View Full Version : A player that is pure evil

She is pure evil. She is determined to ruin my campaign and the fun for everyone else. This is not form her being in character, she is just sadistic. And creepy. And violent. We shall call her Evil Shrew. Examples of her malevolence:

Me: You enter the vast hallowed hall of the Cathedral Helm. If you present yourselves respectfully you may just get passage to Maztica...
Evil Shrew: Veronia strips
Me::smalleek:

Evil Shrew: (Interrupting romantic scene between two characters, Andre and Amra). "She used to be lesbian". Veronia says as she pushes Amra aside and forcefully kisses Andre.
Me::smallmad:

Me: A piece of paper flutters on the breeze...
Evil Shrew: Veronia throws it into the fire.

One day, I had had enough. I told her to leave. Then, three things happened before anyone knew what had hit them.

A) She attempted to punch me.

B) Somehow a cardboard DM screen saved me from serious injury.

C) She grabbed my Forgotten Realms Campaign setting and ran.

She returned it by throwing at the back of my head at rehearsel for a play our school was doing, the Elephant Man.

The characters Andre and Amra got back together because Andre still loved her and thought it was vaguely hot that she was bisexual.

So, why are you gaming with her?

I agree. I don't think you should game with someone who actively tries to ruin it for everyone else.

She attempted to punch you and then threw a book at your head. I don't know what country you live in, but here in America, that constitutes assault, and it is a crime. As was the malicious theft of your book, whether or not it was returned to you. You don't need advice from an Internet forum, you need to call in the authorities and have her charged with assault and theft of your property.

Well I am no longer gaming with her. I can barely stand to be on the same side of a stage with that harpie!

I knew she was probably going to return the book, but I decided to let the punching go because we are only minors and I wasn't angry enough to call the police. I did recomend her for counceling, but at my school the councelors suck.

*nods* Glad to hear it. Worst thing you can do is continue to game with someone you hate. Or Vice-versa.
I once gamed a group wherein the DM and one of the players were romantically involved, until he dumped her. Since that day, they've hated each other. The first couple of gaming sessions afterwards were pretty awkward, as neither of them was terribly mature about it. Especially He.
Eventually, we had to find a new DM. :smallfrown:

Tell her parents?
It's not as if you didn't have witnesses.
Although often the parents are part of the problem.

Wow, if she were an NPC in a game of Changeling:the Dreaming she'd be an unseelie pookah. Or unseelie whatever. Or a gremlin specialised in destroying social situations instead of machinery.

Well, it looks like you have taken care of the problem appropriately. If you are merely looking to add this horror story to the plethera of horrible player/dm stories yours would be one of the ones probably near the top:)

As far as I can tell, she's being a pathological jerk to everyone. So either she loves everyone in the party, or she hates everyone in the party, and I think the latter is much more likely.

Did it ever occur to you that she likes you? You know, in that way?

But her character was a lesbian, kissing female NPCs and everything.

Honestly, she sounds like she's unbalanced. Your group is better off without her.

No, I know some people poke fun at those they have a crush on but they do not try to punch them in the face.

And Andre was the male, she kissed a man, not a woman

Well, at least this story has a happy ending. Which doesn't involve a cricket bat.

Everyone must learn, at some point in their lives, that some people are just failures at being human beings.

You appear to have learned this; that is one good thing that's come out of the situation.

Curious, how old is this girl? If she's young, this isn't so strange. If she's older, than there is cause for worry.

But, don't go crazy and call the cops or something. That'd be overreacting.

Sounds like a maturity thing. You should probably see if you can speak to her outside the context of the game and make some form of peace (though, don't bring her back to the game). Hard to say why she would act this way, except as a cry for attention.

You could slit her throat while burning her?

Also, remember that if you want to burn her legally, you have to be christian and born in middle ages (j/k, no offense towards christians  )

Chalk little miss nutjob up to experience. Never game with her again. Have as little to do with her as possible. If needs be take out a restraining order and carry Mace. Make sure (through mutual friends) she's taking her anti-psychosis medication, rather than selling it. :smallwink:

I will take a different perspective from the others. Maybe she ws a pain in the neck and the game would run better without her, but asking her to leave in front of other people was humiliating for her. And if you guys are in high school or earlier, her reaction seems to me pretty predictable.

I think you were rightly angry (and I have been the same both as DM and as an employer), but I usually take care of guys I want to get rid of by asking for some privacy and telling them to leave. Humiliating people in front of others can trigger very negative emotions. Of course, you should never game with her again, or the result won´t be pretty.

And as a side note, I also think she liked someone in the group...

Oh that's why Belkar is in your avatar.

Well, I didn't see it mentioned that you told her to leave in front of others, if you did, you probably shouldn't, even if she was a... not-kind person. Also, if that is how she always act, I think all of you guys should talk to her, and see if she has any problems, you know, with family or something like that.

I hate to bring up the whole drug thing, but that is also a possibility. How long have you known her? Has she always been like this? Did her personality change suddenly (over a month or two. . .). Hardly the same exact situation, but we booted a guy in my high school gaming group (many many moons ago) because he'd become a real jerk for no apparent reason. Eventually he straightened up, was allowed to join in again, and eventually it came out that he had been into some pretty heavy stuff at the time.
Of course, the first thing that came to my mind was that she might have needed some attention, specifically from you. And don't think the hitting thing excludes her being attracted to you. Being attracted to someone, and then being pushed away by the person you're attracted to can kinda hurt. And if she is particularly young, she may not have the coping mechanisms to deal with it.
Personally, I don't like having enemies floating around out there that are completely unpredictable, and you never know when they are going to show up to give you a bad day. I'd talk to her and try and make peace, if you can. At least then you can go to your drama class and not have to deal with any . . .. er. drama. ;-)

i know a guy who says he knows someone who claims for fifty dollars he can solve all your problems, but i wouldn't even go that route.

honestly, what you want to do is make enough peace so you know at least there will be no violence. she may just be a violent person. i was once stabbed in the shoulder (with a tack) by someone who liked me, but she was being flirty and then pinching me, things like that. i don't think she likes you in that way, but it's possible.

anyway, i know what its like having a girl hate you, i had to block her number because she was calling me and telling me things like she was carrying a knife all over because she didn't know when she would see me again. thats loads of fun, trust me, make your peace and see where things go from peace.

Analysis from a reformed "psycho girl":

Your story reads, up until the part that you asked her to leave, that she is indeed screaming for attention from her Special Person. After that, who knows. The point is that the social behaviors are so screwed up that normal channels probably won't work--talk and she'll cling, call authority and she'll get revenge, and dear GOD do not date. Since it sounds like you'll still have to spend time around her (the school play), ignoring her won't be totally effective.

The only thing that stopped me was a letter jammed into my hands between classes, sealed, with the admonition "Read this". It was not a love note. It was an explanation that I was exhibiting very scary behaviors. Explanation, with names and dates and places and times. Not condemnation, not exaggeration, not a request to stop, not even the writer saying that he was weirded out by it. I didn't know how to react, and responded by completely cutting myself off from the writer.

First off, she isn't evil.

She is pretty clearly seeking attention, exhibiting some classic behaviours of certain types of kids. Most behaviours people exhibit are learned from their environments, something you have to keep in mind.

First off, it's my guess that she's more on the emo/goth side of the fence than anything else. She probably wears a lot of black, and is depressed all the time.

I'd also guess that her parents probably smack her around some, or her dad smacks her mother around.

She most likely 'likes in that special way' either the player of the male character in the situation you described, or the player of the female character. I'd guess the player of the female character.

She probably started coming to the games to be around one or the other of them. She doesn't really care about the game, and doesn't have that much invested in it. Secretly she probably resents the game for taking up too much of her 'special friends' time.

Which helps explain her game-destructive behaviour.

She's acting the way she is because:
1. She's not invested in the game - she doesn't care if it sucks.
2. She's screwing around because she's bored
3. She wants the game to end so she can do something else with her 'target'
4. She wants attention from her 'target', and doesn't care if it's negative or positive.

She sticks around, probably because it's the only time she gets to spend with the person she's interested in. Which, coincidentally, was why she was angry enough to take a swing at you when you said she couldn't come anymore.

The reason she's probably become more and more difficult to deal with over the past few months (you didn't spell it out, but I'd guess that to be the case), is the in-game relationship between andre and amra.

She's having trouble seperating that from reality, and, as such, is growing jealous. It's this that's pushing her over the edge.

I believe she lusts after amra's player, because the situation you describe sounds like she's trying to punish someone, maybe break the two up, and she'd want to make the chosen partner of the object of her affections look bad.

So she's after amra's player, and you just got in the way.

If it's any consolation, you did the right thing. You should approach Amra's player and ask if there is was/anything going on between him/her and the girl in question, if you want corroboration of my theories.

Although it's very likely that this is a 'secret crush', given the supposed 'abused' nature of the girl in question.

I think you're making lots of assumptions there ravenkith.
In general, I'd like to stress some things other posters have said:
The girl is most likely not pure evil. Only people with (specific) mental disorders enjoy other people's suffering. This doesn't sound like one of them.
This means there is another explanation for her ruining the fun. It could be she has a crush on another player, or she has a hard time socialising in general (which could again have an enormous array of reasons). I prefer not to speculate about this, the people directly involved will be much more capable of judging what the reasons are.

If you (the OP) need more ideas for what the causes of this girl's behaviour might be in addition to those posted already, he can post about that.

On to a way to deal with the situation as it is now (as far as we know at any rate)
It is probably the wisest thing to make peace. Having 'enemies' (however real and/or dangerous) is always a bad thing.
Now, how to go about this. Let me put one thing first: Social situations can be a bitch. You already know about the painful situations that can arise when you reject somebody (by sending the girl away; This is not a value judgement). Approaching her to make peace will be just as hard, if not harder.
But if you go into a situation with honesty and good intentions, a positive outcome is much more likely.
I think it's a bad idea to try and think in advance about what you want the outcome to be. You can obviously think about what can happen and which scenario you'd like, but don't try to steer events in that direction. You could also mention that you regret sending her away in front of the whole party (but only if you truly regret it! Honesty!)

Bleh, trying to make my comment more specific, but that only makes it work less well. Just try to be honest and mean well.

I have noticed that the OP have not posted much since the we began to back up the girl's reasons. A bit.

I think you're making lots of assumptions there ravenkith.

Urm yeah.

Sure.

That's why my posts include words like 'i guess'.

To demonstrate that it is, in fact, opinion.

OTOH, I actually have a degree in communications, and english, and part of my training to get that far included several courses on perspective taking, and the various tendencies of human beings.

My post is based on a couple of ideas:

1. Human beings are products of both nature and nurture, with nurture being dominant: a violent individual can be raised to act correctly, a peaceful individual can be raised to act the barbarian.

2. Human interactivity follows rules. (Read a comm studies textbook).

3. Using the rules, it is possible to backtrack certain conversations to determine the root causes and motivations behind the conversations.

4. Human motivations primarily come in the forms of 'wants' and 'needs'. A want can be restrained/ignored/overcome. a need cannot, and must be fulfilled. Over time, a want can become a need. Very rarely do needs become wants. (this helps explain addictions).

5. The player was getting something she wanted or needed from the game. Given that the game does not offer any tangible rewards, it must not be something tangible.

The game can offer affirmation. However, for this to happen, the plot must progress.

The player is actively acting against the plot. SHe is not seeking affirmation.

The game can offer friendly companionship. However, the player was engaging in disruptive behavior that precluded this reward.

The game can offer a venue for attention seeking, but there are other, easier venues for such (theatre class for example, acting out at school).

So if she is attention seeking, it must be from a specific person in the group.

Why? a number of possible reasons, but her response to the in game kiss was to inject herself into the situation, one she didn't need to have involvement in.

Therefore, she had something at stake in that kiss.

Probably the attention of one of the two players.

With that in mind, we look at the act itself, and the words surrounding it. She wants to be accepted, by her chosen target, rather than force herself: she wants attention, any kind at this point.

She wants to matter to the person she's interested in.

Ok. So would she 'kiss' that person? No. A kiss is a kiss, and doesn't last, especially in a game, where there is no physical contact.

But irritation, hate, these last, and burn in a person's mind for days, weeks, even years.

She even said that her character used to be a lesbian, and then kissed the guy character.....

She wanted the female character to come in and kiss her, prompting a 'sharing' relationship in the game, probably hoping that it would lead to something similar in real life....

But it's all still guesswork....

But probably pretty good guesswork....

Must. . .resist . . . urge . . . .to argue with . . . Ravenkith ;-)
Can't fully agree with you Rave, since most of your discussion is based on only one of 3 or 4 examples of this persons erratic behavior. I agree with your analysis (good judge of character), but your analysis focuses only on the one romantic encounter, instead of the general trend in behavior (paper in the fire, and random nakedness at the cathedral).

Regardless, no one responding on this board can really tell you what exactly is wrong with this young lady (we can give some good guesses, but that's about it). You (the OP) will have to make that judgement for yourself based on what you know about this person. I agree, you were right for asking her to leave (thought a more tactful method might have worked better, with less opportunity for injury ;-). The thing you need to focus on now is trying to make peace with this lady. Who knows, maybe a little kindness and compassion is all she really needs? Y'know, someone to talk to. Be the first to extend the olive branch. If she breaks it, at least you tried . . .

Actually, she sounds like one of a dozen different "routes" my psychiatrists believed I could possibly end up like, given a few random thought processes that likely wouldn't be seen or noticed by anyone else until I suddenly just started acting on them. Apparently, I'm a very crazy person.

Anyway, in that case, I do vaguely remember mulling over that particular possibility. Basically, it was a paranoid sort of "I can't trust or depend on anyone" feeling mixed with a "But I need to" paradox. Sort of like waking up and deciding you're scum, and everyone knows you're scum, but you really, really hope no one will notice. So, I would (hypothetically, since I ultimately chose a different "route") act out in a manner that would be confusing and possibly frightening towards everyone else in order to circumvent real insight into my self, which I considered full of a variety of weaknesses, and instead turn that around. So if I were to attack you for any reason, it would be because I really, really needed you to accept me for a lie because I don't want you seeing who I really am. Oh, and I'd secretly have a desire for you to sort of coddle me and tell me I'm actually a great guy.

So, while I wouldn't suggest gaming with this girl, it sounds like you at least sort of care what happens to her. Try to act friendly and break that anti-trust layer by being accepting despite her outbursts. Really, in that sort of darkness, a single outreached hand can be the sun and stars in the sky.

I just don't know what to do anymore. The other two players were just roleplaying, there was no kissing or as far as I can tell no real romantic emotions. I don't know what is making this girl lash out, I could ask her friends but they are just as scary as she is (Though that may be the reason). Until I figure out what is wrong with her, I have no choice but to simply wait for her to calm down and mature.
