Hard knock life for those prisoners.

In the kingdom of Talingarde, many crimes may send you to Branderscar Prison, but the sentence has but one meaning. You are wicked and irredeemable. Each of you received the same greeting when you arrived. You were held down by rough hands and branded upon the arm with a runic F. The mark signifies ‘forsaken’ and the painful scar is indelible proof that each of you has betrayed the great and eternal love of Mitra and his chosen mortal vassals.

Condemned, you face at best a life of shackles and servitude in the nearby salt mines. Others might await the “gentle” ministrations of the inquisitors so that co-conspirators may be revealed and confessions extracted. Perhaps, some of you will be spared this ordeal. Perhaps instead you have come to Branderscar to face the final judgment. In three days, the executioner arrives and the axe falls or the pyre will be lit. Through fire or steel, your crimes will be answered.

You have all been chained together in the same communal cell dressed in nothing but filthy, tattered rags. Manhandled and mistreated, any finery you once possessed is either ruined or long lost. No special treatment has been given any prisoner – male or female, commoner or noble – all of the forsaken are bound and imprisoned together. Your feet are secured by iron cuffs tethered by one long chain. Your arms are secured to the wall above by manacles. A guard is posted right outside the cell day and night. Little thought is given to long term accommodations. At Branderscar, justice comes swift and sure.

Escape seems hopeless. You have all been well searched and every attempt to conceal anything on your person has failed. And if you could somehow slip your bonds and fly out of this prison, where would you go? Who from your former life would want anything to do with the forsaken? Despised, alone and shackled – all that you can do now is await your doom.

For each of you, your old life is over. For each of you, hope is a fading memory. For each of you, justice will be fairly meted. And who can blame fair Talingarde after what each of you has done?

Anna sits in her shackles, simply thinking. It had been her ritual since arriving at the prison. Focus on her hate. Harness her rage. She tried for the millionth time to summon her magic, to shatter the bonds that held her. And nothing. Too hot, she needed the cool chill of the ocean, of the ice and frost, and her anger was none of that. It begged for outlet.

At least Regina was here. Small comfort for those doomed to die, but in Branderscar, you took what you could get. Anna looks to the Bird woman, sadness on her face. "No luck. I just can't summon it." Anna sits back dejectedly, her chains clinking in time with her motions, slight though they were.

She was trying to time the guard checks and rotations, but even that was difficult. Time stood still inside the prison walls.

Calros was at peace, it's quite, quite enough to here a pin drop, or the screams from the interigation room, he loved it. The sounds were like music when they came. But then the silence was interupted by the women next to him. Fine he thought if we must end the silence I will end it. "Cannot summon what, women?" He said shifting into a slightly more comfortable position, the sounds of his chains echoing lightly through the stone room.

"My magic. If I can get some ice going, I might be able freeze these chains and shatter them. Unless you fancy dying here?" The other man looked displeased at her noise, but honestly Anna could care less. If he wanted to sit meditating on his execution, that was his problem. She was getting out of here, if she had to drag three other people with her.

Eyliana peered at the floor, looking for anything. A desperate plant fighting for survival, seeds left by a guard, perhaps a drop of spilled oil, anything. But there was nothing to make explosions from or poison or anything... all that studying and this is the result. She would even be happy with rat droppings, but the idea did disgust her and a send a chill trough her spine. The chains rattled with her, making more noise then she expected. "It is cold here..." A vague response to the others talking, her monotone voice struggling to be even heard. "It is so cold without..." She couldn't even say the words.

"Bah this is not cold, this warm by my standards. And why didn't you say you wanted out, of course i want out but we have to work together. Even if you could freeze them you need strength to shatter it. Now would you like to see strength?

Toxic Mind

Anna's smile is predatory. "I have seen men fight wind and water to survive on a deck that spent more time sideways than lying flat. Show me this vaunted strength." If she was hoe at with herself, Anna did not dislike the fellow, but showing weakness of any kind was anathema to her person now. If he truly was as strong as he implied, he could be useful to her not only in escape, but also in her further goals. She shifts, the chains clinking. The scars on her back were acting up, and they did not like being confined in such a way.

The other girl speaks, but Anna barely bothers to listen. Until she came up with something useful, she was just dead wait a far as the pirate was concerned.

I didn't want to mod the setting, but am I allowed to cast spells? Because enlarge person might be helpful in ripping said chains out of walls, and ray of frost was the plan for freezing the chains.

Spells are fine to cast. Just having it so the guards won't notice.

"Allow me to show you some true strength." Calros straightened his back just a tiny bit, closing his eyes to focus. After sitting like that for a moment, his eyes opened and revealed a that his dark blue eyes had become brighter. With this subtle change his muscles grew in strength and his height increasing by about 5 centimeters. "This is the strength of magic" His voice deeper than before, and then his muscles stopped growing and his rage began. Quickly he tried to break the chains connecting them to the wall. "RRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHH" his scream let out as he tried.

Spending a single round of rage successful or not dropping it after the 6 seconds.

The shackles bend slightly under the strength of Calros, to no avail. He is left panting along side the others as the posted guards mend outside the room bang the door.

"Oi, be quiet in there!" The peer in through the barred section of the door. "The ugly one thinks he a real he man doesn't he!" one of them scoffed.

Finally, something she could work with. "Why don't you come in here and show him how much of a man you really are? I haven't seen a real man in soo long." Anna's face instantly transforms into a sultry pout, emphasizing her full lips and the raven-black hair that frames her face. She leans forward, the thin tunic revealing tantalizing glimpses of her ample cleavage and the length of her long, albeit slightly dirty and chained, legs.

"Well, that is unfortunate," Reggie replies, as Anna mentions her inability to bring forth her magic. She sighs, as the only man in the cell tries and fails to break the chains binding him. "If it were that easy, then I doubt that this prison would hold many for long." She ignores the guards at first, but then notices what Anna is attempting and decides that being quiet might be for the best at the moment.

The small shards of light that came through the spaced bars were enough for the group of prisoners within the room to clearly make out the forms of the two voices being heard beyond the door.

"Hey would you look at that, we have some lasses 'n there that aren't too bad on the eyes Brell."

A hollow thud resonated across the room followed by a short grunt.

"What the hell are you on about....

Clamoring of sorts could be heard as bodies rustled around and pushing at each other.

"You didn't have to push my damn face you blasted fool!"

"I can't be letting you get an eyeful all to yourself and leaving none for your senior." He breathed out heavily. "My my, what a deadly sight that is. On the slab for crimes yet such a sight to have."

The door creaked open and the two guards came up to the edge of the cell looking in. "Looks like we may need to have some more interrogating to do there Hamen."

"I've been bad, and you know none of the men in here are real men anyways." Anna looks up at the guard from where she is kneeling. "Its so cold in here, I just need something to warm me up inside." Anna has no time to make hand gestures or signals to the other prisoners. All she can hope is that they are ready to take the opportunities that she might be about to provide them with. Just open the damn door.

A loud noise of feet coming down stairs is heard followed by a rolling voice. "Where the hell are you blasted fools!" The large and round man comes into the jail cell . Each one of you recognize this man as Sergeant Tomas Blackerly. This was the man who held the brand that marked each of them. He laughed as your skin burned. Right now, though the sergeant seems a little dazed.

"Um we were....um. Making sure the prisoners were properly secured sir!" one of the guards stammered.

It seems as though the sergeant is under the effect of some enchantment

He points at Calros and says gruffly:

“You there! That’s the scum! Get ‘em unshackled. If any of you makes trouble, they’ll earn a thrashing! Today’s your lucky day, scum. You’ve got a visitor. How you ever warranted such a fine lady is beyond me. Seems she wants to say good-bye. Now step lively. We wouldn’t want to keep her waiting.”

The guards flustered by the sudden appearance of the Sergeant, start unshackling Calros while looking at eachother briefly, then smirk. "We'll have to come back later for the pretty one there" They continue to bind Calros in a manner appropriate of a criminal.

Calros is escorted roughly to a meeting room down the hall and shoved into a chair. There waiting for him is a hauntingly beautiful woman in an elegant black dress and soft silken veil. She looks as if she is headed to a funeral. Her hair is so platinum as to almost be white and her eyes are a vibrant almost unearthly green. She clearly has been weeping.

Terrible things have happened in this room – telltale bloodstains in the corners and the faint odor of burning flesh.

“Oh, dearest,” proclaims the unfamiliar woman. “I’m so relieved you’re alive!” She quickly turns to Tomas. “Could we please have a moment alone, good sir? For pity’s sake?”

Tomas goes blank for a bit and then quickly agrees. “Of course, my lady. For you,’ tis no problem.”

You sense that this woman has some sort of power over the guard. Interesting.

As soon as the guards leave, her demeanor immediately changes. She drops all pretense of grief or concern. She is immediately all business. “Have you forgotten me, dearest?” the unexpected visitor says with a smirk, dropping her pretense of grief. “Call me Tiadora. We possess a mutual friend who would like to meet you and your fellow cell-mates. Unfortunately, our friend is unwilling to visit you in your present rather shabby accommodations so it seems you must escape. Don’t be so dour. Just because it’s never been done before is no reason you can’t be the first."

“If you manage that, cross the moors on the outskirts of town. On the old Moor Road you’ll see a manor house with a single lantern burning in the second story. There our mutual friend waits. That is all I know. He did want me to give you this.” She takes off her silken veil and wipes away a few fake tears with it. “Something to remember me by, dearest.”

She places the veil within your hand.

"Does the veil do anything?" Calros asked "or is it just how we are gonna get in that manchion of your friends" taking it he slowly wraps it around his for armand hand and ties it off

Tiadora raised an eyebrow and smirked, "Inquisitive minds always find a solution. You will find your answers in time, all our friend want's is a meeting. How you get there lies solely on you." She lets out a long sigh and leans into whisper, "Do mind to keep that veil as well, you wouldn't want to have a guard sullying my token of despair and grief now would you? One would say getting out of prison would be a far better alternative than loosing ones head in said prison, wouldn't you agree?"

Her message delivered, she rises and the guards return. Immediately, her demeanor once more changes and she is again a perfect picture of grief. “No, I can’t bear to leave you!” She gives the Calros a kiss on the cheek. The kiss is ice-cold and feels somehow alien and inhuman.

Tomas shakes his head. “I’m afraid it’s time, miss.”

She looks deep in Tomas’ eyes and says, “Thank you for letting me say good-bye. There’s no need to search my dearest. You are such a good friend for letting me see my dearest one more time.”

“Such a good friend,” Tomas repeats his voice almost mechanical. Then the watch sergeant seems to snap out of it and bows politely. “A pleasure, madam,”

She leaves unveiled. Her eyes meet Calros' one last time and she briefly gives him a wicked smile.

Returning to his cell, Calros is once again shackled. Once more he is secured in tightly locked bands around his ankles and his hands are shackled above his heads.

Lights are dimmed and the door to the block is locked once more. The guards leave though clearly two of the original guard are stationed at the door. You are now alone in your cell possessing only the veil and certainty that time is running out.

"So it appears someone has taken interest in us, and wants us to break out." Calros whispered back to her, shifting himself back into a comfortable position. She gave me this veil" nodding to his forearm, "It might be magical, might not, do you think you can figure out?" Calros adjusts his arm and unties the veil to try and pass it to her.

Eyliana also noted the veil and mumbles. "Owh if my hands were free, I could have understand it in half a minute, now I can only peer endlessly, hoping for a spark." She still sounds silent and monotone, but does take a small interest in the veil. Although her mind quickly wandered to the thousand escapes she planned, but each came back to the same damn problem, those shackles. She tried to wring her wrist trough it, hoping that somehow she could flatten her thumb and slip out of the wrist.

Anna peers at the veil carefully, trying to determine if it has any useful magical purpose. [roll0] "While it pleases me to know we might have some help on the outside, I wonder at their motives. But I suppose that will have to wait. I assume you all got the same message as I did?"
Anna waits until the guards look away, then summons her acid orb and begins using it to eat away at the chain. At the very least, the slag might be useful for the alchemist. Anna attempts to keep the corrosion on the bottoms of the chain. It could take a while, and she wouldn't want to be discovered..

"Assuming you hear a voice in yer head saying three days, then yes." Reggie replies, before lowering her voice, "Good to see you able to muster up your magic after all." Your acid starts to eat away at the chains would take 3 rounds of acid splash and would do 2d3 damage to the person you are freeing.

This appears to be a fine silk veil of gossamer cloth. Only as it is held and closely inspected can you see small cloth patches of various shapes.

You have read about this veil in some text that you had in your room. Known to some as the "Veil of Useful Items". What may look like a small gossamer cloth, is actually a transmuted item. The veil consists of an assortment of small patches that look like small items. In this case they are just smaller and in a different form. Ripping off one will form the aforementioned item in the hands of the person who removed it.
List of Items:

2 daggers
Bullseye lantern (full, lit and shuttered)
Hempen rope (50-foot coil)
Sack full of needed spell components (worth less than a 1 gp) and common clothes in the PCs sizes
Thieves Tools, Masterwork
Window (2 ft. by 4 ft., up to 2 ft. deep)
Potion of cure light wounds
100 gold pieces
Unholy Symbol of Asmodeus (silver)

You try to move your wrists around but you only ended up causing you to slightly bruise your wrists. The cuffs are just too tight.

Again sorry for the delay

The prison cell is eerily silent and the moving of chains echo slightly within the room. The flames of the torches can even be heard through the silence.

I can eat away at these chains, but it will hurt you. There's simply no way to get around your flesh and still get at the metal. I will not do so without your consent. Anna says. The fact of the mater was, eating through the links would take far longer, and still not free the manacles. She needed the orb on the thinner, and more important, cuffs that held Calros's hands. Which would mean the acid would burn him as well.

"If it's useful, sure. As far as I'm concerned all the bastards who work for this kingdom can burn. If you're willing to fight against them, you can come with. I'd prefer to not have to melt our friend's hands if I can prevent it." Anna says looking at Calros.

Reggie nods, "Be better to avoid any hand melting if at all possible." She looks over at Anna, "So for now, why don't you melt just the chains.
