View Full Version : Best Fighter Feats for a Cleric

I'm currently working on a Cleric who focuses on buffing and tanking (really just taing hits for anyone he can). The build goes into Ordained Champion at 7th level. At 7th level the Cleric, if he must worship Heronieous, will have both the Good and Law domain, whose abilities I find lack luster at best.

Ordained Champion gives you the chance to swap out Domain abilities for bonus Fighter feats. If I drop the Good and Law domain abilities that gives me two bonus fighter feats at 7th. If I do take this path, what bonus feats should I go for? What would be the most useful for a Cleric who wants to tank?

Extend Spell, Persist Spell, Divine Metamagic: persist :smallwink:

But seriously, with spells like Divine Power and Righteous Might you turn into a better fighter then the fighter, so stuff like Power Attack will work just fine

I currently have another thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?371132-Best-Metamagic-Feats-for-Buff-Debuff-Clerics) going where I'm asking for advice about metamagic feats to take. I'm specifically trying to stay away from persist because of the feat pre-reqs and the fact that many DM's find it a little too heavy on the cheese.

With my stats, in order of importance, being Wis > Con > Cha for the top three, I can't guarantee I'll have a 13+ Str to take Power Attack. I'm looking mostly to help allies take hits. If the 13+ Str does arise, I'd likely be more interested in Stone Power.

Quicken Spell, Divine Metamagic: Quicken Spell, Extra Turning.

Have you read this:

Trade out that Law domain power early on for some LAW DEVOTION you can ask your DM if you can switch that out.
Bonus to AC or Attack bonus as a swift action for one minute that scales with level to get you a bonus +7 sacred bonus and can be further powered by turn undead uses? Exactly.

Tanking in D&D is really more area control than soaking hits, so i'd go for Improved Trip and a reach weapon. Improved Initiative is always decent if you're out of other feats to take.

If you want to help allies to hit, why not play a Bardsader? It is tanky and a mega support. He can buff (not as good as cleric) but again, cheese inspire courage and all your party should be able to hit.
Inspire Courage + Song of the White Raven + Dragonfire Inspiration + Song of the Heart + Using a Lute + Inspirational Boost spell + many other things + Words of Creation.

When you party consisting in a Barbarian,Warblade,Melee Cleric and Bardsader have +22 to attack...**** gets real. When you exchange that for +44d6 on Uber Charger Barbarian, report your life.

I had not thought of that. That is atually perfect.

I was originally looking at a bardsader. I came to understand how tanking would have to work in D&D and I'm not all for it. I switched to Bard/Cleric so I could buff and debuff, as well as heal, allies. If it's still possible for me to do some minor tanking, I'll go for it. The focus has changed a bit now and I prefer the balance offered by a Bard/Cleric build.

Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush.

Then with your normal feats you can take Shock Trooper and Leap Attack.

1. Your opponents have REAL incentive to attack you as your AC is very low after shock trooper.
2. Whatever you charge, dies. This may make point 1 redundant.

Ohhhh this have to be chained with the other posts...right right...Fighter feats for Cleric? well...what about Intuitive Attack? If you chainging the 2 domains for feats. Dumb str and get intuitive attack + power attack. Uhm..Uhm...Get Knowledge Devotion via Cloistered Cleric. The Constant Guardian-Dutiful Guardian feats are also "tanky" and fighter bonus feats. Martial Stance and Martial Study are always good.

Hi

I take it this is a 3.5 thread, or I'd suggest Warpriest (Pathfinder).

Diminished spellcasting, but extra Combat Feats (3rd, 6th, 9th etc), couple of Blessings replace Domains, plus Fervour. Oh, and there is minimum dice damage as well. (D6 lvls 1-4, D8 lvls 5-9, D10 lvls 10-14 etc). Makes it ideal for light weapon users. Fervour can aslo be used to self buff as swift action, ignores somatic component, but can only affect yourself. [Eg.Bless will only affect you]. Ther'es also Sacred Weapon & Sacred Armour too.

Ask your GM if they'd allow PF classes in their game. PF is supposed to be backwards compatible.

As for feats:
Big 2 Handed Wpn - Wpn Focus, Pwr Attack, Cleave, Wpn Specialisation etc
2 Wpn Fighting - Wpn Focus, Wpn Specialisation, Wpn Finesse, 2 wpn fighting, Improved 2 wpn fighting, dodge. etc

Thanks
