Bard multiclass possibilities?

I'm playing a half-elf bard in my HotDQ playgroup, and recently another player entered the group with pretty much exactly the same character. I was a little miffed, so at the end of the session we agreed to diversify a little to avoid stepping on each other's toes. We wants to multiclass as a fighter (and later warlock, if we ever get to that point) to gain a little more martial capability, and probably will take the College of Valor feature later on.

What can I do to make my bard significantly different from his? I definitely think the College of Lore is the archetype I want, and I was considering either dipping a bit into rogue to gain that sweet bonus to skill checks, or perhaps something dipping into something more magic-based.
