To start you off: You have been hired by an Ian Turbrand, a prominent and leading citizen of Kingsholm, to recover the bones of the Forgotten King, a half legendary figure prophesied to return from the dead to save the kingdom in an hour of great need. Ian is afraid that if his bones are not returned the prophecy of the king's return cannot be fulfilled. Recently a group of Yuan-ti, led by a sorcerer named Xerous, fought adventurers while trying to steal these bones and the items interred with him. While Xerous and his men were defeated, the King's bones were stolen soon after, and Ian suspects a survivor from Xerous's forces, or a member of the Vanguard of Sertrous that Xerous was working for. A tunnel has been found in the Kingsholm graveyard that was not there before and is thought to be the path that the thief took.

Entering the Tunnel: Lightless space gives way to your illumination, revealing a restricted, steeply sloping tunnel that is maybe 5 feet wide and 7 feet tall. Posts of green wood hold up the walls. The air is damp, stinking with rot. How far the tunnel penetrates to the south is lost to darkness.

This tunnel was rapidly and rudely dug in the last month by someone using a combination of picks and magic. In fact, it has the look of an exploratory shaft sunk into the earth to locate valuable minerals.

As you continue down the tunnel the air seems to pulse ahead, bringing with it a scent like that which precedes the storm. The tunnel continues a little further into the darkness.

A concentration of earth power lies ahead.

Continuing down the tunnel the roughly hewn tunnel widens into a terrace, at least 20 feet wide and long, with a ceiling rising to 8 or 10 feet. The porch has no far wall, instead opening into a great, echoing hollow. This close to the cavernous rift, the air seems charged as if a great storm is imminent. The walls of the opening ascend and descend, moving closer together as they rise into darkness, forming a wider space as they go downward. Two humanoid forms lie unmoving near where the terrace drops off into the hollow.

You are entering an earthnode. A concentration of earth energy. The node proper would probably be at the bottom of the shaft.

There are tracks as if from a medium sized creature in boots in the dust by the ledge.

Feather falling into the pit you reach the bottom almost 200 feet below several seconds after beginning your descent, getting a good view of how it widened 150-ft down. When you do you find yourself in a circular hollow about 60-ft in diameter. Dust carpets its smooth floor, thickest near a dozen small holes, near the floor, that lead away from the area. Each hole is about 2 and a half feet wide, large enough that you ought to be able to squeeze through.

The air here feels alive with energy, and thick with the smell of developing lightning. Even the unattuned can sense that this is a place of magical power.

You can intuitively sense how to channel some of the area's power through yourself. By making an Int check (DC 11 + effective spell/power level) as part of using a spell/etc you can gain +1 to your caster/manifester level. In addition by resting 8 hours here and spending a 2nd level spell slot or 3 power points you can transport yourself and willing creatures to a linked earth node somewhere else.

The node's power has been used within the last week.

You can sense that this is a place where the elemental magical powers of Earth are concentrated and connected to a single other node of energy elsewhere on the world. It requires a certain amount of magic to fuel transposition through it, and requires you to meditate within for ~8 hours to attune to it to use this advanced property.

Note: You forgot the +2 synergy bonus on Spellcraft from having 5 ranks in Knowledge (Arcana); it is an important advantage because it means you made the DC. Your luck is bad by the way

Gale's breath sends some of the roaches scattering but they still pour from the other tunnels into the room. Even as Izzim gains the power of flight, and Gaius finishes creating the kaorti, larger roaches pour out. Two, the size of wolves, emerge from tunnels (1 and 10), four more bugs the size of Gaius emerging as well (2 from 2, 1 from 6 and 1 from 9). A horrible stench comes from the bugs, a reeking foul order, which turns the stomach (You are all sickened; each roach inflicted a save versus sickened so I went ahead and rolled).

The earth elemental rushes the large roach not in a cage striking it hard (13 damage) even as Izzim's spear bounces off of its carapace harmlessly. The roach strikes at the elemental, brutally seeking to attack the thing that just hurt it (13 damage to the earth elemental) and pulling it to the ground. The milling roaches on the ground bite the earth elemental (6 damage) ripping at the wriggling stone. Meanwhile the other large roach manages to disrupt the cage around it, before moving towards the kaorti (Used its standard and luck to escape the cage so no attack) even as two of the smaller roaches rush Itzal, giving a Gaius an opportunity to strike one on its way narrowly missing. The first pulls him to the ground striking at him with its mandibles (6 damage) and the second bites into his leg (6 more) even as the smaller bugs swarm over him (3 damage;A DC 10 Balance check is required to stand). The last two roaches rush Gaius but practically trip over themselves.

As the rush seems to have died down a mass of roaches rise up surrounding Izzim (DR prevents the damage and then some).

Summary: The elemental took 19 damage and was knocked unconscious. Others attacked Itzal for 12. The Kaorti cast Spider Climb on Gale who is now out of the tunnel, and Itzal will need to make a Fort save (DC 14) or be nauseated due to the swarm's distraction effect.

I will note that I just now realized how suicidally positioned the roaches are.

Itzal steps back, his weapon lengthening into a Qiang as he strikes hard at a roach.

Itzal falls to the ground and throws up.

Ah. Bugger.

Gale slides out of the hole, grabbing Gaius as he does. Itzal, if you're not too sick to climb once Gaius' construct casts on you, it's probably a good idea.

Recharge time: [roll0]
Not sure how the actions are being used here but if I can't grab him I won't.

As the roaches close in, Gaius clambers onto Gale, clinging with one hand, and then waves intricately with his mithral pen, a painted fist materializing in the air an instant before firing towards the large roach near Itzal. He orders his summons,"Defend him!" pointing to Itzal.

Draw Energy (Bludgeoning), standard action, ranged touch attack.

[roll1]
[roll2] If a concentration check is required.

Kaorti 1 has two rounds left (including this round).
Kaorti 2 has three rounds left (including casting spiderclimb on Itzal this round).

One Kaorti moves to aid Itzal, stabbing one of the two menacing Itzal its ribbon dagger moving between head and body removing it completely (crit 12 damage; still technically dying not dead but narrative), the other moves to Itzal imbuing him with magic.

OoC: I goofed up last time Izzim needs to save not Itzal :smallredface::smallredface:

Izzim squirms around, covered in the swarm. For the moment he could only concentrate on holding his lunch.
