Which class combo would suit this character? (regardless of ANY optimization)

Said character is a mountain bound cattle farmer and hunter forced into service by a war threat. He comes from the cold mountains of what is basically Scandinavia in our setting. He round up all the neighbors for a small militia to delay enemy scouts and movement until they could flee...

Personal preferences:
- No spells
- some sort of bow/ranged combat
- some skills to roll on (Survival, Sneak and Perception being the most important ones)

Rogue? Ranger? Barbarian? Weird Fighter mix? Slayer?
