There is no "list" because profession is a catchall for literally anything that makes you a living.

Just do a search for medieval professions if you need some ideas. You can start here (http://arcana.wikidot.com/list-of-medieval-european-professions).

I happen to like Profession (The Doctor). It's like having Knowledge (All Things); situationally useful, when the situation you're in is "mortal peril every day."

Seriously, though, just pick a profession, and talk to your DM about its applicability. This is one of those areas where it's very hard to go wrong, unless you pick something like Profession (Solar Engineer) in Ravenloft, or such.

There's one exception. Stormwrack gives Profession (sailor) which has a number of discrete uses on board a ship.

If you're looking to optimize a profession skill, Profession (Siege Engineer) has an 8th level vestige that gives you +16 competence bonus to it.

thanks for the hints. i will just pick an appropriate profession.

any professions of note? ones that are supported by rules and character options? i know of sailor and now siege engineer.

Sublime Chord requires 6 ranks in Profession (Astrologer); Fatespinner and Luckstealer require Profession (Gambler). Zhentarim Spy gains new cover identities by taking ranks in lots of different professions.
