To post a thread asking where one could find other forums that are okay with discussing topics not GiTP friendly (like history/religion/politics)? So long as the the actual thread is explicitly not a place to discuss those things?

Sheriff: You're better off using Google, going to a forum that does discuss these things and asking there about other forums, or using some other means.

No matter what you say in the OP, the topic of where to discuss religion/politics is about religion/politics. Maybe only superficially, but enough to trigger the Forum Rules. And the responses are likely to violate the rules even more significantly, especially if they tell you anything beyond the name of a forum, like what they discuss or why they are good.

So no, that's not really okay here. At best, it'd be a whole thread of slight violations of the Forum Rules.

To further expand on Roland's point, such a thread would inadvertently reveal the political/religious leanings of other posters based on which websites they recommended, given that many of the places for such conversations are skewed toward one particular point on the political or religious spectrum. Or maybe not even inadvertently, as some people would relish the opportunity to consciously reveal their allegiances by pointedly "recommending" sites that promote their own brand. Such revelations would potentially color future forum conversations between posters on opposing sides of the issues.

So it wouldn't just be against the letter of the rules, but the spirit of them as well.
