Damn character limit…

Damn it, I hate it when "Copy Image Location" doesn't work. Even when I just tried to change the url it replaced it with the last line I had copied today. Always have to check that manually if it works... *grumble grumble'

Ok, who's the last one, and shouldn't the first one be gigawatt? [If I identified him correctly.]
Also, alternative Street Name for Harry, Bolt.

Eitan
2015-09-11, 04:09 AM
The last one is from the Disney film Big Hero 6, pretty good actually though filled with super hero tropes and satire. :)
As for Dr. Emmett Brown, while gigawatt is the correct spelling and pronunciation, the actor mispronounced gigawatt as jigawatt. Hence the Street Name. :)

A re-post of someone else's, but I thought it was a good "PC Logic" joke and I've don't recall seeing it on this thread before.

I think the complaint is to players who think this
http://i.imgur.com/Ix50joi.png
is a legitimate way to play an assassin. It can be, in the right game/setting/system/GM. It just takes the complete combination to achieve this play style effectively.

I'd argue that the Craz Awesome is being done by people other than Dresden in that book.Like the Archangel giving his powers to a Mortal in order to save the life of that one mortal and the souls of a few of the badguy's minions.

Or Little Maggie Dresden commenting that she and Mouse "Slayerized" the monster under the bed and Harry honestly not knowing if she was serious or if it was a game of pretend.

Or literally everything Butters did in that book.

Just by beeing Harry.

He eventually gave the fragment of the denarian a fragment of his soul and thus Freewill, and her sacrifice, the first an only thing she'd ever done of her free will, was an act of such unconditional love that it literally created new life.

All Harry was trying to do was be not corrupted.

No, it was Harry. Molly veiled the party, sent illusions of the swordbearers into the crowd of Blood-slaves, then Dresden reached into the ley line, and used a much larger version of the spell from "Its My Birthday Too", and concentrated the gravity for a half-mile around into a circle about 300' across, crushing the vamps.

Also, I think you mean the Plane of Shadows(I forget what it was called in 4E, but Underdark is where the drow are.)

Fourth edition called it the Shadowfell (in following with their noun-noun name scheme), but the Underdark is, in some settings, a sentient and/or malevolent force in its own right. Think Great Old One, but not so distant. More Cthulhu than Yog-Sothoth. Spirits of the underdark could be them, genius loci, or various spirits whose souls were trapped in there by one of the above.

Yeah, nothing about that form or its clauses is Evil. Just morally neutral. Very Lawful, though. You must fit in the described order to get treatment; if you do, you will get it. Responsibility (and lack thereof) is clearly spelled out.

A LOT of modern American interaction is LN, because of how much the law reaches into our lives. This can be a good thing, as it can extend specific protections, but it can be a bad (or humorously bad) thing when it starts getting in the way. (Tort lawyers tend to be LE; they're why the LN types need so much rigor, lest what should be clear become deliberately muddied by "gotcha" loopholes.)

"I Don't Want Anime Fighters."

This is the one that really always gets to me. One, its derisive of anime. Two, as the accompanying image of Conan illustrates, its innacurate, particularly given the plethora of legends of great warriors performing feats that would make a Shonen Character blush.* Three, why on Earth should a Level 20 wizard get to rip apart reality by its seams while a level 20 fighter just gets to hit a guy with his sword with scaling numbers? It's just boring I feel, it's why I can never play a straight fighter in d20. I got to have something different to throw at people aside from a full attack every round.

*In one of the Irish legends of Cuchulain, it was said that he learned a feat wherein he would throw three spears in rapid succession, jump into the air after them, run atop each of the spears while they streaked through the air, before hopping off and impaling a man with a fourth spear in hand while the three he had thrown impaled their own targets with perfect accuracy.

Tell me which feats I need to pull that off and I will gladly play a fighter to level 20 to accomplish it.

There are definitely suffocation rules in D&D, but they are (poorly, see drown-healing) designed for gas and underwater hazard. If you can find a grappling rule that allows player to make enemies suffocate in D&D, good for you. But it's probably hidden somewhere in a feat tax, and there are so many of those that fighter bonus feats aren't enough. Meanwhile, more permissive systems like M&M or any rules-light game would allow anyone to try it practicaly for free.

One of my favorite essays on the topic: "On legendry" (http://prokopetz.tumblr.com/post/50703903337/on-legendry)

Lately, I’ve run across complaints that modern depictions of the Knights of the Round Table are too “anime” - giving them all sorts of goofy powers, and sending them on weird, over-the-top adventures.

Allow me to point out that the following are all actual things that appear in the older tales about the Knights:

Sir Kay is said to have had the power to grow to giant size, hold his breath for nine days, and radiate supernatural heat from his hands.
Sir Bedivere openly practiced sorcery, and suffered from an accordingly sinister reputation; on more than one occasion, he was saved from being hanged as a witch only by King Arthur’s testimonly to his good character.
Sir Galahad possessed supernatural strength and speed by virtue of his moral and sexual purity - making him a rare example of a male character with virginity-fueled super powers.
Sir Balin once wielded the Lance of Longinus, and blew up an entire kingdom with a single blow. He also fought an evil knight with the power of invisibility.
Sir Marrock was a freaking werewolf.

Conclusion: modern depictions of the Knights of the Round Table aren’t anime enough.

And that's not even mentioning 'anime' characters like Beowulf, Rama, and Gilgamesh... And not the one from Fate/Stay Night, either!

At least Pathfinder has a feat chain that allows the grappler to apply the 'helpless' status onto his victim. In a two turn (and after three successful grapple checks) you can coup-de-grace the guy with your unarmed strike or natural attack. So yes, an evil wrestler killed our paladin this way.

And now I have to read those.

Cluedrew
2016-02-11, 07:55 AM
This is just a personal thing but I rarely use the term anime now, instead just calling it "shows" or "cartoons". Similar with manga, there just "comics". The reason is the difference between Japan, European and North American comics is actually kind of small. Besides the reading direction.

So if anyone complains too anime... well can I get at-will flight? Superman isn't anime.

Anyways one of my favourite examples is Thor. When I found out that Thor was a comic-book super hero my reaction was "That makes sense." Because the ancient Norse tails of Thor are very, very "anime". In one of my favourites Thor and friends meet a frost giant, because they were taking shelter in the thumb compartment of the giant's mitten. Anyways the giant goes to sleep and Thor later tries to wake him up with his hammer. They blows have almost no effect, or Thor thinks they have no effect because the giant moves out of the way and back before anyone notices. Each blow clears (including the first little tap) clears out a glad among the trees with the shockwave.

Later, Thor is given a cup magically linked to the sea, and drinks until he lowers sea level. Only by a little bit mind you.

Zaydos
2016-02-11, 12:23 PM
You left out the best parts of the myth. Like the giant (not specified to be frost in any version I've read) isn't actually a giant, but a hill disguised by illusion and Thor doesn't just clear trees he leaves craters. He causes the tides by drinking the oceans. He lifts up a snake that wraps around the world 1 to 7 times. He wrestles Old Age itself, I mean he loses but still he puts up a fight.

But the best part, the best part is Thor's human* sidekick Thjalfi races someone's thoughts and almost wins. The guy almost outruns the physical personification of a wizard's thoughts. This ordinary human peasant suddenly just shows he can run at phenomenal speeds. This guy isn't a god, or a half-god, he is a random peasant Thor strong-armed into helping him for messing up Thor's goat.

Also apparently the ability to catch weapons and throw them back is a common trait of Norse heroes.

Technically speaking...since "Anime" is just Japanese (by way of French) for animation, yes he is. At least, the people who make anime would consider Popeye to be anime. So it sorta kinda counts.

The "Karin" manga had some interesting marginal notes where the author listed "South Park" as among her favourite anime, and advised the people doing an anime adaption of her own work that one of the characters should talk like Mr Garrison.
