Well done. My players may soon regret your diligence.

Also, pretty similar to sharktooth staff, though reach is nice.

Where is this?

WoTC: Bone Devil Excerpt (https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/excerpt-bone-devil). Link goes to the article, here's the pdf (http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/MM_BoneDevil.pdf).

Edit: The Hooked Polearm (and 2d12 damage) is indeed listed for a Large creature.

As far as I can tell it's also not a 3.5 related thing? From what I remember of it, this looks like 4e, rather than 3.5.

That's 5th Edition, you can tell because it has Passive Perception.

Sorry, no hooked polearms for 3.5!

Correction: "If the target is a Huge or smaller creature..." is the actual text. I don't ever want to see one of these polearms in a game, on either side.

Also, that is a crazy-good set of saves, even without the Magic Resistance!

It's not even a grapple attempt. If it hits you, you're grappled. Full stop.

It's a pretty cool boss weapon, but I'm pretty sure it's not intended for player use.

Neither was that Greathorn minotaur war hammer or them resin weapons in 3.5 but that didn't stop players.

I'd say if the weapon were from a size-similar creature, such as medium or small for PCs, they could wield it assuming they stole it off him alive or dead.

Hi!

I have two questions:

(1) The Variant rule pretty much means that you replace multiattack and claw options with the new multiattack and hooked polearm options, while the sting stays, right?

(2) If you hook someone you cannot use the polearm on another target. Does it mean he can still use it to attack the same creature that is grappled by using the polearm?

Thanks!

I'd say yes on both counts. Jiggle that polearm around a bit, give 'em some pain!

Hm... I could actually see a druid who killed one of these keep the polearm, then wreck havoc on all things living the next time he changes into a giant ape.

I don't have the Monster Manual yet, but I'm pretty sure that 5E has not adopted the A = A universal design concept from 3.0/3.5. There isn't a consistent set of internal physics; size, weapons rules, armor rules, race rules, etc. The rules in the Players Handbook are for Players. The rules in the Monster Manual are for monsters.

Perhaps in the hands of devils, the polearm acts slightly alive. For normal folks (including tiefling!), it won't do the grabbing thing.
