I mean, if their essence returns to the home plane, and they have no separation of body and soul, doesn't that mean their remains would just dissipate through the planar barriers back to their home plane as soon as they died?

Fiendish Codex 1 has a table to randomly roll on to determine what happens to a demon's corpse after death. It's possible to recover them intact.

There's also a Revive Outsider spell, as well as a specification in Complete Divine that true resurrection can bring one back, "sifting through the plane and reconstituting it" - which is consistent with the spell description's statement that it works on them:

Actually what happens when an outsider dies in another plane is their essence goes back to their home plane to be eventually reborn, which usually results in a loss of power.
However, killing an outsider on their home plane completely obliterates them.


Doesn't an outsider summoned with a Calling effect or who accessed the material plane through some portal still regenerate on their home plane, and Summoning is either a generic copy of something or they just instantly teleport back?

Depends on edition and book within that edition. 3e is self contradictory, for example.

Mind Flayer's signature mind flaying attack is actually magical, not psionic.

So under a certain ruleset and against all common sense, the psionic version of Mind Blank will do nothing against one.

Even with magic-psionic transparency, any form of mind blank would not help against the mind blast:
The subject is protected from all devices, powers, and spells that detect, influence, or read emotions or thoughts.That spell like ability does not detect, influence or read the target's thoughts or emotions.
Some of the other "psionic" abilities (charm monster, detect thoughts, suggestion) will be stopped by psionic mind blank because they are spell-like abilities and those work like spells, which are stopped by psionic mind blank. This again is regardless of whether transparency is in effect.

Additionally Mind Blast is not even classified as a mind-affecting ability.

Mind Blast (Sp): This psionic attack is a cone 60 feet long. Anyone caught in this cone must succeed on a DC 17 Will save or be stunned for 3d4 rounds. Mind flayers often hunt using this power and then drag off one or two of their stunned victims to feed upon. The save DC is Charisma-based. This ability is the equivalent of a 4thlevel spell.

I disagree with that synopsis. As has come up I. Another thread recently, Roleplaying isn't voices and body language. That's acting. Groot is a Grade A amazing role player. Like Min-Max's player is.

Yeah. To me groot isnt the guy who doesnt like role playing. He's the guy who likes playing generally soft spoken, kind, loyal characters who occasionally like putting on a show.
Thats why we all like groot. He's the best kind of gamer.

Star Lord on the other hand strikes me as a consummate spaz who likes to do stuff just for the sake of doing it because he's bored. He's the leroy jenkins of the party. The Action Junkie.
Not my favorite kind of player, but occasionally useful for a party thats 'planning to stagnate' to have one.

(Only Groot, IMHO, is not so much the non-roleplayer, but that one minmaxed, very quirky character, that you're not entirely sure whether the stats or the concept came first, but that you're forced to like by the end, either because of the roleplaying, or because he's saved the whole party's lives half a dozen times.)
(And Drax is that one guy who forgets occasionally he's not in a solo game and that character death is a thing.)

Sure! The characters pictured are Black Frost (http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Frost) and Cirno (http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Cirno).

The image itself was taken from a doujin manga where Touhou character Rinnosuke Morichika is basically a problem-solving Demon Summoner like Raidou Kuzonoha the XIV.

Does that clarify things?

Hm. I don't think so, as the doujin was titled "Devil Summoner Morichika Rinnosuke vs the Frozen Fairy". I just took a quick look-through, and I see zero mention of Wriggle at all.

Though, "terrifying crossover insect" comprises quite a large number of things. While I have been looking through the demotivator thread archives here, there have been a number of Touhou posters. The only was I could say "terrifying insect" fits any demon in SMT, it would be Beelzebub.

The Property of Hate is a great comic set in a surrealistic world. (When it's surrealism, wierdness is a given.) The art is really nice, with equally interesting characters! I highly recommand you check out all the strips.

The demotivational shows a man with a TV for a head, a talking sock, a swan with ballerina shoes for her head and feet, as well as the loud trumpet monster. The swan and trumpet are in a lesbian marriage. On a side note, what does sex/gender even MEAN for these wierd creatures anyway?

As DM of Darkness points out: it's called an Aventail, it's attached to a helmet so you can actually turn your head in combat which is very important, and helmets are hot and uncomfortable if you're not expecting combat momentarily but are relatively easy to put on.

This argument is frankly rather contrived, if something is 'directing' the sword into heart due sliding on sloped iron, there's nothing to worry about. If something's stabs hard enough to rupture plate, it will anyway.

Inwards slopes obviously weren't likely practical in most applications, but people were making and wearing them anyway (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6KXq_n_-AMc/S6qUd9RsMGI/AAAAAAAAABQ/K7HR1s4IDqQ/s400/1.JPG).

Someone not liking boob plates from aesthetic whatever reason, it's perfectly understandable, but this 'realism' approach is not very good, since 95% of fantasy armors wouldn't be possible or wearable anyway.

This is not exactly true; actual armor which actually straps in place wouldn't cause that problem. I guarantee a good punch would do nothing more than move the armored torso back a bit – and shatter as you wedge your fragile metacarpals between two metal slopes. People get hurt falling forward on outward slopes fairly often too – the point over the groin here hits the ground and you've got a bloke lying jackknifed, face to floor and booty in the air!

Actual armor has padding underneath and is strapped down pretty efficiently. The force necessary to either punch through the armor without a pole axe and sniper precision, or to move the entire plate fast enough the stapling doesn't take the body with it, is sufficient that they'd be hurt regardless. You'd hit them like a truck.

There's a reason armor was referred to as a harness; it's a system of leather body straps with metal on the outside, just as much as it's fitted plate with leather on the inside.

At least some artists give the character a padded gambeson(sp?) or something to wear under it. Only time I can see the look working is when you've got some explanation for additional protection. Like how warcasters in the Iron Kingdoms wear armour that projects, basically, a force field around them; it absorbs the brunt of the impact so that less force is applied to the physical breatplate and I expect some warcasters have the practice to move and further reduce the force of the blow. The last bit would explain why Lt Allison Jakes has such a high Defence stat - fits with her backstory of duelist training as well; avoid taking the hit in the first place.

the fact that its a random number old and still does what normal swords do? no, not really. I mean sure its really old but that just makes me want to hang it up on a museum in display all the more because its in such good condition and use my modern medieval sword instead, because while the old sword may still be sharp and such, that doesn't guarantee it will ALWAYS be sharp or whatever, and its still a priceless antique no matter how you slice it while the new sword is one probably more fit to be actually used.

an old gun however, that does something different from my sword. that gives me an advantage others don't have. sure, 6000 year old still sharp sword is somewhat cool kinda in an abstract maybe sort of "huh must've been through a lot" way, but it doesn't add up to much in practical terms, and is basically just a meaningless status symbol if doesn't do anything different in the grand scheme of things. I mean:

"idiots, we've ALL got swords!"

I'm not sure you quite get what I'm saying here. There is no metal on the planet that can go 6,000 years not cared for without rusting, tarnishing, dulling or warping. Hell, Tolkien's Middle-Earth was only about 6500 years old to begin with. A sword as old as the planet that's still sharp is a really ****ing magic sword.

ok. yes and? its still just a sword. it still won't be a real game changer. it just stays a normal sword longer, useful if your an immortal I guess, but for a normal mortal that has a much impact as the shifting of the continents. much rather have a good revolver, as Han says:
