View Full Version : How many systems do you use?

Simple enough question, how many systems do you and your group(s) use with any regularity? For the purposes of regularity, lets say any system you've played more than once in the past year qualifies.

For clarity, by system I mean the mechanics, not simply different games. If you play HERO, Pulp HERO and Fantasy HERO, that's still just one system. Same goes for different varieties of WoD games, different settings using GURPS, D20 variants and so on. They count as one system, even if different games.

List them here if you feel like it.

* D20 (Dungeons and Dragons, D20 Modern, D20 Star Wars)
* World of Darkness (Vampire the Masquerade, Werewolf the Apocalypse, Mage the Ascension, Hunter the Reckoning)
* AD&D

D20
Arrowflight (which rawks, by the way)
Red Dwarf RPG

* AD&D

Looks like four to me; D&D, two D20 games, four oWoD games and AD&D.

A brace is only 2... Brace of Pistols, Brace of Pheasants. All pairs.

Not especially important for the purposes of the poll, is it?

Uh... Dungeons and Dragons isn't d20?

Anyway, I play the following:

Mutants and Masterminds (based on d20, yes, but it's not the same system at all)
D&D
Old World of Darkness games (mostly Vampire)
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Uh... Dungeons and Dragons isn't d20?

Fuzzy area, same way you've identified M&M as not D20.

Uh, actually more than I initially thought. We've played:

D&D
Shadowrun
Exalted
Weapons of the Gods

Edit: Oh, and old WoD and new WoD, but that didn't last long because we have major issues with both systems.

I use D & D, Shadowrun, and Exalted.

D&D 3.5, and Unknown Armies. The exact ratio of how much seems to vary.

Tabletop, 0. I haven't had a tabletop game in the past year, alas.

Forum, 8. Rifts, D&D, Mutants&Masterminds, d20 Modern, d20 Star Wars, a homebrew based off Fallout's SPECIAL system, a homebrew based off the card game SPANC, and a homebrew based off making things as simple as possible while remaining somewhat d20ish. 9, if the board game Diplomacy counts as a "system".

This apparently makes me one of the most diverse players in the thread. Weird.

Board games don't count. This is roleplaying games only.

Just D&D 3.x for me although our group is talking about the Star Wars RPG.

D&D, AD&D, D20 (not sure where the definitions change as D&D is VERY different to AD&D 3.5)
Hackmaster (farily close to AD&D but far enough to be Different)
Star Wars D6
GURPS
New World Of Darkness
Everway (Must play that again!)
& Many Many Homebrews

With regularity.... D&D3.5 and NWOD

D&D and WoD (the old version)

That's what's regularly played. However, the college club I'm part of hosts a thrice-yearly weekend of open-to-all one-shots, and everything from GURPS to Tales from the Floating Vagabond to Rifts to custom-built scenarios to Feng Shui gets played.

* D&D- playing, planning to DM as soon as I convince my DM that Eberron isn't spawn of Satan
*Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay- planning to play
* My own homebrewed D20 system- DMing, as noone besiedes myself knows the rules.

My groups have varied interests. Most of them stick with d20 variants/settings (FR, ECS, Mutants & Masterminds, Game of Thrones, etc. . )
One of my groups likes to use various things. Lately they've enjoyed the games from Atomic Sock Monkey (Truth and Justice particularly).

Systems I've ever played:

* Storyteller System (classic WoD and Exalted; I've played a very little bit of nWoD, wasn't impressed, and have no particular plans to repeat the experience)
* D&D 3.0/3.5 (exclusively 3.5 nowadays)
* Cyberpunk 2020
* Shadowrun
* BESM

Lately, only the first two entries on that list see regular play, but the others I plan to play/would play if given the opportunity.

Let's see. Within one year and counting the exalted one shot we'll be running soon...

Exalted
D&D
Star Wars d20
Risus
Paranoia XP
BESM 2e Revised
BESM 3e
BESM d20
The Imp Game

Edit: Can't forget that one failed homebrew too.

Hmm... Guess I undershot when I went with the second option. Don't ask me how many systems I own though. That would make me feel sad.

Within the last year, just d20--regular D&D and Iron Heroes. We did play some White Wolf before that, though.

D&D, M&M, SW d6, and GURPS long ago.

Harnmaster and AD&D 2nd edition (houseruled a bit) are my two regular systems. I will occasionally play a GURPS game.

Now:
DnD (Dming)
WFRP (playing)
WoD (playing)

Ever:
d20 modern and starwars d20
Drakar och demoner (translates to "dragons and demons", it's a Swedish system)
Mutant (a Swedish system)
Western (a random d20-ish system)
A guy's homebrewed system (Aliens vs. Predator)
GURPS (ok, one time)

And on a convention, I played Call of Cthulhu and Castle Falkenstein, though so rules-light that it doesn'y count.

Hmmm, define regularly?

d20 D&D 3.5 and Star Wars
Heroes Unlimited/Rifts/Ninjas & Superspies/TMNT/Robotech
AD&D 2nd Edition

Have played in the past but not likely to play again:
Shadowrun
D6 Star Wars
And Various homebrewed systems

Hmm... regularly?

DnD 3.5 and Firefly (which is the best system nobody's heard of, by the way)

If you are counting stuff we've only played a few times...
A homebrew semi-d20 Final Fantasy game
GURPS
Shadowrun (which was fun, but we couldn't get a group together)
White Wolf's Mage: the Something, I forget what (which was a lot LESS fun that I expected)
Deadlands

in the last 2 months we have gone though Fractured Destines ( a game i'm working on), Spirit of the Century, Whispering Vault, Inspectors, and a scifi homebrew game. This tuesday we're playing Prime Time Adventures and the week after that starting up a game of Burning Wheel and Dictionary of Mu (it's a Sorcerer add on thingy)

Savage Worlds
Hackmaster

D20, with the True20 variant used in Mutants and Masterminds, currently. So, 2.

Have played many more.

In order of most to least usage:

d20/D&D
oWoD
Exalted
nWoD
LARP oWoD (which is very, very different mechanically)
Chaosium Call of Cthulhu
Palladium 2e
All Flesh Must Be Eaten

and soon: Pendragon.

Dnd 3.5
D20 modern
D20 starwars

So I guess only one since they’re all based off of D20. Not that I’m biased I just haven’t had the opportunity to learn anything else.

D20, WoD, and about 3-4 game systems I made up myself, one of them more then just once. I used to love making up game systems. But only the one was ever good enough after the trial run to play multiple times, even though it always eventually lead to mass hysteria shortly into those "campaigns".

Isn't that the Mind's Eye Theatre, or am I thinking of something else?

That is indeed MET, but not a lot of people recognize that acronym.
