CR/XP per party or per player?

Not wanting to get lost in the other CR thread I have, what I assume is a simple question.

The XP for an encounter as defined by CR or with the encounter creation system in the DM pdf, is that then supposed to be divided amongst the players? I.e. a divide by 4 and then divy it up?

I assume so, but the XP for adventuring by day days it's per player and threw me off.

Yes, divide by players. It's not directly said anyplace that I've seen, but it's inuitable from XP-per-encounter and encounters-per-day.
