man named Nerad.
He was but a humble fisherman,
eager to fill his net and his belly
with fish from the White Sea.
He worked harder than most other anglers,
on account of his large family and needy wife.

She was from an aristocratic family,
but there times of wealth had waned.
To her shame she had to marry
a humble fisherman in order to sustain herself.

Now she always chastised him for whatever catch he made.
She cared not whether he caught none or more than a hundred,
she heckled him just the same.
Nerad was modest and took all of the abuse without saying a word.
You see, he truly loved her despite her intolerance for their conditions.
He would have done anything to make her happy.

On one particularly stormy day he rowed his tiny boat to sea.
Normally no fisherman would have been so foolhardy
but he had not caught any fish in almost a week,
and his family had grown hungry and malnourished.

Sure enough he was swept up in a monstrous pull.
Many miles away from the coast and his home
He was now in a fight for his life.
He rowed the oars furiously,
attempting to return back to shore.
But it was not meant to be.
For, after all of his energy had been spent,
things got far, far worse.

The sea parted, waves the size of houses rocking the boat to and fro.
The poor man clung for dear life, and, when he was drenched to the bone,
it rose from the darkest depths the sea.
All lands have there version of the beast.
The kraken in the north, the leviathan in the middle,
and the hydra in the southlands.
But, in the White sea, something far worse dwells.

The beast was unfathomably long,
it is said that it could easily fit a warbarge within its gaping maw,
it had no teeth, rather its mouth was fringed by a large mass of ganglia.
It had six eyes, three on each side and each as large as a man.

Nerad clutche the sides of the boat as it reared up above him.
He could not cry out. He dared not breath.
The creature watched him for what seemed like an eternity and,
finally it began to submerge.

Despite the crushing fear impounding him,
Nerad decided to risk his life to prove what he had seen.
He pulled out a huge harpoon that they used
against the larger sea creatures.
Mustering all of his strenght he flung it into the massive creature.

The barb pierced the behemoth's eye,
and it let out a scream that revertebrated to the farthest hills.
It thrashed wildly as the blood poured out of its eye,
bleaching the bright sea a brilliant red.

The beast crashed down beneath the waves,
taking the fisherman's supposed prize with it.
When the waves stopped Nerad found that he was alone,
far from land, and in greater danger than ever before.

He pulled upon strength which he had never felt before,
he practically flew atop the water as the beast shot through the surface.
Narrowly missing the poor man and his boat the behemoth lunged forward.
It dove in front of him, sending a huge push
twice the size of a man towards the boat.
Somehow he managed to continue on, braving the waters,
surviving the beast, and enduring exhaustion.

"The only indication that this story ever happened was the huge patch of red water in the White Sea. To this day sailors and fisherman avoid it, and no fish dare come within a mile of it. The beast has not been seen in over a thousand years, and it is felt that the great serpent can devour the very gods themselves. Thankfully none have yet encountered it since."

The Fool smiles weakly and glances over at all present, gauging their reactions.

(( Word: Pull
Meaning: Strong undercurrent
Usage Example: "Poor Timmy was dragged under because of that huge pull!"

Word: Push
Meaning: Large Wave
Usage Example: "That push just crushed poor Timmy!" ))

[hr]

The people present at the time star to converse and when they look back to see him, The Fool was gone. He had disappeared without a sound.
