So when reading the spell description it says "animal", which I'm extrapolating (with DM confirmation) that this means beasts only.

So what other options would you consider as mounts aside from the standard list? I'm playing a half-elf so large size minimum.

Mount another player. Preferably a Druid or shape shifting Wizard.

Nothing says 'class' like a Giant Eagle. It's CR 1 though. If your DM won't let you go beyond .5 CR like a Warhorse is, I'd say go for the Giant Goat. With proper armoring, it would be pretty sweet.

Beast - CR
Camel 0.125
Axe Beak 0.25
Constrictor Snake 0.25
Draft Horse 0.25
Elk 0.25
Giant Bat 0.25
Giant Lizard 0.25
Giant Owl 0.25
Riding Horse 0.25
Crocodile 0.5
Giant Goat 0.5
Giant Sea Horse 0.5
War Horse 0.5
Brown Bear 1
Dire Wolf 1
Giant Eagle 1
Giant Hyena 1
Giant Octopus 1
Giant Spider 1
Giant Toad 1
Giant Vulture 1
Lion 1
Tiger 1

Notwithstanding those Kinky Paladins mounting their female Druid companions...

Of the list presented, the most awesome choice is probably a Lion. Cause nothing says awesome like riding around on a Lion. I believe Torm has Lions associated with him as a deity, so there's that too.

Ah, yes. The Order of the Golden Lion. Those guys should certainly be riding around on Lions. Preferably Golden ones :P

That is something you need to work out with your DM. Most DMs are going to limit this to large sized animals whose combat abilities are not insanely more powerful than a warhorse. For small-sized characters, medium-sized animals are possible.

* Zebra, pony, horse, camel
* Elk, moose, deer, antelope
* Dog, wolf
* Boar, pig, ram, big horn sheep
* Black bear
* Yak, bison, water buffalo
* Panther, leopard
* Dire badger, wolverine
* Giant spider, scorpion, ant, beetle
* Dolphin, sea turtle, seal, sea lion, reef shark

As higher levels, your DM might allow larger, flying, and/or move powerful animals
* Lions, tigers,
* Dire wolf, dire wolverine
* Unicorn
* Brown, grizzle, polar bear
* Crocodile
* Rhino, elephant, woolly rhino, mastadon
* Giant eagle, hypogriff, pegasus
* Killer whale, great white shark, narwhale

It depends upon the character, alignment, race, etc. Some of these would need to wait for the Monster Manual or for the DM to make up the appropriate statistics.

You know since "animal" is not an official type (even the type entry just puts "ordinary animals" under beasts) the DM can basically put anything they want in there.

So I say try a wyvern or some kind of drake and get yourself Toothless.

You should be ashamed of yourself for suggesting this.... why does it half to be a female Druid! :smalltongue:

Because in Forgotten Realms, Torm has a thing for Chauntea, as I recall. Ya know. Chanutea, the Druid Goddess? :P
